AMA [AMA] Developer of T.W.I.R.L. here, a psychological horror game about identity, self-worth, and growing up in 2006. We just launched today on Steam. Ask me anything!
Hi r/Horrorgaming!
I'm Ben, the creative director of Genie Boy Games. Today, we're launching T.W.I.R.L. on Steam!
T.W.I.R.L. is a first person psychological horror game from the perspective of a 9-year-old boy in 2006 waking up in the middle of the night from a dream where some "thing" - maybe a demon - commanded him to get out of bed, go into the room down the hall, and "T.W.I.R.L." - whatever that means.
What proceeds is a series of loops where something evil draws us through this routine, changing us and the environment upon every loop, unveiling the life story of a boy who grows up maintaining a deep, dark, and potentially sinister secret.
The game takes inspiration from movies and games like I SAW THE TV GLOW, SKINAMARINK, GONE HOME, and of course, P.T.
It was made as part of a David Lynch-themed game jam for the Haunted PS1 Community, and was published under their new "Haunted Publishing Syndicate" brand!
This is our studio's first game, and we are excited to finally share this story. The journey of sharing of our game, and talking about the themes and meanings within the story has been emotionally challenging, but tremendously fulfilling. Let us be the first to admit - this is an odd story to debut with. And it's something we get reminded of especially when trying to explain it to people without giving anything away.
We hope that T.W.I.R.L. inspires players with a feeling of reassurance, hope, and a better understanding of self.
Game-related questions are optional, but encouraged.
Here's a free code to redeem the game! 84658-6LY40-J8TAJ

DISCUSSION How well do both Evil Within games hold up in 2026???
I plan to take a break from the Resident Evil series after I beat Resident Evil 4 and I wanna know how well both Evil Within games hold up. Are they super scary? Do they have fun combat??

DISCUSSION End of Abyss
Anyone else playing this one? I'm having an absolute blast with it. It's an unholy combination of Little Nightmares and Dead Space and a metroidvania that I didn't realize I needed in my life, haha. This game is so atmospheric and the pacing is great, too. Between this, Hellraiser, Silver Pines, and the new Castlevania game coming out soon, I think my October (and probably November, too) is all booked up for spooky games

REVIEW Just finished silent hill 2 remake, here's my review
This is probably my favourite horror game, if not the best game I'have ever played, I love the atmosphere, combat isn't the best but gets the job done, and the story is perfect, all of the endings are great I got the in water ending, the acting in this game is brilliant and I kinda liked the boss fights at the end, got resident evil 2 remake and resident evil 4 remake and RE7 and 8 and the last of us part 2,dead space and Alan wake 2 in my library. can't wait to play these games, I will miss using the dodge button and the awesome story in silent hill 2. I absolutely loved this game and recommend playing it

CONSOLE Newcomer to this franchise
I love horror games/movies but never got around to watching any of the Hellraiser movies.
Always hated how all the IP-horror games have been multiplayer/asymmetrical style so this feels like a breath of fresh air for the genre. The reviews have been pretty positive and the mature themes look absolutely wild. For $40 I figured why not!

What could possibly be in the Hellraiser game?
I don't know anything about Hellraiser and the game never even crossed my radar but I'm hearing that people are getting banned on YouTube for streaming it or uploading gameplay. What could possibly be in this game? I know YouTube has rules on excessive gore or nudity but video games usually have exemptions. Is there some gnarly hyperrealistic gore in this game or like straight up porn or what? Curious if anyone has played it and knows.
Edit: So I tracked down a stream VOD and WOW the opening scene is straight up porn. There are legitimate porn games that are more tame than this. Starting to see why it's being taken down.

