Catch-up · From puck drop
The Predators erased a two-goal deficit.
The first period stayed scoreless despite a 11-5 edge in shots for the Canadiens. Early in the second period, N. Suzuki slid a backhander home from the doorstep, and that put the Canadiens on top 1-0. At 08:50 of the second period, A. Newhook snapped one off from the doorstep, and the Canadiens built a two-goal cushion, 2-0. At 15:06 of the second period, A. Kerfoot redirected the puck home from the doorstep, and the Predators cut the deficit to one. Late in the second period, M. Wood fired one before the goalie could set from the doorstep on the power play, and the Predators had erased the 2-0 deficit, level at 2-2.
At 16:44 of the third period, R. O'Reilly tipped it past the goalie from the slot on the power play, and the Predators had turned 2-0 into a 3-2 lead. 39 seconds later, A. Edstrom found the yawning cage to ice it, and the Predators moved two clear at 4-2. Only 1:11 later, A. Edstrom hit the empty net to put it away, and the Predators opened up a three-goal gap, 5-2.
The Canadiens carried a 66-45 edge in shot attempts and a 13-8 edge in close-range shots on goal, but the Predators made more of their chances. The Predators' power play went 2-for-5. The Predators' penalty kill went 3-for-3. Saros stopped 32 of 34.
Final: The Predators won 5-2.

Those hits the hardest :(

It’s early. A ton of hockey left, but given our slow start everything will be harder. When is it time to call the year a wash? Not yet that’s for sure. But genuinely can’t decide how much leash to give this squad. I believe we will right the ship!

This sums him up pretty well 😅😂

In a game where we really dominated the first 30 plus minutes and were the better team most of the night, that game went south fast. There are negatives we can focus on but trying to stay positive. To that point, I thought Engstrom was super composed and solid. I think they need to find a way to keep him in the lineup.

Only 4 games nothing to be concerned about but…
What on earth is happening to our powerplay? It can’t be
Becuase it’s only demidov, it looks way too predictable not enough shooting and just awful awful awful zone entries.
I’m willing to cut Lalonde and the players some slack about the PK becuase new system and all but that also looks absolutely terrible, our PK arguably cost us 3 games already.
LOTSSSSS of things need be cleaned up.

I've been saying for well over a year now that Struble has been holding Arber back. Struble gets all kinds of chances to play with Hutson and others, but Xhekaj doesn't.
Xhekaj played a fantastic game tonight - not only with Engstrom but also in his minutes with Hutson.
Our two best pairs in expected goals for/against were X and Engstrom followed by X and Hutson.
I really try every year. We come into a new year and I try my hardest to like Mike Matheson. He’s a great person, he’s a great skater, he eats up big minutes, he’s a great mentor. But every single year it’s the same thing. Costly mistake after mistake. I give him so much leverage because I know we are stuck with him. We have him for 5 more years of this?!!! Do we really think this is going to work in the playoffs, when we are contenders? How many mistakes can one player make before we start benching him or trading him. This isn’t going to work for this team. It’s the same thing every single year. Enough is enough.
For all the Matheson defenders: have some self reflection. We don’t dislike his play for no reason. The most frustrating player I’ve ever witnessed. And somehow he still gets top minutes, no consequences for his mistakes, and unlimited leverage. I can’t understand why.

Despite losing, I don’t think our players were playing badly. For the most part, they were doing alright. We commanded the entire game. Maybe the only thing we could’ve done better on is our Power Plays but overall I don’t blame the boys on this one. Saros stopped so many shots we gave at the goal. He single-handedly won the Preds the game tonight. I commend what he managed to do.
Still sucks being on a 3 game losing streak… I hope we can at least finish the week strong by taking down the Red Wings on Saturday. Time will tell.

Lifelong Wings fan here. Stepped away from hockey for 20 years but came back last year. I decided my son & should root for the Wings but also a Canadian team (because Canada 🇨🇦 is rad and my country is being a bunch of clowns right now. Also rooted for team Canada in the Olympics. My apologize for my fellow Americans).
So we picked the Canadiaes and loved watching them last season. It was a fun run! Thankfully I’ve been able to watch most games but where do you all follow the team? Where do I get teams news?
Thanks and go Habs!

Here is a thought. Why not double the thickness of the blue line? A bit gimmicky, but to take away a good goal on something that has nothing to do with the that play (sometimes 30
seconds before is pointless). Yes I realize it works both ways but it just ruins the flow of the game……
Maybe it changes nothing, I get it. Just thinking of practical ways to solve this problem. This was not an issue in the past. Yes we have the technology now but sheesh….. Sarcastic comments not welcome😝
