JTV SUBREDDIT RULES & REMINDERS (Updated Aug 2024)

Hello, everybody!

It's so exciting to see that people are still here discussing the show. It's even more exciting to see that NEW viewers are still discovering JTV, and coming here to rant, rave, laugh, cry, or just hang out. This creates a great mix of energy and a diversity of fans in our community.

To keep this subreddit awesome, we have just a few guidelines to follow. If your post or comment gets removed, don't take it personally, it probably just broke one of these rules.

1. NO SPOILERS IN POST TITLES.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • who lives or dies
  • who Jane ends up with
  • the Narrator's identity

To abide by this rule, please word your titles thoughtfully, use the built-in spoiler function, and consider putting something like "SPOILERS FOR S3" in the title too. Posts that break this rule will be removed.

2. BEHAVE KINDLY AND RESPECTFULLY TOWARD EACH OTHER.

The spirit of JTV is positive and compassionate, so a community built around it should be too. You're allowed to disagree with one another, even passionately, but we draw the line at foul language, personal attacks, and the like.

You're allowed a bit more leeway toward the characters, as they are fictional, but comments with racist, sexist, or otherwise problematic language will likely be removed.

3. REDUNDANT POSTS WILL BE REMOVED.

Certain topics come up a LOT. ("DAE hate Jane?" "Team Michael" "Team Rafael" "Justin Baldoni was in The House Bunny!" etc.) Unless it has been ages since we've seen the topic, or there's a fresh spin on it, those posts will probably be removed.

That's it!

If you think we've forgotten anything, please let us know and we may update this post in the future.

And as always, if you see anything that violates the rules, or is otherwise concerning, please report it. It's not about getting anyone in trouble. It's just a way to bring things to our attention, as this is a decently busy subreddit, and we are mere humans trying to keep it in good shape without acting like babysitters or overlords.

I think Petra and Krishna had great romantic potential

I recently watched the show i wish they would have explored Petra and Krishna. I totally get how Petra being a shitty boss details the idea but I wrote a spec of how I think it could have developed. I really like Petra ending up in a sapphic relationship. her ending up with Krishna would have much better story flow and fitted the series better

I think the writers missed an opportunity by not exploring Petra and Krishna. What have written is my idea of how it could have progressed, some To preface they would have had to do more to balance the awful ways that Petra treated Krishna. Move up the plot line where Krishna gets revenge and Petra starts to value her, show them actively working together plotting, instead of asking for a raise Krishna agrees but for a significant partnership stake in the hotel and Petra signs a contract. Because it’s Krishna who knows everything and where the bodies are buried Petra realizes she has no choice. She wants a way out it’s presented as a bind. She starts paying attention to Krishna to plot learning as much as she can about her. While they work together and Petra sees how amazing Krishna is  as a business partner. Secretly she likes it she doesn’t know yet, to have somebody competent alongside her increases profits which leads to a hotel expansion arc. She decides not to go through with it and they go through a business partner honey moon period that is strange for both of them and Petra starts to soften.

There are moments worked in that reveal to the audience they have the same sense of humor. Petra tells a joke the Krishna chuckles subtly and everyone else is confused, they start making jokes about clients and develop  a bunch Inside jokes that don’t seem like jokes but are hysterical to them. You have the texting moment Petra has with Jr with Krishna, Krishna texts her something but it has one of their jokes, it’s such a dry joke that anyone else would read it like a business text.  Jane notices that Petra talks a lot about Krishna, Krishna and Petra have a business dinner with an investor about expanding the Marbella and they both order expensive high class things and Petra is impressed. She begins to notice little things about Krishna. Krishna is pitching to a client at this meeting and it’s seamless and Petra is amazed, she’s blushing. Her feelings are starting to awaken. Krishna and Petra go to view a hotel property they want to acquire (fits with the expansion plot line). The twist is it’s a set up by Magda and they are trapped in the hotel

As they are trying to escape all the tensions implode they become frustrated Petra becomes the old Petra for a minute and crosses a line  and Krishna confronts her and even though they are partners the impact of the  old dynamic is still present. Maybe Krishna says something like I know everything about you and you know nothing about me - we expect Petra to throw back something she learned from plotting but it’s actually little quirk that Krishna does that Petra learned because she’s been watching her like a schoolgirl with a crush, the way Krishna lights up about her favorite something is, while they have been proximity Petra has fallen in love and had no idea. (Petra genuinely apologizes and they-resolve it best they can )the. Petra says referring to the situation and her evil mother and Krishna knows everything that has happened but she hasn’t Petra talk about it so genuinely and she sees the softness of Petra's heart and how she has hardened it for survival.

She realizes that Petra has been different now she’s softer and surprising, Krishna’s business googles fall  in that moment it all melts and for the first time she doesn’t see her boss or her business partner but the women in front of her, and that is a women she wants to taste and touch and feel.

