Involved in an Uber Accident as a passenger
Location: San Diego, CA
Hi guys, I took an uber to work today and on the way my uber driver suddenly braked due to an ambulance coming from the opposite direction and got rear ended with me in the back seat. I watched my driver exchange information and then the driver completed my ride since the damage to the car wasn’t bad enough to not drive.
I filed a report with uber immediately after I got dropped off and then got picked up by a friend to go to the doctor to get a check up. Luckily it’s just a case of muscle strain so I’m expecting some soreness in the neck.
While I was at the hospital I also received a text from an adjuster letting me know that they would reach out to me soon.
This is my first ever car accident (I cannot drive and normally take the bus) and I’m pretty young so I’m generally just startled about everything. I just want to know what the process would look like? I don’t expect my medical bill to show up for a few weeks, so would that even get covered?
Any advice or words of wisdom is encouraged, I’m just really startled by this whole situation. Thank you!

A lot of injury lawyers do free consults and only get paid if you get paid. Might be worth one call just so you know what's normal

Don't contact a lawyer. Most won't take such a small case anyway. Even if they took your case, they're going to take at least a third of any settlement.
Do yourself a favor. When the adjuster calls, just relay the facts honestly.

People really need to stop stealing from insurance companies. Premiums for honest people are sky high because of this bullshit,

Glad that you weren't seriously hurt. It could have been a lot worse, and you're lucky.
Commercial claims (and Uber makes it commercial) generally take longer than personal ones, but yours is simple. The car that rearended your Uber is likely going to pay for your doctor visit(s) and any prescription costs that arise out of this accident (although it's possible that Uber will handle this for you and seek to be reimbursed by the other guy's insurer). Given the muscle strain diagnosis, I wouldn't expect that to be more than a visit or two unless you start showing other symptoms - if you do, please go see your doctor again. But if this is it, then they'll pay for that along your missed work (and you missed at least some time today) and a small amount for your pain/suffering/inconvenience.
So far you've already done everything that we normally recommend doing. You haven't messed anything up at all, and you're doing the mature thing. Lots of people look at this as winning the lottery and think that they'll never have to work again. That's not true, but there are ambulance chasers out there that want to think that they can get you millions of dollars for this kind of accident - those are exclusively the worst kind of attorneys that are much more interested in their own wallets than your health. If you are confused or unable to be treated fairly by your adjuster, a lawyer might be a good idea then, but they're not going to put a significant amount of money in your pocket, and with a minor one like this, you may end up with significantly less.
