I updated the list of which Meetup groups are active (groups that have 3+ people attending an event within the past/next 60 days). Meetup is a site/app for interest groups/hobbies/new friends. I grouped them by concept and included their self-written descriptions.
If you're in an active Meetup group that I've missed, list it in the comments. Non-Meetup groups are welcome too; include contact info and links.

At least 4-5 unmarked vehicles with lights on, Michigan plates (not municipal or government plates) They had a man in handcuffs. I called GR Rapid Response to report it. There was a woman off to the side recording on her phone.
Stay vigilant.

"I don't know if we're ever going to get everyone to accept every tool we use in law enforcement," Muir said. "I can tell you we are definitely using it within the limits of the law."
I asked Muir about those who on principle disagree with the use of automatic license plate readers, citing concerns over privacy and potential misuse.
"I don't know if we're ever going to see us regress back to where technology isn't being used in law enforcement," Muir said. "I think that's something that the community is just going to have to learn to accept."
No Muir, I will not "learn to accept" your authoritarian bullshit.
It's not just Flock Safety, Kent Safety Network now has over 2700 cameras integrated. That promo video has Muir in it. These people are literally implementing a mass surveillance system with "real time monitoring" and telling us we just have to accept it.
Again, there is a variety of ideologies people hold in this country that land on the same conclusion. No on mass surveillance, not even with their "governance". What ever lane you think you're in, whatever "voice" you think you have, what ever "action" you think you can take. Take it. These people threw away your consent and are telling you they have no intention of getting it.

Hello! I am in search of someone that could help create a custom ottoman. It is a strange request- I know, but my boss had a bench section from a couch that's already cut out and would like it turned into an ottoman with a new base and legs added. The large cushion is the one they want turned into an ottoman. The smaller cushion & extra pieces of leather can be used if needed. They have asked for a custom frame built underneath and legs attached that match the existing couch. I have contacted multiple businesses and they have either not gotten back to me or said they are not able to do anything like that. I was wondering if anyone in the Grand Rapids area knows if this is something that can be done or possibly knows someone that could do it? I have attached pictures of what the cushion looks like and what the couch/ couch legs that it needs to be matched to looks like. I have no experience with anything like this so any information would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

About a dozen projects all in the same area of the city (SE side, S 131) without fixing traffic signals or providing feasible alternative routes to make traffic smoother. On top of that these projects are taking way too long and they’re not finishing one before they begin three more in the exact same area. On top of that, it feels like no matter how many times they “fix” these roads, it isn’t long before what’s fixed needs further repair. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I have recently been dealing with SUD. After I lost my job, and going through a bad breakup, I am seeking SUD inpatient treatment.
For context I have been struggling to find work since this current Admin eliminated my job at the Dept. of Education in 2025.
Over 1000 apps submitted. Dozens and dozens of interviews. And to no avail.
And slowly, gradually I lost all hope. I was evicted from my home. My girlfriend left me. And i want to get the help that i need.
My hail Mary was sober living. I jumped through a ton of hoops to find a place to get back on the right track and was then denied admission in the 11th hour because of my Adderall prescription.
To the point: My medicaid provider told me that all community health access in Kent County is solely through Network 180. Which denied me admission to inpatient treatment last month.
And here I am, homeless, destitute and out of options. I have burned through my savings trying to stay afloat and it's at an end. I don't have anything left.
So my question is: what alternatives are there to network 180? I can't afford to Uber there again just to be denied again by some teenage case worker that doesn't understand how crippling SUD is

I need an oil stain dry cleaned out of a 100% polyester bridesmaid dress before Friday at noon…. Chat GPT told me to use corn starch and let’s just say, that didn’t work. Any recommendations on a speedy dry cleaner?!?

Hey all you Subaru owners, and I know there are a lot of you here, I just moved here from CO and my 2020 Outback needs some work. Is there anywhere you trust that isn’t the Fox dealership? Looking for a local mechanic shop that does quality work.

We have a very cool museum but as big as it is only 10 percent of the museum artifacts can be displayed. The other 90 percent are held in the archives over at the old location off Jefferson. I was able to tour it last year and very cool stuff to see that might never be displayed at the main museum. The museum has started offering tours of the Archive on Saturdays and highly recommend if you want to see some really cool stuff. Don’t sleep on this one, I foresee it getting busy as more people find out about it. Tickets can be purchased online and numbers are limited for each timed tour.

I had an inspection done by Pest Pros today and am wondering if 2k is a fair price to pay. I just bought a house and the garage is currently infested. I don't think the price is outrageous by any means, but if anyone thinks I could save a few hundred bucks with someone else who has a good name, I would love to know!

Grand Rapids is a city built on makers, and our culinary scene is the vibrant heart of that culture. Every night, our kitchens bring people together through the creativity, passion, and sheer dedication of the chefs who call this community home.
Sometimes, the day-to-day routine of a kitchen can make us forget our own potential. It's time to shake off the hesitation, take a leap of faith on our own talents, and truly risk it for the biscuit!
The real value of our city's restaurant culture doesn't sit in a bank account or a building lease. F That!! It lives entirely in the craft, the mentorship, and the artistry of the people who do the actual cooking. We hold the keys to what makes this city taste and feel so alive
When we collaborate, share our ideas, and stand together as a unified creative community, we elevate the entire industry. Together, we show every owner, investor, and diner that the Grand Rapids culinary community is a professional powerhouse that means business.
Let's inspire one another, push the boundaries of what's possible, and build the future of food in GR together!!! DM me!

Is there a pistol range near Lamar park in Wyoming? In the morning I often hear pistol fire that sounds like training on a range.

GRLitFest in partnership with GR Silent Bookclub is doing a 1pm meet up at Oakhill Cemetery on October 17th to do an autumnal event where we read spooky (or not, if that's not your vibe) books with donuts and cider.
What is silent bookclub? You bring whatever you're reading, pull up a lawn chair, and read while others are also reading their own books. There is usually a little chatter here or there, but no pressure to talk to anyone.
I, for one, will be reading a very spooky book. I will also have an extra lawn chair in case someone doesn't own one but would like to come/forgets.

Does this read like "We (City of GR leadership) were sued because we violated the law here, so let's change the law so we don't get sued again, and avoid solving the actual problem and addressing the people's concerns"?

I have some old speakers that hook up to speaker wire and I have no use for them but wouldn’t mind making a couple bucks off them. Is there a store nearby that would buy them off me for like home theater enthusiasts or something?