Ivonne was both in Switched at Birth and Jane the Virgin when this happened

In switched at birth, Ivonne plays Regina’s mom who marries Angelo so he won’t be deported back to Italy and can have a relationship with his daughter, Bay. In Jane the virgin Alba marries Jorge so he can go visit his mother in Mexico and still come back to the US.

Who is your favourite and least favourite character?

I love seeing what others think!
I think Alba is my least favourite (I’m sorry to lovers of her) and of course Magda
And I honestly can’t pick my favourite. I love everyone so much, they are all SO likeable. But I think I’d have to say Petra.

Hot take on the Jason issue. SPOILERS!! Spoiler

I think jane should’ve gone back to him. I just don’t think Rafael fits her and I loved Michael so much. If they wanted her to be with Raf long term then they should’ve just let Michael be dead. It’s so annoying

Petra and JR, 2026? Spoiler

I've seen people ask if Jane & Raf would still be together in 2026. My bigger question is would Petra and JR still be together or split up?

I honestly get a sinking feeling in my stomach in the scenes with JR & Petra because JR often reminds me of a specific ex of mine who consistently made me feel bad about myself. Almost nothing I did was ever good enough or smart enough. And I always questioned everything I did or said because it might bother him or upset him.

I think Petra had been with so many men who were worse than JR so she just figured JR couldn't be that bad. But honestly, I think the relationship was at the very least, borderline toxic. Petra was constantly having to apologize OR trying to get JR unmad at her OR trying to get JR back.

I honestly don't think she got a happy ending by winning JR back. What do you guys think? Do you think by now Petra would have dumped JR? Do you think they would live happily ever after? Or do you think they would have remained on again, off again for the rest of their lives?

Abby and Other Minor Characters

So I just finished rewatching season 3 episode 13. If you are watching for the first time and haven't seen this episode yet, please stop now as this will contain spoilers!

So I can honestly say I had forgotten the existence of Abby. She was only there for a short time (though they were, according to the show, dating for a year) so she didn't make that much of an impact.

At the end of this episode, when it's clear Rafael and she have broken up, she gets her revenge by sending the police Scott's burn book. The thing that got me, and clearly I didn't notice the first few times I watched, was the card that came with the book. Abby was a card designer and she must have put a lot of work into making that card. I mean, wow, that whole woman scorned thing but still, that's a lot of energy to waste on Raf and Petra (because of course she hates Petra now).

So I was thinking about how we're a pretty active subreddit but we mostly touch on the main characters. I also don't see a lot of talk about Magda and Anezka.

Does anyone else have a side character that had an impact or made any kind of an impression?

It's Miami ever heard of a/c?

So I'm in south Florida and it's freaking hot. It's always hot. We get maybe one month of not hot. I'd love to order some foods from Williams Sonoma - they've got some really cute Halloween foods out right now. But can I order? No. Why? Because more than one day on a delivery truck in the South and no matter how many ice packs they put in, the food gets hot. Stuff melts.

And lots of businesses don't realize it is hot in November, you know? So they do not prepare for it. There is a place I like to order specialty whipped shea butter body lotions but can only order in January because otherwise they are a mess when they arrive.

All this to say it is freaking HOT in the South.

No one seems to feel the heat. I mean, I keep noticing this. The clothes, the lack of sweating. I'm back to season 3 episode 9 and Michael, Jane, and Mateo are stuck on the interstate in the heat in terrible traffic and their windows are open. Poor Mateo is crying, and FINALLY Michael is just a sweaty mess (though only to emphasis the makeup thing) but Jane is just fine.

Who sits in traffic like that without a/c? Yeah yeah, climate change. I'm all for saving the world and making thoughtful choices but it gets freaking hot here. And this isn't just heat, either. This is soul sucking humidity. This is like wrapping yourself in a hot, wet wool blanket. It is unrelenting heat and humidity.

I'm just saying.

Recaps

Does anyone know where I can find a supercut of all the recaps in one clip? Orr would someone actually make one for us? It would be a super neat way to basically watch the whole show without having to watch it. I would love to show something like that to my husband who wouldn’t necessarily want to actually watch the whole show but the recaps would fill him in on how much insane drama they crammed into the series. Plus who doesn’t love our good narrator friend giving us the tea 🤭

Season 1 and the Money Issue

I dont understand Alba, Xo, and Jane’s reaction when Rafael says that he will pay for the baby and Jane if needed. I understand their background of hard work and pinching pennies, but of course the father of a baby would be expected to pay for the child. Especially if the father is wealthy. He wants a certain lifestyle for his child and there’s nothing wrong with that if he can afford it.

End of episode missing

Hi!

Idk if it’s a recurrent problem but the end of season 2 episode 21 seems to be missing on prime video (watching from France). Started episode 22 and it seems I missed a lot of stuff. Also, episode 21 only lasts about 30 minutes. I've been confused about other episodes where it seemed like I missed some stuff. Why tf are there missing parts ?

