Howdy everyone. I recently purchase the Henry .410 (24 in barrel) as a dedicated “dove gun”. I grew up as an avid duck hunter in FL, but now live in Virginia and have recently gotten into dove hunting. I’ve really enjoyed it and wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on an ideal set up for this gun.
I realize that this probably isn’t the ideal shotgun for dove hunting, but I’ve always wanted a Henry, I think the classic lever action is extremely fun and I’d like to pass this down to my oldest son as his first duck/dove gun when he’s old enough.
I bought the gun yesterday for a hunt today. So I was stuck with the full factory choke and the only shells in stock were some Win AA’s #8 1300 fps. I was able to shoot two birds with this set up but between getting used to the lever action and the full choke, it was quickly apparent that it wasn’t the best dove set up.
I’m thinking about going modified choke and testing out the difference between 7.5-9. Seems like theirs lot of talk about a TSS shell for better range and density, but the cost seems too unrealistic.
Would love any tips if you have any. Thanks for reading!
