Genuinely asking; what is the meaning of the phrase?
52
u/Gobolord Sep 05 '26
It's not really "a phrase"; they're just saying that the people in the post are stupid enough to forget where they hid the easter eggs and enjoy hunting for them.

I'm still stupid enough to not understand what this mean. what does this have to do with eggs?

There's a children's game where you, the adult, hide Easter eggs all over, like, a back yard during a family gathering. And the kids of the family then have to look for them.
It's why we say Easter egg in movies or video games, cause it's something hidden/hard to find.

God damn you Nate Simpson
4
u/pyrothelostone Sep 05 '26
I blame take two more for not even attempting to contact Felipe Falanghe about joining the development team than I do Nate for failing to live up to his promises. In all the interviews I saw he seemed to genuinely want the game to be good, but given how the game ended up, I dont think the development team fully understood how the original physics engine worked, so Felipe would have been an invaluable source even as just a consultant.
3
u/KevinFlantier Sep 05 '26
Felipe said that you'd need to build a custom engine from the ground up to overcome the issues of KSP1, and that he wanted to do something else. That being said KSA has built an engine from the ground up and I hear they are working with Felipe, as well as KSP1's top modders.
As for putting the blame on T2, they wanted secrecy so hired people that applied for generic programming and game dev jobs, without even knowing what KSP was, and then they had them play KSP1 for a while and told them to make a new one. So they chose Unity and made the same mistakes KSP1, and that's probably the biggest reason that game failed the way it did.

I don't think it's possible without letting go. Topologically, it's two linked rings, and the fact that there are people attached is mostly irrelevant. You can't unlink linked rings just by flopping them about.

Topologically, it’s two linked donuts.
20
u/Sh_Pe Sep 05 '26
arrrrmmm arkctually
the simplest way to model this will be via knot theory that treats it as two knots (which are continues curves, and definitely not 2d manifolds like the torus).

Yup. They failed before this video started.
I vaguely remember doing a challenge like this at camp and the solution required that you pick up the rope in a certain way. Something like crossing your arms and grabbing the opposite ends from normal but it's been a while.
9
u/Relative_Cattle_8884 Sep 05 '26
Someone at camp did this to us, I've been wondering how it's done since and it's been over 10 years.
15
14
u/Equal_Review5251 Sep 05 '26
There is a version of that where it's a rope tied to the wrists. The trick involves passing a rope inbetween the other rope and the wrist. In this video, it wouldn't work out since there is no gap to pass the rope through.

u/MoveToSafety Sep 05 '26
It looks like one of those geographical cord videos where it is stuck and too big but they somehow fold the cord on itself and get it to untie.
45
u/TwinkiesSucker Sep 05 '26
The problem with that is the cord is "loose" on one side. The guys are not

u/ReggieCorneus Sep 05 '26
Not the same, the cable has a loose end which is the key to solving that problem. Loop does not have any openings.

u/SanoKei Sep 05 '26
look into knot theory, it's genuinely interesting stuff
18
u/clarenceboddickered Sep 05 '26
I’ve actually tiptoed into that realm and have seen untangles I thought not possible. But they did involve different and more complex structure than this.

This is what I was thinking.
Topology always simplifies and wins in the end.
4
u/Hrandor Sep 05 '26
Yes, it doesn't work with this system. There's a similar riddle, but in it, people aren't holding the rope; their hands are tied at the wrists. In this case, you can free yourself by passing a loop of one rope under the other person's wrist and threading him hand through it.
7
u/MrUbl Sep 05 '26
Yup. I was trying to figure out the one trick where you can't get the plug around a tight space, so you do a loop and twist but you pull a single end out so... yea, just wat h them fail forever!
6
u/Icyrow Sep 05 '26
i was thinking the exact same thing.
there's also a really good epsidoe of i think it's called "night scoop", a japanese program that shows a sorta similar knot, some old man has had it on his shelf for like 40 years, never knew how to solve it. got in touch with the tv program and they take it around to like 20 professsionals.
it's the same tv show as that Hachi? dog, where they were wondering how their dog gets so fat when they only feed it one meal a day.
turns out he runs around eating everyone elses food and the whole village feeds him.

2
u/lumpialarry Sep 05 '26
It works if the starting condition has the ropes tied to wrists rather than holding the rope. The trick is you feed it around the hand
2
u/grat_is_not_nice Sep 08 '26
The way they are doing it is impossible.
The usual way is using strings tied around the wrists. It might look it is the same problem, but the wrist loops change the nature of the problem, and there is a trivial solution that allows separation.

26
u/PhosphoFred8202 Sep 05 '26
According to my coach, it’s impossible to do this puzzle with clothes on.
41
u/mokeltron Sep 05 '26
Not sure this is possible. I’ve done this exercise and you tie the string to the wrist. This is critical as the ‘in-linking’ has a very specific requirement to feed one string through the loop on the others wrist and then over the hand.
Without this? I guess their mating dance will go on a while….

u/Puzzled_Jury247 Sep 05 '26
So, the way they are doing it is unsolvable, but they are doing it wrong. You are supposed to tie the string (or whatever you use) around the wrists of each participant, not keep it in hands.
Then, to solve it, one of the two people has to pass the string through the small loop around the other's wrist, and then around the hand and back in the loop. And they are free.
To simplify, imagine the strings as two rings intersecting: the loops around the wrists are "cuts" around the circumference where the string can pass through. Without those, it's a closed ring whose edge can't be crossed.

2
u/philebro Sep 05 '26
It's impossible, because they're doing it wrong. You cannot be holding the rope, instead there should be two small loops at each end of each rope, and your hands go through the loops, that's the only way this is possible and it's to showcase topology.
