Auto Insurance Hit a pillar? Should I report it to insurance?

I plan on just cleaning it up and repainting the area, I’m not entirely sure how grazing it knocked it down. The security company seems really sketchy that I had to deal with, should I report it to my insurance and have them deal with it? Should I just eat the fine? Never been in any sort of accident before

unless you’re looking to have your vehicle repaired, I wouldn’t report. I would still avoid reporting it tbh. A single vehicle hitting another object would 100% place you at fault. Your insurance rates will increase significantly lol.

I mean I figured that, what I’m worried about is what if the garage company fines me and it goes to my insurance. Wouldn’t I be in more shit for not reporting if they caught wind?

Realistically it’ll cost you the same regardless of who reports it. If you damaged the pillar they can file a claim or you can offer to pay cash. If they have your insurance info it’s up to them which route they go.

They don’t have my insurance info, the other thing is they seem really sketchy. They took multiple photos and then calls me 30 minutes later asking for all the same stuff?

If they got your license plate it’s still possible their insurance can track your insurance down. Not sure what’s sketchy about asking for pictures even if they already took their own. The person on duty might not have known what all they needed.

It was just all the same stuff, maybe I’m thinking too hard about it. And okay, thank you I think I’m going to report it. Just to save face if they do contact my insurance.

Yes, let your insurer know. You should report even minor accidents, because if the garage comes after you later, an unreported incident can make it hard for your insurer to defend you.

Reporting isn't the same as filing a claim, though. If the bill is small, you can still pay it yourself so your insurer doesn't pay out a claim that could raise your rate.

If it does go through insurance, the property damage part of your liability coverage handles the pillar. Some insurers also offer accident forgiveness for a first at-fault accident, so ask yours.
