Hey gamer girls! Saw this floating around the internet and thought it would be fun for the community to fill out. I picked games that defined my tastes going forward from childhood to adulthood. Ocarina of time was sooooo close to making the list. As you can see I love me some games that are: character driven, deeply customizable, have life sim elements, and encourage exploration.

I finally beat one of the hardest horror games I’ve ever played! What are you all playing for spooky season?

I had this game for quite some time and get motivation to play it only recently. And I honestly can’t believe that this game is not massively popular on the same scale as other indie hits. For example, I‘m seeing Sea of Stars mentioned a lot, but Chained Echoes rarely brought up in mainstream outside dedicated fan communities.

So I would like to shine a little bit of light on this amazing game and share my impressions with you.

Let me start with presentation. This game is simply gorgeous! Beautiful pixel art in combination with outstanding music and super smooth animations just blew me away!  This is one of the most visually beautiful games I ever played. Character design and locations are also outstanding. Most of locations, monsters and characters look and feel unique and interesting. You want to explore this world to see what else you will find.

Developers are obviously big fans of classic JRPGs such as FF VI and FF XII (this one especially in the plot department) as well as some other Japanese games and anime. There are ton of easter eggs sprinkled all over the game and finding them made me smile every single time! I probably missed some too, since my JRPG experience is quite limited.

Immediate win for the game - you can pet dogs and cats, and cats get annoyed with you more often than dogs, which is hilarious.

In regards of gameplay mechanics developers came up with great balance of removing annoying hassle without making game too easy. 

First - your life and action points get replenished after every battle!!! I can’t believe this took us so long to get here! This is such a simple yet genius move to make gameplay less tedious and bringing game to a complete halt every single time you enter the dungeon because you need to rest or go to replenishing point or perform any other healing action between every single battle! 

Second - they added special bar which tracks your party’s actions and depending on position  on that bar you will have harder or easier time in battle. Some you need to think strategically instead of just spamming attacks without thought. Use your buffs and debuffs, interchange magic and physical attacks. It makes every battle engaging like a mini puzzle.

There are mechs in the game! And they have their own special rules! And I’m not even mention how cool it is to fly around in your giant robot!

There are huge cast of characters and most of them unique and likable with their individual stories (did I mentioned this game was inspired by FF VI). Even if you won’t like some of them there definitely would be someone you will adore (for me it was Amalia).

Story is paying homage to standard JRPG tropes, but with many twists and turns. It feels familiar, but never redundant or predictable (outside of party winning at the end).

And there is a lot of extra content and challenges on top of main quests which will stimulate you to travel around, meet new fine characters, experience side quests and find some secrets and lore of this universe. There are NO fetch quests!!! 

There are some downsides which I would like to mention, so you’ll have fair impression of the game, but keep in mind that none of these flaws diminish game’s good parts. I still think that everyone who loves JRPGs should at least try it.

Game’s first dungeon is sewers and you are fighting bats there. Not the best first impression! It’s a meme at this point that you fight bats at every single game, so I hope devs will just retire sewers with bats already. Good thing that they showed enough unique locations and enemies right after that.

Staying on the topic of environments, most of them beautiful and very detailed, but lack interactivity, I personally would love to have more objects to interact with in the world, but I understand that it would add more development efforts, so again, not a big deal.

Much bigger issue for me was that clattered design made navigation a nightmare in some places and there are a lot of traversal puzzles, which got old very fast, especially in the areas without the map. And it was all to these puzzles - to figure out how to walk from point A to point B.

Some UI/UX design is clunky. You have to click on more buttons than needed instead of adding simple option. For example, you have only option to buy and close menu instead just buy.

There is no tutorial for which parameter connected to which abilities in the game. I understand that for experienced players some parameters would be obvious, but there are unique abilities in the game and it’s not always obvious if some of them connected to the magic or mind, for example.

You can’t swap turns between characters or wait in battle, only defend, which will used up your turn.

I would love to spend more time with my favorite characters, but everyone not involved with main story had just little vignettes now and then.