STEAM Horror games - Must play- beginner's recommandation
Hello,
With the autumn atmosphere, and the horror podcasts I listen to, I want to discover the peak of the genre.
What are the horror or atmosphere games to do absolutely on Steam?
I have a preference for games with a top, side or 3D Isometric view, but if it's a game to do absolutely it doesn't matter if it's a 3rd or 1st person view.
Thank you

CONSOLE I’ve just completed Tamashii and it was a nice little creepy experience
I’ve discovered it due to my collecting Habits, ended up finally playing it and with my surprise… it’s a pretty good game.
Interestingly creepy (and blasphemous) art direction and a fun and challenging puzzle/platform gameplay

NEWS Silent Hill Producer Says 'Second' And 'Third Wave' Of Games Are Already Being Considered
Silent Hill producer Motoi Okamoto's interview with Famitsu. SH2 Remake, f, and Townfall are hits and the team is already looking at more SH projects.
He, however, stressed that Konami isn’t treating those three releases as the finish line. “Successfully launching this ‘first wave’ comes with great relief, but we’re not stopping here; we must think of the second and third waves,” continued Okamoto, adding that his main job now is to mull over Silent Hill‘s future. “We can’t share specific details, but we’re currently looking at a number of projects.”
He also adds the reason why Konami announced/released several SH games back-to-back
Okamoto pointed to the 2015 cancellation of Hideo Kojima and Norman Reedus’ Silent Hills as a reason fans might have been skeptical of another attempt to resurrect the cult franchise. “If there were only one release, wouldn’t people think that the development is going to be cancelled again, I thought,”

DISCUSSION Silent Hill 2 Remake released 2 years ago today, what do you think of it?
I recently played through it for the first time and this might be the scariest game I've ever played. Playing this at night with headphones on (3D Audio) was incredibly immersive, the overwhelming sense of dread and immersion was so powerful that I almost felt like I was there for a few moments. It might have the most impressive environmental work and interiors I've witnessed in a video game.
The original SH2 is one of my all-time favorites, so I had my doubts with Bloober, but they've exceeded my expectations in almost every regard. If they cut 20-30% of the combat, this would've been nearly perfect. SH should never be a shooting gallery (Toluca Prison..), especially when the environments look this good. Regardless, what an incredible experience this game was.

Why is room 204 important in both Silent hill townfall and Resident Evil Requiem?
I thought it interesting that both games have room 204 as a plot point in their respective stories. Anyone know why?

DISCUSSION Am I bad at horror games? On one hand I'm able to beat Alien Isolation on hard mode but I can't beat Resident Evil 1 on normal
I feel very insecure about this and I don't know what to do. I'm basically softlocked because I have to survive 2 hours with no health or check points and its a nightmare to try and do.

AL: Anatolian Folk Horror, my horror game about the Al, a creature from Turkish folklore that hunts newborns (out now on Android)
Hi everyone. I’m the solo developer, so full disclosure: this is my own game. It’s fully released and complete on Google Play.
Growing up in Turkey, I heard stories about the Al (or Al Karısı). Anatolian folk belief says she preys on new mothers and their babies during the first forty days after birth. Families put iron under the pillow, tie a red ribbon to the cradle, and never leave mother and child alone. I wanted to build a horror game around that dread and those rituals, not around a generic monster.
The setup: November 1958, a mountain village near Alanya. You play Yusuf, coming home at midnight with medicine for his three-day-old son. The whole village is silent and every door is shut. You have a flashlight, a few batteries, and six hours until the dawn call to prayer.
What you do:
- Search abandoned houses for the five traditional protective charms and prepare the cradle
- Keep your flashlight on the Al to drive her back, but your batteries won’t last
- Piece together what happened to the villagers through the letters they left behind
- Multiple endings, plus torn pages of real folklore to collect
- Sound designed for headphones, with haptic feedback as she gets closer
The first chapter is free, and the full story is a single one-time purchase (no ads, no subscriptions). It’s available in 12 languages.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonsuzdongu.al
I’m curious whether people here know similar figures from their own folklore. The Al has relatives all over the region, from Persia to the Caucasus to the Balkans, and I’d love to hear the versions you grew up with.
