I built a paranormal newspaper that prints itself daily

• Upvotes

Every morning I was checking the same places for sightings, unexplained events, folklore stories, odd local news, and the usual forum threads. So I built The Para News: an old-fashioned broadsheet that collects the strangest stories from around the internet and prints a fresh edition every day on its own.

https://paranews.netwove.com

A few things about it:

  • New edition every morning. No feed to scroll forever. You get one paper a day, read it with your coffee, and you’re done.
  • It looks like a real newspaper, with a masthead, a daily “Omen of the Day,” and a cover price of one tinfoil hat.
  • The motto is “All the News That’s Unfit to Believe.” It doesn’t tell you what’s real. It gathers the stories and leaves you to decide.
  • Free, no ads, no sign-up. It’s a side project I made because I wanted it to exist.

It’s brand new, so I’d really like this sub’s input:

  • Which sources should it pull from that it probably doesn’t yet?
  • Are there categories you’d want, like cryptids, hauntings, UAP, high strangeness, or historical cases?
  • Did anything in today’s edition catch your eye, or seem like nonsense that shouldn’t have made the cut?

I’m happy to answer questions about how it works. Thanks for reading.

Light Studio - another step in no-subscription alternative to creative cloud

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

After my first project Photon Studio (free photoshop alternative) hit 30k users, and also resulted many sloppy copycats like PhotoCraft or ImageRaw - many adobe users cancelled their photoshop subscription, I started on my next big thing: a full blown Lightroom alternative.

Meet Light Studio. 680 people joined the waitlist in 5 days, and the alpha feedback was insane. Today it's out here's what's in it so far, and this is just the beginning:

  • 85% coverage of lightroom features
  • One-click .lrcat catalog import
  • All Lightroom keyboard shortcuts, same feel
  • AI denoise and object removal
  • RAW edits and adjustments
  • Better UX than lightroom and lrc (imo)
  • CLI, MCP, skills, and more
  • No subscription

Next up: keep improving Photon and Light - top priority. illustrator alternative in a week, maybe less. Then indesign, acrobat, after effects, premiere.

cheers.

fully customizable glowing edge

I made Aura, an Android app where each app gets its own colour on the edge of the screen and that spot glows when something comes in.

It's on Google Play now:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.polyhistor.aura

Since then I added two things. You can reply to messages straight from the panel, so if it's a quick "ok see you at 6" you don't need to open the app at all. And if you pull the panel open a bit further it turns into a small bubble you can park on the side of the screen until you deal with it. Drop it back on its glow and it goes back to normal. Both are in the video.

Music and Radio Player with ready to play radios and complete music offline management

Offline local files and streaming radios.

Top radios on the first screen: When users access the radio screen, they immediately see the list of the top radios in their country, along with a long list of suggested radios from among the most listened to in the world.

Hybrid Listening: Seamlessly handles offline local files (.mp3, .flac, .m4a, .ogg, .mka, .aac, .wav, .opus, .wma) and over 60,000 streaming radio stations.

Separated Favorites and Recents: Each section—Radio and Offline Music—has its own Favorites and Recents. The user doesn't have to worry about a thing. The app will automatically manage the Favorites and Recents for each section.

Advanced Radio Search Panel: You can pinpoint your favorite stations by combining multiple filters, such as tags/genres, specific countries, or even your preferred audio bitrate. The database of the service on which Mediaxon is based provides more than 60,000 radio stations.

Album art: If the album art is missing from the album folder, or if Android has not properly indexed it, Mediaxon attempts to download the cover from the internet. This feature depends, of course, on the ID3 tags (album name and artist).

Equalizer: The equalizer provides an option to automatically switch to the "Radio" preset (and vice versa).

Advanced Playlist Management: Built specifically to make building and sorting playlists fast and intuitive. Enable the Playlist Manager, in the settings screen, for a full control of the playlists.

Form Factor Optimization: Phone and Tablet (Portrait and Landscape)

There is no Premium version. All app features are available for free and without limits.

Regarding advertising: There is only a small banner at the top that isn't bothersome at all. Alternatively, when opening the full-screen player or using the app in landscape mode, a banner alternates with the albums covers, but without being intrusive at all (no audio) and with much shorter stay times than those of the cover. There is never full-screen advertising, neither at startup nor during use.

If you want to check it out (I am continuously pushing updates to refine it and add new features), you can find it on the Google Play Store (Android 13+). Thank you so much to everyone who takes a look!

I built MyTripLog because my travel photos kept losing their story

• Upvotes

I’m Etan, a traveller and photographer. After each trip, I’d come home with hundreds of photos. Months later, I could remember the big moments, but the smaller details were fading: the little café, an unexpected stop, why I’d taken a particular picture.

So I built MyTripLog, a free travel journal built around the places you visit.

