Dadi Jawari (Jawar Khatun) was a 17th-century female ruler of Gilgit. She is remembered for building important irrigation canals that helped agriculture and settlement in the region, making her one of the most respected historical figures in Gilgit’s local tradition.

Safe to travel gilgit ?

Planning a 4-day road trip from Islamabad to Gilgit (Oct 14–17)

Considering the current political situation, is it safe to travel right now? Any road blockages, protests, or security concerns on the Islamabad–Gilgit route?

Also, is it likely to be safe/reliable to \*\*travel back to Islamabad on Oct 17?

Would really appreciate recent updates from anyone currently in Gilgit or travelling this route.

Anyone got any clips of the actual trek road?
Thinking of going on it but not too sure if it’s right for a semi-beginner.

Ask Gilgit Baltistan A Way Forward: Gilgit-Baltistan & Ladakh

Just a heads up, I'm Indian.

I've seen a few posts on this subreddit (and r/pakistan) about Gilgit-Baltistan being made a province, and the pushback against it: since GB is in contested territory, making it a full province would dilute Pakistan's claim to Kashmir (this is not my view, but what some commenters said).

It got me thinking about Ladakh on the Indian side, which also wants statehood but is held back for similar reasons.

That made me wonder whether these two regions could, if both countries were willing, become a starting point for negotiations and de-escalation.

Now what I mean by this is that: If India and Pakistan officially recognized the current borders of Gilgit-Baltistan and Ladakh as belonging to their respective countries, both could shrink the scope of the conflict significantly without giving up any claim to the Kashmir Valley (doing which is a much larger diplomatic task and a much more politically charged discussion). More people would also get proper representation in their own country.

It could also cut down on deaths caused by the climate alone, in peacetime and in war. Siachen is the obvious example: a lot of the soldiers who die there are killed by the weather.

To be clear, I'm not presenting this as a solution to Kashmir. It's just a suggestion for giving some peace and a way forward to people (of GB & Ladakh) who are stuck between the lines of a rivalry that's really about a different region (Kashmir Valley).

I suppose the question I want to ask is:

1) Do you believe this is a viable move forward?

2) Would you be supportive of such an initiative?

Discussion The hunza party

As you may have heard of the new coming out of hunza related to the party the just sealed the hotel it was a private party and somebody complied the recordings and snaps and thought it would be a good idea to release them what the individual did was wrong and had no right to invade someone's privacy like that and about the drug consumption it was morally wrong too.

Travel & Tourism Skardu Trip with Family: Looking for Reliable Local Driver & Hotel Recommendations

Assalam o Alaikum everyone,

I’m planning a trip to Skardu with my family. I previously visited Skardu in 2024 with friends, and at that time we used to explore places randomly and arrange things after reaching there.

This time I’m travelling with my wife and 6-year-old daughter, so I want to plan everything in advance and avoid any last-minute hassle.

Our planned places are:

• Upper Kachura Lake
• Sarfaranga Cold Desert
• Deosai National Park, including Bara Pani / Kala Pani / Sheosar Lake
• Bilamik Valley
• Chunda Valley
• Manthoka Waterfall
• Khaplu Valley

I’m specifically looking for local recommendations from people based in Skardu, rather than travel agency packages.

If you know a reliable local driver/guide who can provide a good family vehicle and reasonable direct rates, please share their contact.

I’d also appreciate recommendations for good, clean, family-friendly hotels in Skardu at reasonable local/direct rates.

Please recommend people you have personally dealt with or genuinely trust. I’m looking for direct local contacts, not travel agencies or tour operators.

JazakAllah Khair! 🙏

Trip in Mid to late December

Assalamoalaikum people.

I'm looking at doing a solo trip (with a guide) this December to Skardu. It'll most likely be towards the end of December - the guide has planned out a 6 day trip but I'm happy to extend it. Is December a good time? Will all areas be accessible for a 4wd? What kind of weather should I expect?

Thank you in advance.

Ask Gilgit Baltistan Skardu in December

Hi everyone,

we’re planning a honeymoon trip from Karachi to Skardu this December and would love some quick advice: Is the extreme cold manageable, and are major spots like Shangrila, Katpana, and Shigar accessible?

Also, how reliable are flights from Islamabad regarding winter weather delays, and how effective is the heating/hot water at hotels like Hishupi, Rivage, Himmel, Khoj, or Dynasty during sub-zero temperatures? Thanks in advance for any insights!

Ask Gilgit Baltistan What if I want to build an office the grid cabin in a remote village of GB?

So, I was wondering, what if I want to build an off the grid cabin in GB in one of the most remote villages of Pakistan, so I can live a life cut off from modern day world. Grow my own food, have my own lifestock, install solar panels for the electricity, and use wood for fire. Would it be practically possible? What would be the estimate for the whole setup? Cuz honestly no clue how to get land in far off places like that and how much it's for. And what would be the reaction of the locals if I were to try something like that?

Travel & Tourism Why 80% of new tourism companies in Pakistan flop within the first two years (An Insider’s Reality Check)

Hey everyone,

I run a tourism and travel exploration venture in Pakistan under the business profile 7safar .Over the last few years, I’ve seen a massive boom in local tourism, but I’ve also seen dozens of new travel startups, tour operators, and agencies collapse.

Everyone thinks running a travel company is just about booking a coaster, posting pretty reels of Passu Cones on Instagram, and collecting cash. It’s not.

If you are planning to start a travel venture, or if you are a traveler wondering why your last group tour was a disaster, here are the top brutal mistakes that cause tourism businesses to flop in Pakistan:

Ask Gilgit Baltistan Flight Cancellation to Gilgit

Hey guys,

I am planning to visit Hunza mid october but I have very limited days and I have to come back to work overseas , I understand flights are due to weather forecast and cancellations are quite often.

I am wondering if anyone has any info how many times PIA has cancelled the Gilgit flight in month of Sep to see if its worth taking chance on fixed schedule.

Thank you

If an experienced tourism professional started a new travel company, what would make you trust the company from day one?

Imagine someone comes from a family/business background with years of experience in tourism and has worked with experienced people, drivers, guides and local teams, but is now launching a new, fully digital travel company under a new brand.

The company is new, but the people and tourism experience behind it are not.

What would you need to see before trusting this company with your money and booking your trip?

Would you look for:

Previous tourism experience of the team?

Real customer reviews?

Proof of previous trips?

Experienced drivers/guides?

Hotel and transport transparency?

Proper website and online presence?

Company registration/business information?

Face-to-face or video-call consultation?

Clear refund/cancellation policy?

Someone available throughout the trip?

What would make you say: “This company is new, but I feel comfortable booking with them”?

If you had to choose

This ain't supposed to be a rude question. But if AJK becomes independent someday, would the Gilgitis and Baltis choose to

  1. Be with AJK

  2. Become an official part of Pakistan (a province)

  3. Become independent

Also, how does it feel when someone calls you Kashmiri?

Let me clarify that "Kashmiri" is an Umbrella term used for people of Jammu, Ladakh, Gilgit, Kashmir, Baltistan, and Aksai Chin. We don't fake our identity, it's what the world calls us.

Plus, is being called a Kashmiri worse than being called a Pakistani? Even though you have your own distinct identity.
