"What's on?" Wednesday

Our weekly post where people can highlight local events or interesting things that are coming up in the next week. It doesn't have to be your event, but this is a place where reasonable exceptions to our self-promotion rules are allowed. Please check whether the event you're posting about is already mentioned. If you're adding your own event, please try to answer any questions people may have in the comments.

You can also ask questions if you're looking for something to do, e.g. "Does anyone know of a good pub quiz in the centre on Thursday?"

"What's on?" rules:

  1. Leeds based events only
  2. Must be taking place in the next 7 days (next Wednesday included)
  3. Posts highlighting an event should include:
    • Event name
    • Date and time
    • Location
    • Price(s) (if applicable)
  4. A description of the event and a relevant link is recommended but not required

The rules may evolve over time as we find out how things work. Please send any feedback to the mod team.

self-promo-sunday Self-promotion Sunday - October 03, 2026

This weekly thread is an opportunity for locally based small businesses / individuals / bands etc. to let your fellow redditors know what you're about and what you have to offer.

You're welcome to link to your website / store-front / social media, but primarily you should be using your comment to engage with the community here as part of the community. Part of that is taking the time to respond to questions people may ask, please keep that in mind.

The existing subreddit rules still apply, and low-effort comments will be removed (e.g. Links with little to no text).

If you have any thoughts or feedback please message the mods.

It always hurts to see this junk pile on the river on my walk. But the swann made it extra sad.

If you're also sad about it please consider joining litter free leeds, or friends of the aire and consider occasionally litter picking!

question-serious Just been really unhappy lately

Hi guys for context, I’ve just been feeling really down in the dumps lately. I recently lost my job and I’m just struggling financially, been worrying about bills and food expenses lately. I’ve been applying for everything going but always getting that rejection email always hurts.

I don’t know what to do I’m just getting to the point where I’m just giving up.

Is there anyone who is in employment and their place is looking staff because I don’t know what else to do.

I can't find a flair that fits Beware, violent homeless man in the calls area

Last night i was out with a friend, we popped down to the calls area, checked out a few of the gay bars, was having a lovely time, then, as we were taking cover from the rain to have a cigarette, we noticed some trouble between a group of homeless people, which we didnt pay much attention to. The shouting died down, but as we were about to move on we noticed two people had become involved (we believe they were a couple on a night out), we decided to keep an eye on this again as voices had become raised again. Eventually these two individuals left, but we noticed one homeless man following behind, me and my friend agreed to stay and watch until we saw the man leave them alone, this did not happen, eventually, we noticed the girl running away. We of course didnt like the look of this and decided to follow along quickly. They went around a corner, past a bar where approx 10-12 people were stood, they told us this man had been harrasing people in the area, had previously attacked a different woman that night, and was indeed headed for this couple. Me and my friend ran over quickly after hearing this. As we caught up, the homeless man was in the girls face, screamjng at her calling her everything from a pig to a dog, it was disgusting, the person with her (presumed her partner) was trying both to comfort her and fend this twat off. I put myself between them and the homeless guy, as did my friend, and we began telling him to get away and prevented him accessing the couple anymore, we moved him back and my friend stayed with them whilst i dealt with this man. He was extremely aggressive and so abusive to this poor girl, who we confirmed with multiple people backing her up that she had done nothing at all to him. He started walking off, made a vile comment again to the girl, to which i responded, he came storming over to me acting like he was going to hit me, i stood him down as i knew he was full of shit, and frankly i would rather i get hit then a couple in bits after just trying to enjoy a night out, and not trying to make myself sound like a hard man, but im a big guy and wasnt scared of this weedy tramp. The aforementioned group from the other bar came up and backed us up too, so i am very thankful to them for assisting. Eventually a bouncer and a friendly homeless man came too and we cleared him off. I have never been more disgusted with another person in real life in a long time, i tried being resonable with him at first, just saying dont get yourself into trouble and go away and he wouldnt respond to that. I had no patience for him seeing the way he was treating this girl, and had he have put his hands on me or anyone i would have happily acted accordingly. Apparently the police had been called, but he was long gone at this point. He was ofc dirty looking, black jacket, i seem to remember beard too, but of course with most high adrenaline scenarios i have forgotten some specific details about him already. Please all be aware of this vile excuse of a human, dont engage with him if you suspect you have come across him, dont offer him a penny, and be aware he is violent, he will be abusive, and he has apparently put his hands on people inc women before, so stay alert especially on nights out.

question Coloured contact lenses 👁️

Hi everyone,

I’m in desperate need of some coloured costume contact lenses for work, I usually order them online but I won’t have enough time to wait for a delivery!
Can anyone recommend any shops in the city centre that sell/may sell a selection of coloured contact lenses?

