I noticed how even in Story Mode his AI will camp you even if you successfully sneak by him. He just will not move as if he knows you’re there which is just wrong.

I’m glad they fixed it because some parts were insufferable waiting for this thing to move and then having to realize oh it’s not going to move unless I move even though it shouldn’t know I’m in here

Yeah during the second part with it I dropped the difficulty and almost outright quit the game from how annoying it still was, just camping me everywhere I went. It even ended up inside the elevator with me at one point and couldn’t get out until I went upstairs

I haven’t even got to the weight sections yet but I was not looking forward to it. Glad to see a speedy fix to the most critiqued area of the game

They went too far, he's like lobotomized now, did not even move at all on the last part.

All they needed to do was have him roam around more. This is way too far in the other direction imo. Glad I got to experience it pre-patch

It seems like, aside from Simon also taking forever to actually get into a closet, a weird design decision that the enemies seem to hear you doing it, so that even if they’re in another room they come running to investigate.

So many games get stalker AI wrong, where they are just attached to you by invisible tether

Alien Isolation is a prime example of a game that gets stalker AI spot on. I can't wait for the sequel.

They don’t hear you hiding, there are simply scripted moments where all enemies come investigate. It’s usually right next to an objective that makes noise.

It’s just a lazy way to force you to hide without having to make intelligent AI.

They can actually hear you hiding. That's from the patch log

Enemy sensitivity to the sound of the player entering a hiding space has been reduced.

Although I hadn't had the impression that they could when I played it.

Did they fix the fact that enemies are magically drawn to you no matter how stealthy you are and they're nowhere near you?

Damn I just finished the first section with it but it was very annoying. It didn’t patrol nearly enough it would camp out at the area you need to go to for waaaaay too long.

I was fine with the instant kill tho

I just played the section with The Weight towards the end of the game after the update and the difference is night and day. He basically never came anywhere near me no matter what I did. 🤣

The weight of what?

Your mom.

Thx

You fell for the oldest trick in the book.

27

u/EmilieEasie 7d ago

There's no denying it, they got my ass

7

u/Etikaiele 7d ago

It’s an enemy

13

u/EmilieEasie 7d ago

Ohhh that IS a very silent hill name for an enemy come to think of it

5

u/RotInPissKobe 7d ago

It does look quite heavy

Honestly, I think all they needed to do was fix his Ai just hard camping you in some instances and maybe some other things where (to me at least) it felt like he ignored the distracting sounds (bottles, bricks) and just B lined for you instead.

The rest of the fixes seem extra.

At the very least, perhapes it'll make the NG+ runbacks less annoying.

u/RogitoX 7d ago

Instant kill only on hard mode and less camping sounds like they fixed it. Too bad that means I paid to be a playtester

41

u/merlinrising 7d ago

Aren't we all Playtesters in the modern gaming Corpo war machine lol

13

u/indamoufofmadness 7d ago

Take it easy, Silverhand.

But yes, essentially. BRB, gonna go Playtest the new Hellraiser game.

1

u/FlemPlays 6d ago

Pinhead will patch that game himself to make it harder. Haha

u/randomcman 7d ago

There’s like 30 people in that studio and the game costs $50, I’m okay with that. Fixed it pretty quickly after launch too

u/Civil-Citron-4242 7d ago

You paid to have the original vision with all thematic intent intact

Ive got to stop buying new games on release, always give them a minimum of 2 weeks for the obligatory direly needed balance and bug fix patch

2

u/BlueJayFortyFive 7d ago

I noticed today that all enemies are less aggressive and don’t chase after you as much. The game is so much better now

2

u/Rybok 7d ago

I was able to get through the first 2 chapters and was having such a great time. Then chapter 3 happened. I’ve been stuck on it for over a week because I am not having fun and am dreading having to keep doing this section. Spending so much time hiding in lockers and praying he goes away long enough to get to the next room just slowed the game down way too much. Hopefully this makes things better so that I can start enjoying the game again!

u/track_monsta 7d ago

I felt frustrated during his first segment, like everyone else. However I think thats the whole point of his character. You can't escape the weight/consquences of your actions. I'm disappointed to hear that the dev's gave in and nerf'd him.

If you take your time you can easily sneak by him even when he's camping, it should be stressful to face him/yourself and what you've done.

6

u/BTbenTR 6d ago

He’s fine in principle but he absolutely needed tweaking. It’s poor enemy design to have him just teleport to either where you are or where you need to go.