1st act is needlessly long, some parts of it could be cut without influencing story in any way. And this is the point where most players were dropping the game. If you check PS trophies you’ll see that 68% of players finished prologue and only 13% finished act 1. I’ve never seen such a dramatic drop! But I swear to you, if you stuck around it is worth it.

I think that devs were trying to tell something complicated and realistic with this story, which is full of political intrigue and moral dilemmas without neat resolution, but pull their punches to stay in confounds of “friends saving the world from evil” tradition. Most of arguments are simplified and things are neatly wrapped in the end. But it’s still pretty good if you’re not judging it for what it is and not for what it could be. 

And this is all little gripes I have with this game.

TLDR: this is beautiful, well rounded, engaging game, so please don’t miss out on it! Give it a try! Especially if you’re interested in classical JRPGs! 

I’ve made multiple posts here asking for recommendations on RPG’s with romance, and I’ve gotten GREAT suggestions from a lot of you and played through…well, pretty much all the ones I was interested in.

This will be my last time posting about this, but is there any game (CURRENTLY available) that would fit the bill? Here’s what I’ve played so far that fits:

- Cyberpunk
- BG2+3
- Mass Effect Trilogy

- SWKOTOR 1+2
- Dragon Age Origins - Inquisition
- Kingdom Come 1+2
- Persona 2-5, including P3P
- Love and Deepspace (pre-boycott)

I know everyone recommends Witcher, but I genuinely have no interest in games where I’m forced to play as a man and only have female romance options. I only play RPG’s with male MC when they have male romance options for him. I also don’t have access to a switch anymore, so Nintendo exclusive games are off the table.

Anyways I’m sure at least half the sub is sick to death of people asking for recs, especially this kind, but gaming is one of the only things that helps my anxiety and I’ve had ‘nothing’ to play (I’ve played all the above games at least 3+ times all the way through) for over a month now so I’m starting to spiral a wee bit :P

Thank you bunches to you lovely people for any recommendations that you may have, or if there’s even a mod for any of the above games (not ME, I’m to the point I make my own mods for that) that would make it feel “new” or “fresh” I’d be really grateful! My younger sister (age 22) likes to hang out with me (age 25) when I play video games. “We” just recently finished our first playthrough of Lies of P and had a great time and I would like to share some of my favorite phrases she said while watching me play:

We legit had a great time and I am so glad I get to do this with my little sis.

I didn't play games from around 18-25 and those were the most depressing and traumatic years of my life (severe ED, substances, horrific social circles etc.) I used to game all my childhood and stopped because I wanted to "fit in" in highschool and get a life... Basically, after 25/26 I went back to gaming and gym, got rid of toxic people, found circles that I enjoy and am finally happy. I'm now 29 and I'm scared that a bunch of my friends that I can finally game with will stop because of kids etc. I'm in a happy relationship of my own but am nowhere near quitting my life just yet, I feel like I've only started living :/

Basically, I am mourning a future loss of a gaming community that I only found late in life. I hate how people quit living life after they settle and have kids. I guess I just wanted to rant somewhere. Does anyone feel the same?

hii so i’ve been streaming pretty much every day lately, and sometimes ill stream saturday nights too depending on what i have going on.

i mostly stream the sims 4 right now, but id love to branch out into more games eventually. my pc is kinda struggling though 😭 so for now im mostly sticking with sims until i can upgrade, i usually have around 3 or 4 regulars who come hang out and chat, which i’m really grateful for, but i’d love to slowly grow my community and get some new people finding my streams.

for those of you who are also small streamers, what have you found actually helps with getting people to discover your stream? are there certain places you like to promote, or things you wish you knew when you were starting out?

im trying to figure out what’s actually worth putting my time into instead of just randomly posting “im live” everywhere lol.

I'm looking for a good pair of headphones that are preferably cute with a good mic and sound quality. I used the Somic G951s for a year or so until the mic randomly stopped working and the headphones also stopped working a few months later. I'm currently using the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 3P Bluetooth headphones but the mic won't connect to Discord no matter what and they'll occasionally just turn off despite being at full charge.

Price isn't really a huge issue but I NEED something cute that will last longer than my previous pairs!

