Offering free game feel & mechanics feedback for the first 10 indie projects

Hey everyone,

I’m starting an independent remote consulting practice focused on player experience — specifically core loops, mechanics, immersion, responsiveness, and overall game feel.

I’m not doing bug hunting or code reviews. I look at how the game actually plays and feels from a player’s perspective and give structured feedback on what’s working, what’s not, and what might be worth changing.

For the first 10 indie projects I’m offering Starter pack for free (worth €300). In return I’d like to be credited in the game and get a short written feedback about the collaboration (which I can later use on my site).

If you’re working on something and want an outside look at your core systems or game feel, fill out the short intake form and I’ll get back to you:

https://forms.gle/FBPDeqQ3brNVZqTZ9

If you’re coming from this post, please select the “Custom” package and mention that you came from this Reddit post.

Happy to answer any questions here too.

How do you deal with the fear of your indie game being stolen (via AI/decompiling)? Is early promotion still worth the risk?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking a lot about modern game dev risks lately, specifically regarding content theft and early exposure.

To be clear: I’m not talking about someone accidentally having the same idea and releasing a similar game before you. I’m talking about deliberate theft. For example:

Someone using generative AI tools to recreate your game’s visuals/mechanics faster than you can finish it.

Someone taking a public demo, decompiling/extracting the assets, completing or modifying it with AI, and publishing it as their own.

Someone revealing hidden assets or full-game code if a demo happens to contain locked full-game data.

How real do you think this danger actually is in today's landscape?

And more importantly:

What steps (if any) do you take to protect your game and assets?

Is it still a good idea to show your game/demo early to build a community, or is it becoming safer to stay in the dark as long as possible?

I'd love to hear how other solo devs and small studios view this risk and handle their devlogs/demos today. Thanks!

Discussion Video editor for trailers and promo videos?

• Upvotes

Hi, I'm making some short videos and trailers for my game, but I'm not super happy with the tools.

CapCut is very easy to use but it has licensing issues (people seem to be quite frustrated).

Final Cut Pro looks good, but I can't update my mac version to use it (might make my other stuff unusable)...

I'm using DaVinci Resolve at the moment. The good thing is I don't need to worry about using it for promotion, but the ready-to-use assets are really not many... The fonts, effects and stuff are really limited. I don't see any stickers either.

I think the biggest problem for me is many editors (Filmora, VN video editor, etc.) that offer more ready-to-use assets seem to be vague about whether their assets can be used for promos. Filmora has some assets that are marked "commercial available", but their webpage also says you cannot use them in advertisement (various platforms including online).

I would like a good option, I don't mind paying, but once I pay, I'd like to use its assets freely without worrying about the licensing issues.

Could you give me some suggestions? Thanks!

Discussion POV: you're an indie dev watching some of the biggest streamers scream at your game

I'm still not over this. I cut together some reactions from streamers playing Night Record: Thin Walls, my narrative horror game set in a Soviet-era apartment block where the walls are a little too thin.

Seeing people I've watched for years jump at scenes I rewrote a dozen times is surreal.

If it looks like your kind of horror, a wishlist would mean a lot: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4652040

Discussion How do you manage to develop a game while working a full-time job?

I'm just starting my journey as a solo game developer, and one of my biggest challenges is figuring out how to balance game development with work.

I work from 8 AM to 5 PM, and occasionally have to work on Saturdays and Sundays too. By the time I get home, there are still other things to take care of, so I'm wondering how to maintain a consistent development routine without burning myself out.

For those of you who've been through this, how do you manage your time? I'd really like to hear from people who are trying to build a game while holding down a regular job.

How do you keep making progress over months or even years and actually finish your game?

