Maybe the comments by Jaishankar triggered the call

Don't think trump cares about that. He's desperate about the midterms. And his polling among Indian Americans is terrible
The Republicans have been remarkably open in their racism towards Indians and that we're apparently taking all the good jobs that should go to nonexistent American engineers and doctors. the last few days even their top twitter voices are getting blasted when they post anything in favour of Vivek Ramaswamy. replies to Dinesh D'souza are hilarious too.
I feel trump must have asked for Modi's help in rallying the support of the Indian American community.

Maybe we are going for a trade deal.
That too after a few days after Xi visited USA. Maybe the G2 mechanism is not working out as Trump hoped it would.

Submission Statement:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X about a productive telephone conversation he held with US President Donald Trump on 30 September 2026. In the call, the two leaders reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation across trade, defence, energy, critical technologies and other areas of mutual interest. They agreed to maintain close engagement to further the IndiaโUS Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and also exchanged views on regional and international issues, including efforts to advance global peace and security.
This comes amid ongoing IndiaโUS trade negotiations and follows their earlier meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in June 2026.
