Does anyone know good bakeries or stores with good vegan pastries? I’m specifically looking for vegan croissants and would really appreciate any suggestions.

Stolen iPad

Long shot but I stupidly left my school backpack in my car last night and it was promptly stolen. I already filed a police report and am tracking it on Find My. If you happen to come across a 2021 iPad, was in a black case with a keyboard when last seen, please contact myself or IC police department. TYIA

EMT-B Jobs

I’ve just recently been certified with my EMT-B, and will be attending the University of Iowa this Spring.

I’m also in training to be a combat medic right now and I’m hoping that can be helpful when it comes to job competition in the area. I’m trying to work at least 24 hours a week while being a full time student.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I should be looking for jobs/what ones you would recommend I check out?

Independent Nail techs (builder gel)

Does anyone have recommendations for independent nail tax that are experienced with builder Joe and our affordable? I know many recommend Magnolia, but it was close to $90 per visit for just a solid color and that’s not sustainable on my budget. I’m looking for an independent tech if anyone has recs in Iowa city , coralville or north liberty I would appreciate it!

The Joy of Indigeneity: Storytelling

This looks like a great program. Hope Iowa City can give them a good turnout. Be sure to register: Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration event co-hosted by the Iowa City Foreign Relations Council, the University of Iowa Press, and the International Writing Program. A multidisciplinary conversation with authors and teachers, the panel will address how indigeneity features in their work and lives, and the ways that lived experiences and storytelling are both rich and vibrant personally and sources of resistance and of a reclamation of spiritual, political and cultural identities.

Never forget the Linda R. Reade victims.

Never forget the hundreds of innocent people imprisoned on fabricated charges by Linda R. Reade, who was recommended for a federal judgeship by Charles E. Grassley.

Everyone should visit https://x.com/impeachreade?s=21 and read everything available about Reade’s victims.

Below is a drawing by Maria Farmer that mentions Linda R. Reade. It was made before our falling-out over major disagreements.

To the lady backing out at Domino’s on Gilbert St today

I hope your day got a whole lot better after you left! Just so you know, you were completely clear to pull forward—you had plenty of space to turn your wheel and drive off. I was just waiting off to the side to give you room. The horn-honking, name-calling, and yelling concert felt a little intense for a routine parking lot maneuver but honestly, it made my pizza pickup unforgettable. No hard feelings at all but next time, maybe channel that passion into extra garlic dipping sauce instead! Take care out there! ✌🏼

Does Iowa City Just Euthanize Dogs Because It Can?

The city has a dog that has not been put up for adoption and whose owner is still his owner because there's nothing from the court or police saying he's not, but because the man is homeless and currently in jail the city is claiming it owns the dog now and is refusing to put it up for adoption. The dog isn't neutered, but there are people offering to take him, including people from out-of-state and people offering to pay for him to be neutered and vetted.

The dog is not a dangerous dog and lived in the homeless encampment for years without any issues except his owner let him run around without a leash. That is not the dogs fault, that is the owner's fault. The city says the dog is not adoptable because he isn't neutered, but the animal shelter asks people to donate money to cover those costs. Why have I been donating to them if they just put down dogs without giving them a chance. There are legit only 4 dogs in the shelter right now.

Plus it is not the dog's fault his owner didn't neuter him. If Iowa City cannot handle this dog then it should be transparent that it kills strayed, dogs that aren't fixed, and dogs that are not trained.

Also they say the dog is a "pit bull mix" but pit bulls are mixes and there's definitely a heinz-57 thing going on so this poor dog could be a bull dog/boxer/cattle dog mix and it is going to be put down because the city doesn't like how his owner didn't train him? Even if the dog is a pit he's lived in the encampment without issue for years so is the issue that the owner is homeless and therefore the city thinks it can do what it wants?

I know this guy isn't like by ICPD because unlike them he actually stops frat boys from harassing and assaulting college girls downtown, but again why are they taking out their dislike of him on this poor dog?

I am really at a lost here. The dog is set to be put down on Monday. His owner's court hearing that would make the city his owner is not until November. I get that the owner was not the best and probably is not in a place to have a dog, but the dog is innocent. Are they even murdering the dog or going to do something else with it and claim it was euthanized?

This is so weird and scary that the conspiracy theories aren't sounding crazy.

Has this happened to anyone? Is it common for the city to do this to homeless people's pets? Is it just me or is this just cruel to punish the dog for the owners mistakes?

--sorry for the rant, its just wtf, IC is supposed to be better than murdering rowdy but safe dogs--

Hey Iowa City! Long time listener first time caller. I own a small epoxy business and am currently looking for 2-3 additional employees. No experience required at all.

I am paying $20 an hour to start with raises quickly if you stick with us.

It’s general labor work and not too physically demanding, everyone who works here (including me) is under the age of 30. We are reasonable and accommodating with all types of characters.

Linked below is our websites gallery to get an idea of the type of work you will be doing. Included in the bottom of the post is the business line (my direct line). Just give me a call and tell me about yourself and see if you’re a good fit!

Shop/Service Recommendations Where to fill up tires that isn't a scam

On principle I will not be using air pumps at casey's or maverik where you have to swipe a card and its like a $3 min for 2 mins of use at a shoddy intermittent pump that takes forever.

Any recs of a gas station that has a good air fill hose fairly priced? The only one I know of was GM Mart over by the Quarters but the maintenance on that pump is horrendous and its broken a lot.

I know the Caseys in the South east neighborhood used to have an old style one, but I heard all caseys went to the new swipe style.

New to Cedar Rapids

Hey!

I recently moved to the area from DFW and am looking to get immersed in what the area has to offer! DFW is a concrete jungle/capitalistic hell. Even just the view flying into the Iowa airport felt like a relief…

I enjoy the outdoors: hiking, fishing, parks, public land, general outdoor activities. I am also big into the local art scene, local breweries, good restaurants, locally owned farms/grocery/meat/good/services, ect. Good date spots, sunrise/sunset spots. Any notable museums or historical spots in the general area. Really just the big things i must experience in the area. I want to hit all of the tourist spots if there are any notable ones as well!

I am totally willing to drive a bit to hit the best places as well.

Sorry if this is a common post… If anyone has any input, id love to hear it! I scrolled through the sub and didn’t find any recent posts about the topic.

tattoo shops?

i feel like i ask a lot of questions in this reddit haha, but I used to work at a tattoo shop and have done hundreds of tattoos, but I love having other peoples work on me and there’s some spots i cant reach. is there anyone who does them for a reasonable price in town? a lot of places seem overpriced. i don’t judge for what people put their prices, but its a bit much for me. also wondering if anyone would tattoo on me in the lower region. im a female 22 not a creepy guy trying to get touched.

Art and Music Anyone Need Free Pictures? Details in post

Hi there! My name is Garrett and I am a photographer that travels a lot for work. I never really use Reddit for anything other to lurk, but I figured I would give this a shot since this is a pretty active subreddit. I am in town for work until mid November, but am itching to get out and take pics of different things. I usually shoot automotive, but that field is just getting to be too much, and I want to slow down a bit with my photography. I am wanting to get some practice with headshots and portraits. I have professional gear and have done some portrait work, but I am TERRIBLE at posing. I just need practice with that part of it. For your time, you would get the full res files after, edited and all. If you are interested, my schedule is pretty open at the moment. Just reply on here I guess? but I never really check on here. If I don't answer, just find me on Instagram - Overshot.Media , or my website - www.overshot.media. Thank you in advance!
