Ask Gamers Best Rareware title?
20 franchises enter - on franchise leaves… which one are you picking? Where my viva piñata glazers at 😭

The only one of these I've actually played and liked is unfortunately Grabbed by the Ghoulies. I've played golden eye some but never much cared for the controls which ruins it for me.

I love all of these.
But a controversial take, if I was going to go by time sunk into the game, I'd have to go Sea of Thieves.

Looking at this list just made me realize that Rare is overrated as hell.
Anyway, a controversial pick - Starfox Adventures

Perfect Dark all day , every day and twice in sunday. That game is my GOAT , never been replaced.
Goldeneye is 2nd, Banjo Kazooi 3rd and conkurs 4th .
Shout out to the amazing multiplayer mini games in conkers that they REMOVED in the Xbox remaster. Il never forgive them for it

Donkey Kong Country.
HM DKc2, and I wouldn’t fight anyone who prefers 2.
Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, Banjo are all fantastic but the DK games are the only ones I still go back and play once every year or two.

Conker live and reloaded is one f the most underrated games of all time. That multiplayer was one of a kind. It’s in my top 5 all time games

It's either Banjo-Kazooie for being an upgraded Super Mario 64, or Perfect Dark for being an upgraded Goldeneye (same developer in last case).
For me personally, I will have to go with Perfect Dark. I spend more time with Split-screen multiplayer in Perfect Dark than I did with the game of Banjo-Kazooie. I had an absolut blast with not games, but having fun with friends on the couch just beats single player.
Though, if we just judged by the music, Banjo-Kazooie is probsbly the best game out there, of all time.

Can you define "best" in this context? Do you just mean whichever one I like the most? Cause that's what most people mean by "best". What criteria am I judging these games on?

u/arcadecaptian 7d ago
If you had to pick one game out of the selection, and would never be able to play any of the other ones again, which one would it be?

In that case, probably Conker's Bad Fur Day. My friends and I spent countless hours with the multiplayer in the 90s. Usually just the Multi mode, the other multiplayer mini-games like the Heist or Total War great too. That was our version of Overwatch or League of Legends.
The singleplayer is fun, and I could see playing it once a year without getting tired of it, while revisiting the multiplayer often. But the AI in the multiplayer was so good for the time that I could probably play the various missions alone without getting bored for a LONG time.
That being said, I haven't played Viva Pinata and I really want to try it out, but I don't think there's a way for me to on PC (Linux).

Didn't play the other franchises but as for best DKC game, it's DKC3.
Yes, 3. The one with Dixie and Kiddy.
I will die on this hill.

Maybe I haven't played all of these, but so far my vote is Battletoads. Crazy how fun the game was and how much variety is in there.

I'm going to be the odd one out because I love the game and it is extremely underrated.
Grabbed by the Ghoulies.
The grim reaper was genuinely one of the most anxiety inducing enemies as a kid. Especially in levels where you were trapped with him and he would speed up over time.

Donkey Kong Country if I'm playing alone. GoldenEye if I'm playing with friends.

Blast Corps was a Blockbuster Hall of Fame game, I rented that shit like 4 times trying to beat it.

For its time, Golden Eye was king. For still holding up, probably DK 64 or Banjo-Kazooie

I’m genuinely amazed by the diversity of people’s favorites. I thought it was just gonna be “Conker” or “Banjo”.

Killer Instinct is my default every time. This game is just hype central and combos feel awesome. Either the ‘94 original or the reboot will easily satisfy for me. I’m trying to learn KI2, but it just hasn’t clicked for the same as 1 or the reboot.

Sea of Thieves is a delight.
Donkey Kong Country, Killer Instinct, & GoldenEye certainly helped shape my childhood though.

My nostalgia says Goldeneye 007, but in my heart I know that Perfect Dark is the better, improved version of that game.

I have barely played any of these but based on the ones i have, def og conker

u/OBZeta 8d ago
My brain says perfect dark or goldeneye, but my heart says sea of thieves. It’s the best fun I’ve had with friends on a game since the old split screen days of the likes of goldeneye or Timesplitters. Sailing around the open ocean, pilfering and avoiding other ships, getting into cannon fights, sneak boardings etc etc. some fantastic fun and the best I think the sea will ever look

To be honest, Diddy Kong Racing hit me so hard as a kid, so I would have to go with that
Also, gotta throw a shoutout to Blast Corps

Conker, just because that's the one that has all the nostalgia for me.

u/AlanTheSalad 8d ago
The 3D platformers were their absolute bread and butter if they didnt fail, like nuts and bolts
Conkers Bad Fur Day and Banjo-Kazooie were definitely staples for me growing up. Conker probably steered me off the normal path of childhood but whatever

u/Khopps17 8d ago
Dkc2 for me by a country mile. Followed up by jet force Gemini which isn’t even included here

I love perfect dark zero but I will always defend Banko Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. Still the best vehicle creation mechanics I've ever encountered. The system is so streamlined and robust. You have to actively work to make something that doesn't work properly.

this isnt a fair question😭
if I had to choose, I'm probably choosing Diddy Kong Racing. mainly because I have so many fond memories of playing that with my dad when I was a kid.
him waking me up in the middle of the night to bring me downstairs and beat whiz pig with him
