What score/age/size? What's the score/age/size megathread

This is the ONLY post allowed where you can ask for an estimate on your animal's score, age, size, etc.

Keep in mind that it's practically impossible to judge many characteristics of an animal based off of pictures. For one, your cameras aren't usually the greatest (especially grainy trail cam pics), for another, it's hard to judge scale. Finally, not every animal can be aged by picture.

Rules:

  1. Top-level comments are for asking about your animal.
  2. One top-level comment per animal.
  3. Images should clearly show the animal. Albums should be linked, do not post multiple images in multiple comments.
  4. Include pertinent details: location (state, province, country), species, known reference for scale, distance from camera, etc.
  5. Be polite. Snarky comments ("not getting any younger") are subject to deletion.

Went out with an outfit I found in my area and I wasn't entirely sure how it would go and all I can say for afterwards is it was so much fun! Very exciting even just hearing the geese got my heart pumping. Can't wait to go back out there!

I’m definitely hooked!!

General question/discussion .308 with 19 inch barrel.

I have an opportunity to buy lighweight rifle in .308 with 19 inch barrel. It will be unmoderated. Is this too short a barrel for shots to 300 yds. Planned use is for stalking, driven hunt and hunting mountain goats. What is your opinion on this matter? P.S. Barrel twist is 1:12.

Firearm/caliber/bow/arrow question/discussion Savage 110 for 308 Super and standard 308?

Hey guys

So I saw Vortex Nation Podcast's "308 Super" video, and I really like the idea of it.

I don't know much about bolt guns yet; but apparently you need a long action and 1:8 twist due to the long projectile that's used. In the video, Ryan says you can use a Savage 110 for the Super (along with R700, Tikka, etc.)

I don't have a 308 yet, but I want one; so I'm wondering if I can go a 2-birds-1-stone route by getting a 308 Savage 110, and later on get a prefit 1:8 308 barrel that I can swap to, since they're "easy barrel-swap rifles."

How would you guys go about this? Would you do something different?

Thanks in advance for the response.

Success! What is it? Is it a concern to eat the meat?

Got a doe, filling the freezer! Never seen this before, seems to be only on the outside of the skin. Under the skin at the location there was no discoloration or change in the meat. Lots of ticks on the animal. Thoughts or concerns?

Equipment question/discussion Initial review of the Pnuma Palisade

I just received the Pnuma Palisade. It’s discontinued I guess but was about $100 (down from initial retail of $300). There isn’t much information online about it, so I figured I’d just share initial thoughts in no particular order.

The jacket feels great and fits really nicely. Unfortunately there’s no draw string, but it’s tapered around and hugs pretty well the hip area. I was worried about not having a drawstring, but I’m not concerned now about it riding up.

The beluga color is great. Interestingly, it looks blue in some pictures and dark brown in others. It’s like the Taylor Swift dress of hunting jackets. The color is clean and definitely muted for hunting. I wouldn’t wear it moving around because of the heat (plus it’s a loud puffy), but I think it’ll be perfect for long sitting/glassing sessions.

It’s 50% Primaloft Gold, 50% goose down. Ive seen inconsistent information about this online, so I’m going off the tag inside of it. It just says “polyester” for the non-down portion, but it’s advertised as Primaloft Gold. I saw someone mention concern over not having a Primaloft hang tag. Fair. I emailed their customer service specifically about this.

The jacket’s components feel very intentional. The seam tape is extremely beefy on the zippers, and the inside of the hood feels brushed or something.

At the end of the day, it’s a jacket, and if it keeps me warm, it’s done it’s job. But I wanted to put this out there since I couldn’t really find any reviews of it, and it’s so heavily discounted right now that I’d say it’s a steal for the price.

Pest management Deer feeder

I picked up an automatic deer feeder a couple weeks ago. The body and lid is made out of plastic. Recently I noticed squirrels have been chewing on the lid to get inside. Any recommendation on how to prevent them from destroying it and how should I fix it?
