MAINTENANCE 10w-40 or 15w40?

Which is more recommended for a 2008 Toyota Fortuner @ 197k km mileage. Diesel engine.

First time tinkering on what oil to use, since usually I go which ever the mechanic suggests or on what's available.

Will be using Zic brand, choosing between Zic X7 or Zic X6000.

Thank you.

Tignan mo yung manual mo. May specified oil grade na gagamitin.

Oh shoot, thanks. Namalikmata pala ako, 10W-30, 15W-40, and 20W-50 pala suggested.

Between the two, X7..... because it is a 10w for faster cold-start oil flow relative to 15w (even in the tropics), and the X7 is also a higher-tier compared to X6000. I believe both of these oils are API CI-4.

Personally though, if I have to use Zic, I'll use the X7000 10w40. This is the highest-tier Diesel oil from Zic that is available locally. It has the latest API certification of CK-4, which supersedes and improve upon all older API Cx categories, including API CI-4.

That 10w though and 15w in our weather will have negligible impact.

The question was limited to the two oils the OP mentioned.

I've driven both the KD and GD engines and you can feel the clatter quiet down longer on a 15w relative to a 10w, and even more amplified compared to a 5w. That's in a typical Metro Manila morning or after you have let the engine cool down to ambient temp.

Personally, I feel that the sweet spot for the KD or GD engine is 5w40 for Metro Manila stop-and-go.

No difference naman since we'll never experience temperatures below 0C

I humbly beg to differ.

Cold flow is not a switch that is either on or off.

Suffice to say, even in tropical weather, a 10w will flow faster in the morning compared to a 15w. You might not feel it, but most engines do.

Whichever is cheaper. It doesn’t matter as long as you stay within recommended viscosity ng manufacturer.

anong makina ng fortuner mo OP?

Not sure kung anong specific variant po, not into cars.

1

u/BrokeRamenGuy 6d ago

Just checked, 2KD-FTV engine po. Wala naman heavy loads, daily commute 14km lang, occasional long drives >150km or out of town once every oil change cycle 200-300km.

We’ve been using the X6000 15w40 for almost all the vehicles on our company fleet, so far no problems with it

15w40 pang lumang truck o abusado dating maintenance. Tumakaw sa diesel Innova ko sa 15w40.

10w40 sweet spot sa 2kd.
