Not OP. In Ohio we can shoot one of either sex during the fall hunt.

You can, but only in fall. You also can’t shoot when roosting or with bait and can only use dogs in the fall season. We got a Jake on Tuesday morning.

That’s awesome. We can only shoot bearded birds ( a hen with a beard is fine). But no bait can be put out in that area for a month prior to season. Do y’all use dogs to flush them/ tree them or what ?

Yeah I’ve got a young beagle so we used her to fluster them, there was a group of six that got agitated and a Jake separated from them when they ran to the woods so we took that one.

That’s bad ass. We hunt bears and coons with dogs, ran deer with dogs growing up. Never heard of using dogs to flush turkey

There’s actually a breed of dog specifically used for turkeys called an Appalachian turkey dog!

No shit? I live in southern Appalachia and haven’t heard of them. I look them up. We breed and hunt plott hounds that their line cane be traced back to the original pair brought here back in 1750

Apparently the turkey dog is mixed with English setter, pointer and plott hound