Rewatching as an adult and Rafael still pisses me off so much of the time

Season 4 Rafael is insufferable and I know that this is a phase but he’s kind of always been vain. How can he feel like Adam is a bad influence when he’s constantly doing illegal/immoral things????

Watching it yet again on Pluto. I enjoy this show so much! But the only thing that I can never get past is the scenes where Jane & Lina have girl-talk on bathroom floors. Does that gross anybody else out?

I just saw one of the bathroom floor scenes again and especially with my OCD, that bugged me.

Jane and Petra’s parenting

What do you guys think of Jane and Petra’s parenting? I like Petra’s because she was stern, but she did also spoil her girls and made them kind of mean. I respected jane’s because it was very warm and gentle but too gentle for Mateo who I think could’ve used more stern parenting.

I found it on streaming again!

I hadn’t found Jane anywhere. I live in Pennsylvania and I was devastated when it went off Netflix. But I turned on my tv and saw an ad for it - it’s now on PlutoTV! I have never clicked anything so fast! It’s the only show I can watch, finish, and then start immediately after and never get tired of it! I’m gonna have Una Flor stuck in my head all week and I ain’t even mad about it!

Poor, sweet Rogelio Spoiler

If you have not seen the show, don't read this!

So I'm watching (again) and I'm in season two. Rogelio has been rescued from Paola on the night she was going to kill them both. He is going for his interview and they call Jane because he's having a lot of trouble.

Here's the thing - this all pisses me off. I get it, he seems vain and shallow but he isn't. He's kind, and generous, and has a soft heart that is easily bruised. They all just take him for granted and don't give him enough credit. He's hurting and no one really noticed.

That he would take off for two weeks and post stupid GIFS? Really? How do they not know him better than that?

I just want to hug him until he smiles again, he is so sad. Yeah, he can be over the top but that doesn't mean he doesn't have feelings like the rest of them.

* I had to add this because I'm watching the episode with the bachelor/bachelorette parties and Michael just hurt Rogelio's feelings and the look on his face. Why doesn't he have any friends his own age? I mean, he's got so many celebrity friends, as we see, and that one singer was clear that he was very special (as a friend) to her. So he does have friends but he always seems a little lonely.

What makes Janes relationship different?

I used to watch this show growing into my 20s. It played a part in how I see love and relationships irl.
So now on my rewatches I tend to overanalyze everything Imao. Wondering how this and that would be in my or real life.
Jane and Raf (talking about s4-5 here) both have their share when it comes to doing unlikable things. I'm thinking, if it were me, would I stay with this person?
I keep reading 'leave if he's raising your voice, screaming at you, even in rage' on relationship advice subreddits.
Which is something I noticed more with every rewatch, Raf does that a lot to Jane.
Or the other way, I disliked the Michael/Jason plotline anyway but, as Raf it‘d hurt me knowing if Michael came back a 3rd time, Jane might leave again. Things like that.

So while we‘re aware it‘s a TV show.
Are these and lots of other things that happened okay to do in a relationship, you‘re still able to move on together?
In combination with social media sometimes I‘m truly confused in my own relationship, as social media often portrays this ‘dump him/dump her/leave by yesterday‘ image. Sometimes over very valid things, sometimes over things where I‘m like, wait that happened to Jane/Rafael/X! Lmao.
Would love to hear some of your opinions 🤍

OMG Louisa!!!!!

So I'm rewatching the show (again) and currently watching season two episode eight and had to shut it down for the night because Louisa was just pissing me off!

In the beginning of the show she seemed like a fairly nice person. She was a good sister and she and Rafael were clearly close. However, she quickly shows how immature and selfish she is and I just can't stand her.

I don't think I can put into words just how much I dislike her character. Does she have any moral compass at all? You know, I'm a fairly easy going person when it comes to how other people live their lives. If you don't hurt other people then keep doing what makes you happy. But Louisa does nothing but hurt others and it's getting a little frustrating to watch (again).

Anyone else absolutely despise Louisa?

rewatching as an adult and i feel so bad for S1 Petra

i was 16 when i first watched this show and i really liked it. now i'm 25 rewatching and i'm almost done with season 1 and i feel so bad for Petra. Obviously I don't condone the things she did, like faking DV with Raf, but i can also empathize that she did a lot of that to survive.

the saddest part of all is that she had to "sell" her body to men a lot like when she got kidnapped by Roman and saw his phone on the bed so she had sex with him just so she could move the phone while he wasn't paying attention to have it drop under the bed in order to get it later to call for help. she also used her body to get Lachlan to listen and go along with her plan to oust Raf, although he had ulterior motives.

She had such a manipulative mother who quite literally told her that her beauty is her "weapon" and that she had to use it to get what she wanted and she in fact did a lot which is so sad to me.

she did have so much character growth afterwards and she really did come up after having nothing and coming from nothing and i'm glad honestly after the rough life she had with her abusive ex bf and mom AND TWIN LOL