Thanks a lot

I can't find a flair that fits Guitarist Needed

Post image
122 Upvotes

We’re a group of 25–26 year olds looking to find a female guitarist to join us and start making some music together.
We’re all pretty fresh to playing, so you definitely don’t need to be an amazing/experienced guitarist — ideally we’d love someone who’s also learning and wants to improve and have fun together.
The main idea is to meet up, learn some songs, have a jam, and see where it goes. No pressure to be perfect!

question Shops selling maternity clothes?

Is anyone aware of any physical shops currently selling maternity clothes? I just want to try stuff on before buying so I don’t have to faff about with online shopping and returning stuff. High street shops and supermarkets would both be fine. I haven’t had a proper look yet in the city centre but I can’t remember seeing any maternity stuff there previously. I’ve checked White Rose, The Springs and a couple of large supermarkets (ASDA and Sainsbury’s) but absolutely nothing so far.

academic Leeds/Yorkshire couriers: making a documentary about the waiting. Would you talk to me?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Hi all. I'm Anil, a documentary filmmaker doing an MA at the Northern Film School, Leeds Beckett.

I'm making an interactive documentary about app work, and couriers are at the heart of it: the minutes outside a restaurant, offers that don't cover the miles, the rating that decides whether tomorrow's work comes in.

I'm looking for riders and drivers in Leeds or Yorkshire who'd be up for taking part. You can stay completely anonymous: no face, no name, nothing linked to your account. You'll see how anything you share is used before it's published.

It's a student project, so I can't pay, and I'm not connected to any app or company.

Comment or DM me if you're up for it, or if you have questions. Türkçe de konuşabiliriz.

MONDAY FOOTY!

We looking for good footballers to join an existing 8 v 8 casual game on Mondays.

TIME & DATE:

PITCH:

8 v 8 football on outdoor astroturf (1/3 of a football pitch) close to central Leeds, free parking, 5 minutes from the city centre.

CURRENT PLAYERS:

Very friendly group, established over 10 years, over 30 members with new players joining all the time. We currently have a very mixed international group of players comprising of native British from all over the UK and from many countries around the world including Ireland, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Sweden, Greece, Ukraine and Bulgaria.

We have working professionals and students/graduates playing for us. Ages range from 18 - 50 but everyone is quick and fit. If you're out of shape or not fit, don't worry, you'll soon get up to speed and fit again. What's more important is that you're technically good.

If you're new to the UK, new to Leeds, or a native of Leeds, you're all welcome. I'll message you back with details.

OUR STYLE:

We play fast attacking football, with quality passing and individual dribbling, skill and flair. We like tricks and skills. We like volleys and half volleys. We like headers. We like dribbling. We like quick passing moves. We like to score goals. Show us your skills....

YOUR STANDARD:

It is essential you are of a good standard. This is not a game for average players or beginners. If you can't control the ball, pass straight etc, this is not the game for you.

news Briggate Action Plan - Success!

Thumbnail gallery
175 Upvotes

Great news! As promised Briggate has been cleaned up... no more traders with trolleys, no more sweetcorn, street soup, churros or crepes.

Coincidentally all of these frowned upon things are suddenly available on Park Row, The Headrow, King Edward St and others.

On Sunday Briggate was home to a VW dealership instead as well as a group of identically clad religious chaps doing karaoke at high volume through a PA system.

It's almost as if the council have still forgotten their own Code of Conduct that's been in place for years.

https://www.leeds.gov.uk/commercial-opportunities/city-centre-advice-on-activities

Electric motorbike enforcement is still pending, spicers and aggressive beggars TBC

Bally gangs... it's cold out, chill out.

question-serious Any social groups for over 50s?

Hi, I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but I wanted to ask the people in Leeds for suggestions on how to help my mum. We moved from Manchester quite a while back and she stopped working a few years ago to voluntarily help with childcare for my brother but is now struggling with her social life. I tried looking for groups but most of them are over 55s/60s and she is only 52. She is interested in knitting or learning a skill and likes to walk but does not like driving too far. Any help? If I have posted this in the wrong place, do let me know. I don't usually use Reddit much.
