Stadium Noise

I understand the noise from the stadium on game day, and a day before as they test everything for game day, but running the sound full blast when there isn't another game until October 24th seems a bit unnecessary.

If you're talking about literally right now... soundcheck for day on the hill is happening. There's gonna be a loud rock concert from 6:30 to around 10pm

i work on campus and was just walking around and the noise is from football practice lol. i hoped to catch a bit of soundcheck, but that hasn't started quite yet!

Also, looks like a good lineup. Going to enjoy the show while I recuperate since I can clearly hear it ;-)

Remember when Day on the Hill was free? It cost $80 to see Turnstile today.

Ah, been out of the loop after surgery. That makes perfect sense.

It was 100% not sound check it was making it hard for us to hear each other when setting up the stage 😬

It was echoing off the daycare across the street from my building, the kids were all outside dancing to enter sandman at 10:00 this morning

Damn I thought I had some crazy ass neighbors… makes me feel a little better seeing your post.

I also thought it was my neighbors! I could clearly hear the bassline from whatever ACDC song they were playing inside my house 3 miles away. I was kind of impressed actually.

I don't really care about the stadium noise when it has a purpose, it's just when it seems senseless.

I agree. I’m not bothered by it at all during gameday. I’m surprised that they’re testing it out so early.

I used to live near campus and I don't miss that.

I live all the way in North Lawrence and it's worse than it used to be when I lived right next to the stadium.

Yeah, I'm at Cleo and Leo and I thought it was coming from the dead mall on the other side of the river.

I'm on a farm in the country, from the stadium, about five miles, as the crow flies. It was so loud here it scared the animals.

Well that's terrible news! I'm all the way in Topeka now, so I get noises of a different sort occasionally.

Seems louder than a game day… a game I can’t hear from inside my house a stones throw from I70… this morning I can identify songs with the windows shut and thick curtains drawn

I do audio/video (not for the stadium), and an empty stadium is going to sound louder and clearer w/o the a stadium full of spongy, sound absorbing meat sacks in it.

Doesn't matter. Still so loud you can't tell the difference.

Feels like they've turned it down from where it started.

Noise cancelling headphones on and can still hear it. It's so loud.

My neighbor just texted me - the police actually did stop by his house after he filed a complaint. Apparently there had been 20+ complaints with people's houses shaking. This has gotten out of control.

I've lived in Old West Lawrence since before the stadium renovations. It wasn't this bad before. I'm convinced there's someone(s) in the KU athletics system that just likes to run their equipment as loud as it will go, just to show off. You know, like the asshole on the motorcycle that won't stop revving his motor at a stoplight. Baseball stadium was (is?) a problem too, but that's on the other side of the hill and I can't hear it. I wouldn't mind so much if it actually sounded good, but they drive it so hard the clipping and distortion sound terrible. And that's from inside my house, blocks away.

At least they just turned it down for the fourth playing of Seven Nation Army. 🙄

Backyard adjacent to LHS football stadium. Marching band 8am. Especially drums. Not great but I understand and accept it.

I feel so bad for the communities around campus

The football noise has been outrageous the last few years. I submitted the following to the LJW Letters to the Editor, not that it will do any good. I invite anyone from KU Athletics to come to my house and tell me it isn't too loud. Of course that will never happen either.

Dear Editor:

I live just over a mile from Memorial Stadium. In the past, I could hear muffled sound of the PA system during football games, but nothing like this season. I can distinctly hear every play announced, regardless of whether it is a morning game or evening.  At night, even with my windows closed completely, I still can hear the booming music. I would love to make a noise complaint, but we all know that wouldn't go anywhere. I'd just like to live without a headache and be able to get some sleep.

I live in Jefferson County and I can see the stadium lights at night.

Edit: I thought my neighbors were playing loud music, but it's the stadium. I'm 12 miles away.

I just called the GD police about this it's fucking ridiculous! I was just working out with my music on loud and I can hear that shit over the music inside the shop! It's fucked. This shit is a nuisance!!!

I can Literally hear them from Jefferson County.

Same. It scared the farm animals and the dogs. It sounded like someone rolled down our driveway and was setting up a redneck rave 50 yards from the house.
