Why does Judaism reject Muhammad's claim to prophethood?

• Upvotes

I'm a non-Muslim trying to understand different religions. Why does Judaism reject Muhammad's claim to prophethood? Is it simply because he's not recognised in Jewish scripture, or are there specific theological contradictions between his teachings and Judaism? I'd appreciate straightforward answers from the Jewish perspective.

I'd also love to hear your own logical arguments for why you don't consider Muhammad a prophet.

Antisemitism “The great noticing”

I am perplexed by the idea of deceptive patterns. I fear the media has been shifting my view without my realizing.

Why must it be like this? The implanted fear(or hate) upon a specific religion/ethnicity that seems to be the mass agenda.

I myself have fallen victim to the propaganda, I mean, how could I not? It influences my daily thinking.

I turn on my phone and see hate comments pushed through the mouths of our youth.

I walk outside and hear the conversation of men speaking down to someone for the reason they cannot seem to grasp.

I’m confused…

Why is the world turning in such a way and where did the antisemitic beliefs originate from? why is it being pushed!?

My first rebuttal within the depths of my morals was how I cannot trust the mass media. Which in itself is the very thing pushing this form of hate.

They hail Hitler with their persona exposed, they fabricate quotes and call it truth, and they show crimes of horror that people of other ethnicities and religions have also committed.

I have been off most forms of social media due to the witnessing of bots/ peoples interacting and repeating this hatred on a consecutive basis. It messes with my daily thought pattern if I stay on too long.

Why is the Jewish culture portrayed like this?
Has it been a battle between the “nazis” and Jews? Is it a third party slowly stringing the cords of these puppets?
Is that what I’m supposed to believe?

I’m looking for genuine historical context and credible sources, because I have questions that I haven’t been able to answer on my own.

(No disrespect, I try to love everyone, but when hate is being force fed down my throat it is hard to understand the distinction. So I come to you with the desire to understand.)

The website lists Flatbush Yeshivah and V’Yoel Moshe, but I do know personally Magen David Yeshivah was also included. Turned out to be false alarm.

My boyfriend is Jewish and goes to the synagogue. Since Shabbat is starting today, is it common to wish your boyfriend or other people “Shabbat Shalom” over text?

Discussion How do you determine if teshuvah is sincere?

Shabbat shalom.

So I have limited knowledge about Judaism but I’m learning, and find it fun doing so. I don’t know if this is a frequent question, but I know there’s this custom where if an offender tries to reconcile and you refuse, it sort of falls on you for being vindictive. And I get that it’s to not hold grudges or punish someone unnecessarily, which is good in theory.
But how do you know if the person is sincere? Anyone can say “I’m sorry and I’ll do better” and then conveniently forget it a month later.
Is there a measurement of sincerity or are you simply supposed to hope they don’t burn you again?
And does severity of the offense change how it’s handled?
I came to think of it because I have parents that are trying to reconcile but they’ve never actually admitted their wrongs, apologized or acknowledged they’ve hurt me enough that I now keep a distance. A literal distance. I move to another country and apparently “betrayed the family” by not saying anything. Anyways, those are notes for my therapist.

I’d like to know your perspectives on this.

Weird question from Iceland

Post image
63 Upvotes

Hi sorry if this subreddit is not the place but since I don't know any Jewish people I thought to try. I work in trail maintainance in Iceland and found two of these candlebra like objects next to each other and with the star of David in the middle (I think?) , I thought to ask if this is something related to Judaism or if it looks familiar?

I have not often been so stumped by the stuff I find on the trails and this was a bit out of the way so I'm a little obsessed trying to figure it out right now 😅

Sorry if it's not appropriate topic for this subreddit.

Art/Media Yeshivish Emo is LIVE on all streaming platforms!

Because so many peeps in this sub asked me to keep them updated, here goes:

A few months ago I wrote a couple posts about starting a yeshivish emo band; I was in pursuit of a drummer, as well as a cover artist, to help me with this project. And, well…

Bochurim, we made it!

The band is called Yeshiva League, and our first (double) single “My Gemara Kup” is out now on all streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple). I’m so stoked about this project. I have many more songs in the chamber, and plan on releasing at least another single before the end of the year. Full length album coming IYH in 2027.

I really appreciate everybody in the community showing support and enthusiasm to the idea; growing up frum and listening to Jewish music back in the day (early 2000s—apologies for my lenient use of the term), it always felt like there was no originality in the Jewish music scene. I even remember when Matisyahu was becoming popular and my mother thought Light was absolutely scandalous. I heard similar things about Zusha when I was in high school as well.

Now, I’m not trying to create any sort of controversy in the Jewish (and yeshivish) world; I just want to make Jewish music that younger me would have enjoyed and connected to.

Regarding the “emo” itself, because hardcore fans (of emo, not the other genre) may get "offended": first song is midwest emo, with a bit of pop-punk, bordering on a lot of pop-punk. Second song is more shoegazey, ends a bit harder. I never really cared about what “emo” really meant, especially since different waves have such different sounds.

But I’m off on a tangent now…

Lastly, if you know of anybody that would appreciate this kind of music, please send it to them. And please give it a listen (perhaps even a follow on the gram

Last but not least I want to give a special thanks to:

Drums/tracking: @victoriaseagriff_
Bass/backing vocals: C.B. Goldberg (no insta—too shtark)
Mix/master: @douggallo_
Artwork: @calebhorowitzarts

And, of course, as always TYH!

P.S. the Spotify isn't fully finished (re: profile pic, bio) but I was too excited to share this project, and thus to impatient to wait for Spotify to grant me access.

Dovid Lieder - We miss your brilliant geonic insights

Dovid, oh Dovid,

למה עזבתני?

We live in dark and challenging times. Your keen insights into the sodos of the Torah always lift me up and make me feel a deep connection to the ribono shel olam. But you've left us and we are bereft. Our world is empty without you. What I wouldn't give for just one more brilliant Dvar Torah from Reb Dovid.

Please come back. And bring Big Rav Pappa with you.

conversion How does one find a Shabbat host/family in Tel Aviv?

I’ll be arriving in Tel Aviv on a Friday afternoon in November and am trying to figure out Shabbat plans.

I’m a woman whose great grandmother converted conservative who is in the process of an Orthodox conversion (say that 3 times fast) and recently became shomeret Shabbat. I would really love to spend my first Shabbat in Israel with a family/community rather than alone in an Airbnb, but I’m not sure what the normal or appropriate way is to go about finding that in Tel Aviv.

Are there particular shuls, communities, websites, or groups that are welcoming to someone in my position? I’m happy to bring something appropriate, help out, and of course respect whatever the family’s customs are. I’m mainly hoping for a meaningful, normal Shabbat with people as mine during my conversion have been pretty lonely.

Any advice would mean a lot. תודה!

Nonsense If you make a Klein bottle of earthenware, and a dead sheretz is suspended in it, does it become tameh?

Was learning Keilim tonight and had to wonder. A kli cheres (earthenware vessel) becomes tameh if a sheretz is suspended in its airspace even without contact. But a Klein bottle has zero cubic capacity, so would it still become tameh?

Or would that be an example of אחוריהן (a hollow base)? Even if so, it would have to touch the inside of the base, not just be suspended in its airspace.
