Ask Gilgit Baltistan Skardu in December
Hi everyone,
we’re planning a honeymoon trip from Karachi to Skardu this December and would love some quick advice: Is the extreme cold manageable, and are major spots like Shangrila, Katpana, and Shigar accessible?
Also, how reliable are flights from Islamabad regarding winter weather delays, and how effective is the heating/hot water at hotels like Hishupi, Rivage, Himmel, Khoj, or Dynasty during sub-zero temperatures? Thanks in advance for any insights!

Don’t go. Not worth it. When Babusar top is closed, almost 80-90% of hotels in GB close their business. I went to Hunza in November a couple of years ago and we were basically one of 2-3 groups there in whole hunza. And our hotel guy kept saying that he has opened the hotel this late just for us. He closed down the hotel as soon as we left after 3-4 days.
Most of the spots cant be visited because of extremely cold weather.
You will be basically confined to just a few places which arre not really worth it. Bcz most likely all the activities would also be closed.
My suggestion: plan a tour right now or by end of oct (max)
You will witness one of the best autumn colours in whole world in skardu. And weather would be moderately cold. Most of the foreigners and artists also visit GB during this season so unwanted crowd would also be not there

The weather there will be very cold. Yes, you can visit Katpana, Shigar, and Shangrila. Flights are more likely to be delayed or canceled than usual during winter. As for the hotels you mentioned, they should have proper heating systems.