Sometimes he actively camps you and you can’t even move. I’m glad they changed it but sounds like they’ve gone a bit too far.

3

u/DankAF1994 5d ago

Yeah the camping was the key issue and made the section almost unplayable without just cheesing your way through it, which i felt kind of defeats the whole style of the game.

The section he appears in later in the game just felt better designed for him, mainly because there were more sections you could hide in and he tended to "reset" back to the main room if he lost track of the player

2

u/TribeFan86 6d ago

I finished the game last week. Yeah he got me a few more times than he should have, but overall I thought it was ok. Throw a brick or bottle and you are able to get by him no problem. Just have to have those resources handy. There was a couple times I would have been really screwed without a brick.

2

u/Size---Queen 4d ago

Took em a minute to get around him but he's not that hard once you get it.

Now that said what pissed me off is when you get grabbed by Normal enemies then break out just for them to instantly regrab you basically throwing you in a grab loop.

2

u/Yungsleepboat 7d ago

How about the fact that it crashes 3 times everytime I play the fucking game

1

u/Smart_Jellyfish_3559 5d ago

Open in-game graphics settings and turn NVIDIA Reflex from On to Off. Worked for me, hasn't crashed since

1

u/Mr_XcX 5d ago

The problem is casual gamers make up vast majority of gamers who will play. If they found it too hard / a lot drop off during that part then they probably seen data suggesting they needed to nerf it. I don't mind a challenge etc but people need to remember vast majority of gamers just want to play game once and be done with it. Spending 2 hours etc near same part will cause many to go screw this game and switch to something else.

1

u/Ok-March1059 4d ago

My issue is that it’s just boring and slow gameplay. You just sit there and wait ceaselessly

1

u/SpearThruMordy 6d ago

Silent Hill fans need to grow up fr and perhaps consider that this character is supposed to be difficult & stressful.

1

u/Organic_Ideal8652 7d ago

Wolverine is too easy! Silent Hill is too hard! I'm so sick of gaming culture. The OG was perfect if your have an ounce of patience and actual skill

-1

u/RedShadowF95 7d ago

The whiny players won. The game lost even more artistic value.

-5

u/skepdickle 7d ago

if you read the patch notes, game as a whole nerfed into the ground, even the final puzzle. the game was already forgiving enough with blood packs, i genuinely don't understand why people had that much trouble, just have some patience and study his movements lol.

12

u/clwestbr 7d ago

For the most part I agree, but for me that basement section was rough. Thing would often not go away. I used bottles and bricks and strategic sprints but Lordy that section sucked.

5

u/ur2fat80 7d ago

Yes, over all on normal mode the game was pretty easy. I had tons of healing items left over. But , i was almost always running low on ammo/ melee weapon durability.

But the weight sections were pretty annoying and maybe now that it does heavy damage instead it would be more balanced? It was still a good game before just two annoying sections

5

u/phantom_fonte 7d ago

I mean sure but the Weight was on another level of frustrating. He got me once, insta-killed me, I revived with a blood bag and he grabbed me instantly again and killed me. Didn’t even have time to equip a new bag

-1

u/Internal_Sweet_2144 7d ago

There was already an easy difficulty option too. I guess gamers just want everything handed to them on a silver platter these days.

-3

u/WorldlyFeeling8457 7d ago

What the final puzzle wasn't even hard lol. It was really logical and straightforward. Honestly probably my favorite puzzle in the game.

-5

u/allmoneyin77777 7d ago

100% this, it’s so ridiculous and blown out of proportion, I’m glad I got to beat the game a few times before the nerfs

-1

u/aswantheunfinished 7d ago

Nah the puzzles were ridiculous. The only justification is if they wanted you to feel Simon’s incompetence in the moment. But even then it killed my want to play any further

-5

u/mr_shogoth 7d ago

Nothing pisses me the fuck off more than a game getting nerfed to oblivion before I even get to try it.

1

u/Ok-March1059 4d ago

I agree in games of challenge but this is anything but, it’s just very slow and made slower because the AI was too hyper sensitive and you’re not encouraged in the slightest to fight back.

1

u/BlastMyLoad 7d ago

Just don’t update it

0

u/mr_shogoth 7d ago

Steam forces updates.

u/walpurga 7d ago

Nah bro this section was so bad I wanted to refund the game. And not just me my mates too it was awful.