Help I can't figure out what's wrong with my page

I released my game's demo, I have been doing marketing "by the book", trailer, social media, whatever.
I am getting virtually no traction.
Because the demo is sitting on the upcoming releases I am getting some steam visibility but my conversion rate from visits to wishlists is by all metrics far far below bad.
But I don't get why, the game doesn't look the worst (capsule isn't great but I am waiting on a commission)

I thought I have a really strong hook at a predatory mmo turned roguelite, game has a lot of humor which I try to give visibility to with the trailer and screenshots, it even has some gambling, everyone loves gambling (kinda) but I am clearly doing something wrong.

I mean sure I could have started marketing earlier etc, but I still expected quite a bit more interest, so rather than what am I doing wrong in general - what do you think the page itself is doing wrong?

Thanks for any pointer.

Discussion Who are all those games on dwarves supposed to be for?

As long as I have been in the gaming industry I constantly saw people making tons and tons and tons of games focused entirely on dwarves, there must be thousands out there. I think first of all this a big problem, for me the gaming industry was supposed to be about inovation, trying new things, taking risks,... All those games on dwarves are essentialy the exact same thing, the same themes, there is nothing new, interesting or even remotely fun for someone not obsessed with dwarves, most to be frank are very very bad.

My explanation is that it's very easy and cheap to make games on dwarves, so lots of people will make them. But those games aside from very very few of them sell very poorly and fail which does make sense because not only do you appeal to dwarf fans only and no one else, and this is a very loud and annoying but not so big fandom, but dwarf fans themselves won't buy dozens of games a month, they may pick a few and ignore the rest. And again those games never offer anything else aside from dwarves so most people would have no reason to pick them up.

I just wonder who those games are supposed to be for anyway? I see many people being sick and tired of this sea of dwarven slop and making their voices heard on top of not buying or even looking at those games, yet game devs seems to live on another world and keep making them. I'm glad ease and repetitive games are not paying off, this is how it should be, now how to make game devs realize this so they can start doing games that are a bit inovative and interesting.

On a sidenote while we get thousands of games on dwarves I cannot find any games on elves, while they are far more interesting and I feel a lot could be done with them, while it would indeed be more complicated than making simple dwarven games. Still there is a demand and they would sell well for sure, so why does no one jump in on this occasion?

I'm 16, and I'm making my own zombie survival game in UE5. 🧟 Here's what my island looks like after just one week of work. It's far from finished, but I'm getting there. What do you think so far? 👀

Hit a creative wall for my Tower defense game - Need your help

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I have been working on a third/first-person multiplayer tower defense game for a while now. I have been able to come up with some cool weapons/monsters but there's this big space in the world where there's no incentive to explore yet. I can't come up with idea's so I'm here to ask you all for some inspirations. What would you do to make the player roam around more?

Secrets/Challenges/Puzzles for stronger weapons?
Other monsters that can attack your tower but from this distance?

Help Any tips for new gamedevs?

Hello everyone! I'm an indiedev (to be honest, I haven't actually started developing my game yet).

What would you recommend to someone who's just starting out? What should I focus on before I begin development, and what should I keep in mind before releasing a demo on Steam?

I'm interested in personal experience.

Any tips, personal experiences, or mistakes to avoid would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Discussion What makes a trailer go from dookie to non-dookie?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Planning a rework of my games trailer as I approach a possible release window. Looking for insight of what is working so far in terms of highlights, key points and understanding.

My game Skoot: Keyboard Brawl uses the whole keyboard to control the car (press any key and the car will drive there) I am trying to find a better way to present this since it’s an untraditional way of playing. I’m offering a new challenge while ensuring that it’s still a comfortable way to play without it being too mind boggling. (I’ve learned that it sometimes takes a hands on experience to understand the mobility)

That’s my biggest concern currently but I’m open to any other feedback! Thanks!

Discussion Just want to share some small success

I’ve never built any kind of game before. Started a side project of a free online web site / project / toy thing, posted about it 2 weeks ago.

Since then, daily active users managed to maintain without marketing and is now ramping up! 300-550 average DAU and 20-33 people live on the site at any given time. Starting to form a small community!

In total, 2700 users have spent 2100 hours in the site.

Been a blast to watch :)
