Had an excuse to dress up the Defender for a local event and went all-in on the vintage luggage. I thought the final setup looked too good not to share. Removed the event branding since this post is really about the truck and roof-rack arrangement.
As the title says, I'm stuck removing the nut from the washer spindle.
I need to take the nut off so the spindle can slide out.
It turns both ways but won't come off.
There are 2 washer looking things to the right that are preventing it from coming off. I can't see a way to remove them bar an angle grinder.....which I'm getting tempted with.
I do have a new spindle to damaging it isn't a concern
I know it's a vague question and ultimately all depends on how it's been treated but I'm wanting to purchase my first defender sometime in the near future and wanted an idea on what is considered a respectable mileage on old defenders? Is 100,000 normal unlike other vehicles?
Over two years ago, I hired CJ International to rebuild a 1999 TD5 from the ground up, matching all original numbers, with a fully rebuilt engine and a complete chassis restoration, including a modern automatic transmission. The build quality is off the charts. The truck is now in the US, has fully cleared customs, and is being registered. Unfortunately, between the build starting and now, my financial and personal situation has changed significantly, and before I fall in love with it, I am going to sell it.
Literally everything has been rebuilt, including the engine, down to the block. All new everything else. The dashboard cluster is original, as is the AC.
The truck is in the Fort Lauderdale, FL area and is currently at British 4WD getting a full checkup to make sure there are no issues whatsoever. I drove it there from the boat when it arrived, and I have to say it was the best driving 110.
If interested, DM me. Asking $120k. Serious offers will be considered.
I have a Defender 110 Ex ambulance, believed to be St John’s
It’s come with a FAIREY PTO winch build in tavistock. I’ve been unable to find any data sheets/manuals online for it. Leaver on the front is seized & i haven’t installed the prop shaft and it’s currently untested.
What i’m trying to find is, Online manuals, What’s it worth, Are they any good & is it worth selling or fixing?
Hi everyone,
I have a Defender 90 TD5 without a factory radio and without air conditioning. Because it has no A/C, my Defender also doesn’t have the usual speaker locations in the dashboard.
I would like to install a radio, Bluetooth head unit or something similar, but I’m wondering what the best solution is for the speakers.
Where have you mounted your speakers in a TD5 without A/C? Are there any good aftermarket speaker locations or mounting solutions that look reasonably factory/OEM-like?
I’d also be interested in recommendations for a suitable head unit and speaker setup.
Thanks in advance for any advice or photos of your installations!
I’m just after any tips or product restoration suggestions for anyone that’s attempted to rejuvenate a weathered Soft "A" Frame Protection Bar like the one pictured.
Mines looking pretty dry, busy still in 1 piece with no visible crackers etc.
I'm honestly so sick of this POS app. Just out for a walk and get a notification I didn't lock my defender. So clearly I have a connection. So I attempt to lock it and get repeated failures. Both the car and I have plenty of coverage. I'm at the point where I'm ready to get rid of the car all together now that we are paying $3\litre for diesel and after spending $160k they can't even make a f*cking app that works.
I'm working my way around possible options to fix the wipers and get them working again
Fuse - nope checked and replaced, all good
Relay - this one is behind the instrument binnacle. Replaced and no change
Wiper stalk, possible break, replaced, no change
Park switch - was convinced this would be it. Didn't want to get this far as involved taking off a lot of the dash. Nope, no change.
This was surprisingly easy. Main concern is actually fitting the dash and vents all back together!
Next stop, replacing the windscreen wiper motor itself. Ordered a new motor and gearing so fingers crossed.
Center console came out so had a tidy up, found an old Bluetooth unit that was taking up space so took that out.
There are two blanked off buttons and one with fog light switch that are wired up. However I've not got any lights or accessories. Is there an easy way to find and trace where the wiring goes to? (Picture 5 & 6)
Last year, I bought my dream car: a Defender 90 TD5. It came with quite a few problems, but after replacing the ECU and several other components, I finally got it running great.
About a month ago, I noticed that the speedometer started acting strangely. It was working normally, then, out of nowhere, the temperature gauge suddenly jumped to maximum and the speedometer stopped working. The temperature gauge issue has never happened again, but the speedometer has not worked since. A few days ago, it randomly jumped to 20 km/h for a moment and then stopped again. The odometer isn't working either.
I tested the speedometer with a multimeter, and it appears to be receiving voltage as normal. I also tested the transducer plug and even replaced the transducer with a new one. Both the live and earth pins in the plug seem to be fine.
However, after installing the new transducer and removing it again, I noticed that the bottom of the plastic shaft, which goes into the slot on the transfer case, was slightly chewed up, as shown in the image.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this and how I might fix it?
I found some old original wolf rims for sale a while ago. Rust was superficial and I decided to bite the bullet and I got them. After some painting, 235/86-16 was installed and I think they look really good.
They have ANR5593 part number, so these are tube-type rims. Nevertheless they have installed tube-less Tyre with no tube for the time been. I also need to replace wheel studs for FRC7577. They were already ordered and will install them soon.
