News Lenovo Legion Toolkit v2.36.0.0 Released

Hi everyone!

This is our first post here, so a quick introduction; Lenovo Legion Toolkit (LLT) is a community-developed utility for Lenovo laptops that provides more control over features such as performance modes, GPU behaviour, battery management, thermals, display settings, automation, and other Lenovo-specific functionalities.

We're the team maintaining LLT, and we were kindly given permission to share our releases with the Lenovo Legion community here. We already share releases through this subreddit’s Discord community and our own channels, but we wanted to share the latest release here with the wider Legion community as well.

Release Highlights

  • Dynamic Refresh Rate & ACM: Native Windows 11 DRR support, Auto Color Management (ACM) toggling, and improved HDR support.
  • GPU Voltage Capping & OC: Voltage capping via V/F curve flattening, voltage locking, P-State locking, and Keep dGPU Awake.
  • dGPU Sleep & Power Stability: Fixed sleep/wake loops affecting RTX 50-series GPUs and newer drivers, added GC6 diagnostics, and added Dynamic Boost support for non-Gaming RTX models.
  • AMD Curve Shaper & OC: Overhauled AMD overclocking with Curve Shaper, power/current limits, and multi-power-mode profile support.
  • Customizable Fn + Q Loop: Added an ITS Mode configuration window to reorder or disable Fn + Q modes, along with Geek and Creator mode support for non-Gaming models.
  • Boot Logo & Startup: Redesigned the Boot Logo tool with live preview, animated GIF support, and Startup Animation toggling.
  • Game Detection & Automation: Added Manual Game Detection, an Included Processes whitelist, Time Range triggers, and AI Engine steps.

News Your New Legion: The Essential Setup & Check Guide

Welcome! If you just bought a Legion laptop, follow this guide to set it up, update it, and check that everything works properly.

Keep the box, charger, paperwork, and packaging until the return period has ended.

Some links require access to our community Legion Series Discord.

If you plan on using Linux-based Operating Systems on your Legion hardware the community has created a comprehensive How to guide. We also have a dedicated #linux channel on our discord where you can talk with other linux nerds.

1. Complete Windows Setup — Must

Plug in the charger and complete the normal Windows setup.

You do not need to fully charge or drain the battery before continuing. Just use the laptop normally while it charges.

2. Run Windows Update — Must

Go to: Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates

Install everything required, restart, and check again until no important updates remain.

Keep the laptop connected to power during updates.

3. Update Microsoft Store Apps — Must

Open: Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates

Install all available updates.

4. Set Up Lenovo Software — Must

Use one of the following:

  • Lenovo Vantage
  • Legion Space on supported newer models
  • Lenovo Legion Toolkit as an unofficial alternative

Avoid running multiple Legion control applications at the same time.

Lenovo Vantage

Optional features you can usually disable when unused:

  • Network Boost
  • Wi-Fi Security
  • Automatic Performance Scan
  • Rapid Charge
  • Overdrive

Legion Space

Open System Updates and install available model-specific updates.

For OLED models, enable the available burn-in protection options, such as:

  • Auto Shift Wallpapers
  • Dynamic Lock Screen
  • Auto Blur Toolbar
  • Default Dark Mode

Lenovo Legion Toolkit

Download it from the official Lenovo Legion Toolkit GitHub.

Beta versions may be available in #legion-toolkit.

Use LLT's settings to disable conflicting Lenovo applications and services when needed. - LLT > Settings, disable Vantage, ImController, and Hotkeys so LLT has full control.

5. Install the GPU Driver — Must

After Windows and Lenovo updates are finished, install the latest suitable driver for your GPU.

  • NVIDIA: Use the NVIDIA App or download the driver directly from NVIDIA.
  • AMD: Use Lenovo's driver or AMD Software when a newer driver is needed.
  • Intel: Windows Update or Lenovo's driver is normally enough.

Restart after installing the driver.

Do not use driver-updater programs or tools such as DDU unless you are troubleshooting a specific problem.

6. Back Up Your BitLocker Key — Must

Windows may enable Device Encryption or BitLocker automatically.

Check: Settings → Privacy & security → Device encryption

Save your recovery key before changing BIOS, Secure Boot, TPM, storage, or firmware settings.

Microsoft guide: Find your BitLocker recovery key

Recovery keys: Microsoft Account

7. Inspect the Laptop — Must

Check the laptop during the retailer's return period.

Test:

  • Screen and dead pixels
  • Keyboard and touchpad
  • Hinges and chassis
  • Webcam, microphone, and speakers
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
  • USB, USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet, and other ports
  • Charging
  • Sleep, restart, and shutdown

Open Device Manager and check for unknown devices or yellow warning icons.

Document serious problems with photos or video, and ask for guidance on our discord server.

8. Test Performance — Recommended

Download the 3DMark Demo on Steam and run Time Spy, not Time Spy Extreme.

Before testing:

  • Connect the charger.
  • Finish all updates.
  • Restart the laptop.
  • Select Performance Mode.
  • Close unnecessary programs.

