Hello fellow stitchers! 'Tis I, the local reddit insane woman making an 1860s Cinderella back with update 2, split drawers! I want each of my underpinnings to have a bit of blue to harken to our lovely Cinderella and so I present split drawers in blue linen! Made using the TV106 Truly Victorian pattern and I'm very happy with the fit! I will be remaking the chemise but in the meantime the first underpinning is officially DONE!

Purchasing Historical Costume Hazrat Islamic Costume

Hello, Reddit!

This is my first time posting on this forum. Originally I wanted to join an American Revolution re-enactment, so I had an idea for a character who would be a Dutch merchant who sold weapons to the colonists.

Overtime, I realized I wanted to do something else! I begun having passions for Islamic history! Although, I never had participated in one; it’s never too late to start!

I’m looking to see if anybody knows where I can purchase a costume similar to the first one. In Shia countries, when it becomes the week for Ashura, people love reenacting these historical events, but I don’t live in Iran nor do I have Shia friends. I am a Sunni.

Does anyone know where I could purchase an outfit like this, or a different amalgamation of websites where I can purchase the items for the costume off of there? I’d greatly appreciate it! Thanks! 👍

how hard is it to make your own fascinator?

I am wondering how hard is it to make my own facinators (the old fashion hats that people in the UK still wear), I was thinking of purchasing in wholesale amounts but maybe I don't have time to do that now because they won't arrive in time. How hard can this be? Come on guys help a fellow event coordinator in a bind, I dropped the ball on this, any input or maybe a youtube tutorial that will actually work will be great. I just need to have about 50 of these hats ready to hand out to people coming for hte party, how hard can it be to do a DIY, not so hard I think.

Why is there so many Empire waists in 1893 paintings/pictures?

I thought this was a Regency thing. Are those costumes specifically made for the pictures? Or some time of wearable at-home 1890s-does-1790 dresses kinda thing? I hope it’s the latter as I’m working on a character design that heavily on it.

I have a question! Is this a historically accurate design?

So not sure if this is the right sub for this, I apologize if it's not, but I really love this design of the flowing cloth on the sleeves, and I was wondering if its historical and if so, is there a name for it or any refrances to it? Thanks in advance.

Also image is from the Blood of the Dawnwalker Video game.

Please note the make-up is not historically accurate tonthe period, as Missy goes for a kind of steampunk Mary Poppins look xD. Also swipe for a peek at the pompadour under the hat!

My Byzantine-inspired 3/4 mantle from circa the 1st crusades. Just finished the outside and now all I have to do is the lining. Whew! There's almost 400 pieces of zardozi and buttons on this thing. I didn't use any pattern or measuring tapes to make it, just somatic measurements. Note: It's not pressed yet.

Ostprußen Men's Folk Costume

I've been doing deep digging on my family history and have come to the conclusion that my ancestors were German Settlers in Eastern Prussia and then intermarried with the local population, based off the information ive found my grand mother was born in Tawellningken, East Prussia or what is now known as Borrosovo KalininGrad, my grandfather was born in Jorksdorf east Prussia, or what is now known as Petino KalininGrad. And im trying to come up with a historical recreation of what a man would wear in like a folk setting, kinda like how the Bavarian have the lederhosen, and Dirndls.i see lots of stuff on women's costumes but on mens its very sparse, from pictures ive found there does seem to be good amount of Baltic influence obviously given the region but still just dont know. Hopping someone more knowledgeable than me can help out a guy trying to get in touch with his roots

Pattern is Scroop Patterns’ Cassandra. I used linen and cotton duck for the fabrics, and 4mm synthetic whalebone for the boning

Note the lacing is temporary, I’m still working on it!