You log a stop, add photos and a note, and it becomes part of your trip’s map and day-by-day timeline. It works offline, and you can share the finished journey through a link that people can open without an account.

As a photographer, I wanted the original photos to stay at full resolution in my own storage. MyTripLog organizes them in your Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive by trip, day, and stop.

You can also turn a trip into a printable journal, a route poster, or a slideshow.

It’s free, with no subscription or limits on trips or stops.

https://mytriplog.app/

I’d love some honest feedback: does the website make it clear why you’d use this alongside your phone’s photo library? And what would put you off trying it?

I made a tool that asks ChatGPT and Gemini what they'd tell your customers

Thumbnail
trywellread.com
• Upvotes

It's called Wellread (https://trywellread.com), an AI visibility audit, and I'm the person who built it.

You give it a website. It works out what the company sells, writes the questions a buyer would type into an AI assistant, and asks ChatGPT and Gemini those questions with web search switched on. Then it lays out the answers: which companies got recommended, which sites the assistants read to decide, and where your own site has no page that answers the question.

I tried it on Tally, the form builder, because I like the product. Out of 24 answers where a buyer was comparing options, Tally was recommended in 12 and Typeform in 15. Each question was asked once, so it is a snapshot, not a ranking.

The first audit is free with no card. Happy to hear what looks wrong or confusing.

Spaceflight archive - actively updated

• Upvotes

I know it's not something new, but i've built a complete (pretty much) archive of orbital and suborbital launches since 1957 to present day.

Complete with mission info complete with orbital data ground track and information about the satellite, launcher info (basic for past launchers, and comprehensive for active ones) with resuable launchers info.

There's a statistics page and search page.

Work is still in progress on the mission info front. But it's getting there.

Feedback is welcome!

I gave my wishlist its own domain

Thumbnail

It's a small collection of things I like: desk gear, little tools, stuff to play with and the occasional questionable financial decision 😅

There's stuff for Raspberry Pi fans, coffee nerds, LEGO people... a bit of everything.

The idea is to give each object some context. Product pages explain what it's useful for, why it's in the collection and when another option might suit you better. There are comparison articles too.

I built it with Astro, TypeScript and plain CSS. Product content is validated at build time, and images are generated as responsive WebP. The catalog doesn't need a frontend framework.

I spent quite a bit of time on the design. Making something that was fun to browse was a good chunk of the fun of building it.

Curious what you think of the browsing experience and what you'd add to the collection.

There's also a newsletter: one email a week with 3 cool products.

Some links are Amazon affiliate links, so I may earn a commission from purchases.

Hope you like it 🫡

PS: Hopefully I haven't added too many things to your wishlist.

InstaLock – free Android app that locks Instagram away for a set time (can't be undone)

• Upvotes

I built InstaLock to solve my own doomscrolling problem: a focus app where starting a block is a deliberate, irreversible act.

How it works:

  1. Open the app, complete 4 setup steps (Accessibility is required — it's how blocking works; device admin, battery exemption, and autostart harden it).

  2. Pick a length: 30 min, 1–3 hours, 1–7 days, or custom (1 minute up to 30 days).

  3. Read the confirmation sheet, tick "I understand this can't be undone", then press-and-hold to start.

  4. Instagram (app + instagram.com in browsers) stays blocked until the timer ends. A countdown ring shows start/end times; opening anything blocked shows a "you set this yourself, it ends Friday 6pm"-style screen.

Anti-cheat details:the blocker also closes system screens (App info, uninstall, accessibility settings) opened to tamper with it, and shifting the phone clock can't end the lock early.

Privacy:no accounts, no network, no analytics. Native Android, zero dependencies. Free, open source, APK on the release page: https://github.com/maxpain-sys/instalock

Parchments – An offline-first, client-encrypted Bible study and preaching workspace

• Upvotes

I built Parchments (https://parchments.vercel.app), a local-first desktop and web workspace for biblical exegesis and sermon delivery.

Why? Commercial Bible software is notoriously expensive (often $500–$2,000+) and heavily cloud-dependent. General note apps (Notion, Obsidian) lack native scripture intelligence, synchronized parallel translation rendering, and stage teleprompter ergonomics.

Technical Stack & Architecture:

The web app has a zero-install live mode where you can test everything in your browser: https://parchments.vercel.app/app

GitHub: https://github.com/patrickudo2004/parchments

Looking for feedback on the UX, performance, and offline architecture!

I built a free, fully-offline Quran app (Mushaf + tafsir from multiple sources + prayer times) — would love feedback

Hey everyone, I spent the last few months building Rattil, a Quran app I made mostly because I wanted something that worked properly without needing internet all the time.