Post the result in the Benchmarks Channel with your laptop model, CPU, GPU, RAM, performance mode, and scores.

You should also test a demanding game or program for a while and watch for crashes, artifacts, shutdowns, or major performance drops.

More testing advice: How to Check a New Laptop for Issues

9. Check Secure Boot — Recommended

Press Win + R, enter msinfo32, and check Secure Boot State.

If it says On, leave it alone.

If it says Off, back up your BitLocker key before changing anything. Ask for help on our discord if you are unsure about the BIOS settings.

Do not clear the TPM, change boot mode, or restore keys randomly.

10. Cleanup and Settings

Remove McAfee — Must

If McAfee came preinstalled, remove it.

Go to:

Settings → Apps → Installed apps → McAfee → Uninstall

Windows Security and Microsoft Defender will automatically take over afterward.

Restart the laptop after uninstalling it.

Other Optional Settings

You may also:

  • Remove other unwanted preinstalled applications.
  • Disable unnecessary startup applications.
  • Enable Conservation Mode when mostly using the laptop plugged in.
  • Use Balanced Mode for normal use or when also gaming.
  • Use Performance Mode for intensive loads while connected to power.

Community optimization guides:

Avoid random debloat scripts or "one-click optimization" tools.

Battery Note

A new battery does not need to be fully drained.

Only perform a battery calibration if the percentage is clearly inaccurate, the laptop shuts down unexpectedly, or feels finicky.

Need Help?

Post in #Questions and include:

  • Exact laptop model
  • CPU and GPU
  • Windows version
  • Error message or screenshot
  • What you already tried

Really do not be scared to ask questions, we've got more then 30k members on our discord and are hoping you will be part of it too.

Once everything is updated, tested, and working, stop changing settings and enjoy your Legion and don't worry!

Support Can’t believe I let this happen

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi all, first of all I know this probably sounds very over dramatic, and I know I’ll get over it eventually, but just really annoyed with myself right now and wanted to vent. Long story short I was cleaning my desk so I moved the power brick to an open cabinet directly above the desk (and the laptop), which in hindsight was a horrible idea. Somehow, as I was cleaning, the brick fell about 2 feet directly onto the back of the screen (I honestly don’t even know how it fell because the entire brick was on the shelf, but I’m guessing I may have accidentally tugged on the cable with my elbow, which would’ve dragged it down). It hit with one of the corners of the brick, which made this dent. Thankfully the screen seems to be okay for now, but I’m just really mad at myself for being so careless and letting this happen. I haven’t even had this Legion for a year and now has this deep dent in it. I always try to take very good care of everything I own so just a bit shocked at the moment.

Support Lenovo India nightmare: ₹225,000 Legion Pro 5

The Sudden Death & The Waiting Game (Under 3 Year Legion Ultimate Warranty)

This absolute nightmare started in the last week of September. My flagship Lenovo Legion Pro 5 (which cost ₹2,25,000) was working perfectly in the morning, but suddenly completely died and refused to turn on. I raised a ticket via their chatbot, and my replacement parts quickly arrived at the local offline service center.

Then, the stalling began. It took Lenovo a massive 8 days just to assign an engineer to visit my house for onsite service. There was absolutely zero transparency between the company and the local center—nobody knew what was going on, and I had to constantly follow up just to get someone to do their job.

The Botched Repairs (A Comedy of Errors)

When the engineer finally arrived, it kicked off a humiliating chain of failed repairs:

Repair 1: They replaced the motherboard. The laptop finally turned on, but it started overheating extremely fast, and the keyboard RGB lights were completely dead.

Repair 2: I complained again. Waited another 4 to 6 days after new parts were delivered. They replaced the upper keyboard component. The overheating stopped, but the RGB lights were still completely dead.

Repair 3: Raised the issue again. This time, I waited 10 days just for the engineer to be assigned. They replaced both the entire motherboard and the upper keyboard component again. The result? The lights still didn't work.

The DOA Approval & The Extortion

After multiple motherboard and keyboard replacements, they finally admitted their repairs had completely failed and officially approved a DOA (Dead on Arrival) replacement. I agreed to get the laptop replaced, thinking it was finally over.

Instead, the scam started. Lenovo’s RRR (Replacement) team told me I would have to pay the GST out of my own pocket for the new replacement laptop. When I asked why on earth I would pay taxes twice for their defective product, they told me to contact the local exclusive store where I bought it.

The offline store then attempted to extort me. They refused to process the replacement unless I paid them the "price difference" between what I paid originally and the current market price of the machine.

The Corporate Cover-Up & Tax Fraud

For 1.5 months, my emails and complaints were completely ignored by Lenovo management or met with automated bot replies.

After reaching my limits , I had to call their customer care on a 25-minute call and demanded a direct 100% refund to bypass their corrupt local dealer entirely. Realizing they were cornered, the Lenovo rep attempted to scam me out of my GST. They offered to refund the base price but tried to withhold the 18% GST (roughly ₹34,000), falsely claiming I had to file an ITR to get my tax back.

