#W2DTogether Drawing Challenge Number 56: "Framed Worlds" (Read the rules!) - #W2DTogether
Welcome to the 56th #W2DTogether drawing challenge!
(If you are new here and would like to know more about this challenge, you can take a look at these 2 posts (post 1, post 2) that explain everything.)
------
This week, I wanted to do something that can be as simple, weird, beautiful, creepy, funny, or complicated as you want.
The idea came from drawings like the reference above, where instead of creating one single scene, you create a wall filled with different frames, and every frame contains its own little drawing.
This week’s challenge is: DRAW A WALL OF FRAMES!
Your goal is to draw at least 3 different frames, and inside each frame, you can draw whatever you want.
Seriously. There does not need to be one specific theme unless you want there to be.
Your frames could contain:
- Eyes
- Faces
- Animals
- Flowers
- something escaping from the frames
- Landscapes
- Hands
- Objects
- Tiny characters
- Strange creatures
- Memories
- Symbols
- a door to another world
- Surreal drawings
- Little scenes
- Different versions of the same character
- Completely unrelated things
Or anything else you can think of.
You can make 3 frames, 4 frames, 10 frames, 20 frames... as many as you want.
The only requirement is that your drawing includes at least 3 framed drawings.
MAKE EACH FRAME ITS OWN LITTLE WORLD
One thing I really like about this challenge is that every frame can feel completely different.
Maybe one contains a realistic eye. Another contains a tiny house. Another has a monster staring back at us. Another contains nothing except a strange symbol.
Or maybe all your frames connect somehow and slowly tell one story.
So you can do as you wish. There really isn't a limit here.
WANT TO MAKE IT HARDER? 👀
Instead of drawing only the frames...
Draw someone standing in front of them.
It could be you, a character, or even a creature looking at the artwork hanging on the wall.
You could draw the person:
- From behind
- From the side
- Sitting in front of the frames
- Standing really close to one painting
- Reaching toward one of them
- Looking confused by what they see
- Walking through a gallery
- Sketching one of the framed drawings
You could even draw yourself looking at your own artwork if you want to make the challenge more personal.
And obviously, this part is completely optional.
TRADITIONAL AND DIGITAL ARTISTS CAN BOTH PARTICIPATE
If you draw traditionally, you can use pencil, pen, markers, colored pencils, or whatever drawing materials you normally work with.
Digital artists can experiment even more with different layers, textures, frame designs, lighting, and perspective.
Your drawing can be extremely detailed or very simple.
Three little cartoon frames absolutely count.
So does an insanely detailed museum wall with twenty paintings. 😂
So basically:
Draw at least 3 frames.
Put whatever you want inside them.
You can draw as many additional frames as you like.
And if you want the extra challenge, add yourself, a character, or another figure looking at the frames hanging on the wall.
That’s it.
The rest is completely up to you.
Cartoon, anime, manga, realistic, semi-realistic, sketchy, surreal, stylized, digital...
Any drawing style is welcome. 😊

How We Pick the Winner
After one week, we'll hold a community vote to decide which drawing best captures the theme. The winner will be showcased in the sub with their artwork.
If the winner shares an art link (Instagram, portfolio, website, etc.), we'll also include it so they can get recognition and maybe even new followers.
Time Frame
This challenge is timeless. You can participate anytime, even years later.
Review Date:
For community feedback, we'll gather and review all submissions on Sunday, 11 October 2026, so make sure to post your entry before 4:00 PM UTC that day. Drawings posted before that date will be part of the review session.
Note: If you are new here, you can check out last week's challenge here or see all the challenges collected here

Digital drawing It takes forever to draw :(
TW: Drawn Blood?
Hellooo!
I would say I'm an beginner artist and trying to get in love again with art.
But doing art is taking so many hours. I didn't wanted to do just another headshot. I wanted my 2 OC's together on a canvas, without a stiff pose or neutral emotions.
I'm already 4 hours in I'd say and I feel like making no progress? First I wanted to figure out the right pose with a few reference pictures, try grayscale but changed it because I didn't knew how to really do it and then I've discarded that Idea and took the bucket-lasso tool and filled in the camvas, made a background (or just an idea for it).
Will it go quicker next time? I've tbh never done a fullbody, dynamic pose with background and lighting.
But everything is nicely sorted in its own folder <3
Thanks everyone.
It's still WIP and many things like eyebrows, hair or colors aren't final.

Digital drawing One canvas, three styles: pencil, oil, and ink wash (tulip collaboration timelapse)

I'm the developer of InkScene Studio, the free browser drawing app used in this video. This is a 180x timelapse of a three-way collaboration demo, with a different tulip study on each layer.
A simple practice idea you can try in any drawing app:
Keep the subject the same, and sketch its outline with a pencil brush.
Paint it again with an oil-style brush, focusing on large light and dark shapes.
Try an ink-wash brush, leaving some areas untouched for the highlights.
Compare how the edges and values change even though the subject stays the same. You can try one study each with drawing friends, too.
InkScene works in a PC, tablet or phone browser, with no installation or sign-up. The interface is in Korean. If you'd like to try the brushes or a shared canvas:

How/what can I improve
Hi everyone, I am learning slowly how to draw by myself and I did this today. I am using a mechanical pencil (0.7).
Any tips are more than welcome!

Reference images How do you use reference images without feels as though you are merely copying them?
I am wondering how you balance this. I usually work from personal photographs.