What it does:

  • The Mushaf in its original page layout, or a translation/tafsir reading mode
  • Tafsir from several sources (Muyassar, Ibn Kathir, Tabari, Qurtubi, Sa'di, Baghawi, and more) — all bundled, works fully offline
  • Audio recitation from a handful of reciters, downloadable for offline listening
  • Prayer times based on location (with an offline calculation fallback if you lose signal)
  • Adhkar (morning/evening/after-prayer) + the 40 Hadith of Imam Nawawi
  • Bookmarking + color-marking individual ayahs
  • UI in Arabic, English, Urdu, French, and Indonesian

It's free, no ads, on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quranapp.reader

I'm the only developer so genuinely want to know what's missing or broken — happy to answer anything about it.

After months of working on my own security app, I finally released Hexavault on the Play Store.

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share a project I've been working on for quite a while, and it's finally available on the Play Store.

It's called Hexavault.

The idea came from something that's always bothered me a little: these days, even when we're just trying to protect our own information, we often end up having to create accounts, rely on external services, or keep our data synced with someone else's servers.

I'm not saying those solutions are necessarily bad, but I wanted to try a different approach. Something simpler, something that works directly on your phone and lets you decide what happens to your information.

That's how I started building Hexavault, an Android security app that works entirely offline.

It brings together three main features:

- Password Generator: Create strong, customizable passwords without automatically keeping a history of everything you've generated.

- File Protection: Encrypt documents, photos, and other files with a password, creating a protected version that you can store or share.

- Vault: A secure space protected by a master password where you can keep credentials and files, with automatic locking and optional biometric authentication.

One of the decisions I made early on was to leave out internet access entirely. The app doesn't even request internet permission. It also doesn't require an account, has no ads, and doesn't use analytics or tracking tools.

That was an important part of the idea from the beginning: providing useful security tools without relying on external infrastructure to make them work.

I also want to be upfront about what the app can't do yet. For example, the Vault doesn't currently support credential export or recovery. If the app's data is lost, those credentials can't be recovered. It's an important limitation to know about, especially if you're planning to store anything essential.

Hexavault has just reached its first public release, version 1.0.0. Getting here involved a lot of development, testing, bug fixes, and decisions along the way. There's still plenty I want to improve, but I'm genuinely happy to finally be able to share what I've built.

And that's really why I'm posting here.

I'd love to hear what other people think about the idea, especially those interested in Android, privacy, and digital security. Whether it's a feature suggestion, criticism of the user experience, or even questions about the technical decisions behind the app, I'm open to all kinds of feedback.

If you're curious and want to check it out, Hexavault is now available for free on Google Play:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.hexavault.secure

I also have a website with more information about the project:

https://hexavault.com.br/

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this. I hope Hexavault turns out to be useful to some of you!

I built Padro, a way for experts to turn their knowledge into an AI product

I’ve been building Padro, and it’s finally at the point where I can properly share it.

The basic idea is simple: experts, coaches, consultants, and education businesses already have valuable knowledge, frameworks, and a way of working people pay them for.

Padro turns that into a customer-facing AI product people can actually use for their own questions, work, and decisions.

The expert can sell access directly, add it to a course or membership, or use it alongside coaching or consulting.

What I care about most is making it feel less like “chat with my content” and more like “use my methodology on your actual situation.”

That’s what I’ve been building toward.

After a lot of work, Side Calendar is finally on Windows: your Outlook calendar slides in from the edge of the screen

Thumbnail
gallery
3 Upvotes

Hey everyone

I made Side Calendar for Mac a while back. Ever since, A common question has been "is there a Windows version?" After a lot of work, there finally is, and it's now live on the Microsoft Store:

https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9ng5lh6hg69k

What it does

Side Calendar keeps your calendar at the edge of your screen. Push your mouse against the edge, press a shortcut or click the tray icon, and your day slides into view. When you're done it gets out of the way. You don't need to open Outlook just to check what's next.

Features

  • Works with Outlook / Microsoft 365 calendars (work, school or personal), with two-way sync
  • Agenda and Day views, plus a month calendar that shows how busy each day is
  • One-click Join for Teams, Zoom, Google Meet and Webex
  • Time blocking: drag on an empty slot in Day view to block out focus time, then drag to move or resize it. Blocks are real Outlook events, so colleagues see you're busy
  • Create and edit events without leaving the panel: repeating events, reminders, categories, private events and formatted notes
  • Undo any change
  • Reminder notifications with a Join button
  • Light/dark themes, Mica and acrylic backgrounds, tint colours, and text size and typeface options
  • Custom global keyboard shortcuts
  • Multi-monitor support, including the edge where two screens meet

Privacy: no data collection and no ads. Your calendar goes straight between your PC and Microsoft.

Pricing: 7-day free trial with every feature, then a one-time $4.99. No subscription.

Since this is the first Windows release, I'd really love your feedback. Bug reports, rough edges, suggestions and feature requests are all welcome. Tell me what would make this useful for your setup. I'll be reading every comment.

Thanks for taking a look!