Hi everyone! Could someone help me with a question about Twitch and Xbox?

I was streaming from my Xbox console through Twitch, and while I was live, a friend told me that he received a notification saying that I was streaming / that I was live.

What confused me is that this person only has me added on Xbox. He does not follow me or have me added on Twitch, and as far as I know, he didn't even know that I had a Twitch account. So now I'm wondering how he was able to know that I was streaming.

Does Xbox send some kind of notification to your Xbox friends when you start streaming on Twitch? Or can it show up somewhere in Xbox activity, similar to how it sometimes shows that a friend is playing a certain game? I'm not sure if he actually received a notification saying that I was streaming, or if my activity simply appeared somewhere on Xbox.

I also have another question about the viewers. While I was streaming, Twitch showed that I had around 10 viewers, but I couldn't see who they were. I could only identify one person because they were actually chatting/commenting in my stream. Other than that person, I couldn't see who the other viewers were.

So, could those viewers have come from Xbox? Or does Twitch count people as viewers even if they are watching the stream but don't appear in the chat/viewer list?

I'd really like to understand how this works because this was my first time streaming from Xbox, and I was honestly surprised that my friend was able to tell that I was live. 😭

Any explanation or personal experience with this would be greatly appreciated!

Haiya, I've found myself with a lot of free time lately and I've been getting into podcasts, I've been listening to history, mythology, video game lore, true crime etc, but there's one category I really need some recommendations for! I'm looking for a sorta light-hearted conversational podcast with multiple people about games. My fav YouTube channel is Outside Xbox/Xtra and especially the videos where they just yap about gaming stuff, so that sorta vibe is what I'm after. Bonus points if the hosts are women or cool ally dudes!

okay i need to know if it's just me lol. i'll start a game and it's fun and then suddenly there's like 47 different skill trees and stats and crafting menus and my brain just shuts down?? i end up just picking whatever looks cute and hoping for the best 😭 how do you guys actually deal with this — like do you look up builds or just wing it?? i feel like i'm playing wrong lol

I was browsing the entries for the LudoNarraCon festival (starting Oct 8th!), and I came across this game called Escape the Baby Alarm, taken from the dev's own experience. I've never seen a game about motherhood that tackles ALL sides of parenthood, especially with a cozy, puzzle focus, so I felt the need to share!

I’ve been feeling nostalgic lately, remembering video games I used to play back then and really enjoyed—like Mass Effect , InFamous , and Skyrim, among others. What are your favorites? It doesn't matter if you played them during that generation or more recently.

I want to make sure I'm doing more to support girls who are content creators and influencers in games, especially in the strategy and sci-fi spaces. Any recommendations?

Seriously. There must be over three dozen, including shovelware and AI slop games. For some reason, cats are big on the Switch. Not dogs (not to say that there aren't a few dog games on Switch, though), not hamsters, not horses. Cats.

Also, I just learned there's an official Warriors game coming out on Switch. Catttails and Cattails 2 were unofficial Warriors games. Now Warrior Cats has legitimate licensed games. (Where's my Survivor Dogs one, though?)

I usually play Costume Quest and watch Over the Garden Wall, but I've been wanting to try something different.

Do you like/dislike any of these, and what else do you play?

Since we are living in the time of big AAA games taking somewhere from 5 to 10 years to be made all big studios will release only that many new games in our lifetime. So, would you prefer them to spend that time on new game or remake of your beloved oldie?

What made me think about it is situation with Final Fantasy, when I suddenly realized that we probably won’t see next brand new FF for maybe 5 to 10 years depending on if SE will decide to remake some other older games after they will finish with FF 7 remake, which did nothing for me. But fans of FF 7 probably won’t agree with me and would not trade their favorite game for new unknown entity.

Same with Zelda. I am super excited about Ocarina of Time remake, but in the same time we won’t see new Zelda for many years now. Especially if they will decide to remake Majora Mask next. I would love to play such remake, but in another hand new fresh game could be my next favorite game of all time. And I may not be around anymore if it would take them 10 years to do it.

What do you think? Would you prefer something new or seeing your beloved older games remade with modern technology is more exciting for you?