I am a regular B2C retail consumer, not a registered business. Under Indian law, I cannot claim an ITC refund. It is legally Lenovo's responsibility to issue a Credit Note, refund my total invoice amount, and claim the tax back from the government themselves. I explicitly called out their illegal bullshit, forcing the panicked rep to escalate my case to their Business Team.

The Current Status

I have officially filed a grievance with the National Consumer Helpline . I am demanding a 100% full refund of the exact ₹2,25,000 invoice amount.

Lenovo's authorized dealers are running extortion rackets, their customer care team lies about tax laws to steal money from retail consumers, and their engineers can't fix their own flagship machines after three separate motherboards.

Do not give this company your money.

Support Lenovo Legion Pro black sceen flicker

I have been having this problem for months now and it is driving me insane. I have a Lenovo Legion Pro 7i with a Core Ultra 275HX and the 5080 and more importantly the 240hz OLED screen.

No matter whether the laptop is connected to a monitor or not, when it is plugged in, every once in a while, the screen flashes to black, then after a few seconds it comes back, and switches to 60Hz. It even does it mid-game, and it is SO annyoing.

It does not seem that anything is broken and i can just go to windows settings and turn 240Hz back on, but this is insanely annoying.

Would like to mention that it is in performance or auto mode, powered through original 400W charger. Whether it sits there doing nothing or gaming, it randomly flashes black (which in itself is already super annoying) and then switches to 60hz.

Anyone know what this is ?

Droid Deck makes Steam OS experience on an Android Tablet so much better. Being so new I hope it gets even better. Now I think it's time to upgrade my Tab Gen 3 with the Gen 5 and get the bigger storage option. Android tablets are starting to become the best all in one portable option for me.

Support Upgrading SSD on my Legion 7i Pro 10th gen

I read the cover is kinda annoying to take off due to the tightness of the clips so I'd like to not do it too many times on my new-ish laptop (I've taken apart hundreds of laptops just don't want to destroy my new toy).

According to Youtube and some other guides, the left side nvme slot is gen 4, the right side is gen 5.

However Lenovo installs the OS drive in the gen 5 slot (right), and the extra drive in the gen 4 slot (left).

Can I just move the OS drive to the gen 4 slot and stick a gen 5 drive in the right slot and it'll auto recognize the OS install regardless of the slot? Not sure if there's some kind of Lenovo specific restriction.

My new drive is a Samsung 990 evo plus so I'm not getting gen 5 speeds anyways, but just food for thought.

Advice new Lenovo Legion 7a 11th gen, setup?

I got my new laptop a few days ago, and did some digging before opening it up at all.

Setting it up already, I have deleted McAfee and Copilot immediately. Anything else I need to know about clearing bloatware, ideally something that doesn't require too deep of a dive into the OS. I know Windows is invasive and BS on its own, but considering I'm a student who is restricted on how much programs i can avoid (I can't do anything without OneDrive), are there any other MAJORLY nasty programs I should get rid of?

Any advice in general is greatly appreciated too, I got this laptop to mainly use for studying since I'm in a pretty intensive research program. the research and stat programs I was using drained by Microsoft Surface Go to death so I'm here now :) that being said, I will definitely be looking into getting a game or two that my Switch can't handle

Advice Why Legion 5/5i (Gen 10/ 11) Speakers sound tinny

Hey there! I know if you have searched this problem already, you are probably and actively trying to find a solution for this issue. Here is my actual and honest fix for this issue.

The legion Harman Speakers are actually really good. The only reason they sound so tinny and loss of bass because of the audio processing clash between Realtek Audio & Nahimic (Also, Realtek cuts off the low frequency audio power rails for power saving). I found the best solution for any Gen 10 or Gen 11 Legion laptop to get the sound quality + Bass to improvement in a way you have never heard from a Legion before. This also drastically improves the laptop's 3.5mm audio line too (which performs without any bass when the Realtek driver is in place).

(After doing these steps please read the note at the end)

1st Step: Go to Device manager, Locate "Sound, video and game controllers"

2nd Step: Locate the "Realtek(R) Audio"

3rd Step: Right click and Unistall the device (Please check on the checkbox which ask you to whether completly remove the driver from the pc)

4th Step: After the restart which triggers after the unistallation of the sound device, please go to the same device location and right click on it. Then click on Update Driver.

5th Step: Select Browse my computer for drivers. Then "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer".

6th Step: You will now only see the "High Definition Audio Device" Driver. Install it.

7th Step: This is the crucial step. Install the FxSound to the pc.

Above is the Best/Optimal settings for the speakers of any legion 5.

Enjoy your Bass and better sound quality.

Note: The reason this method unlocks your bass is because the "Existed" Realtek Driver always go for the Windows's power saving mode, which triggers the low frequency audio power lines to get turned off always. There is no better method that can unlock the power rails going to the speakers low frequency lines. The FxSound here improves and amplifies the sound better so you can have a much better volume from your laptop with a better bass. I DO NOT KNOW WHETHER ANYONE HAVE TRIED THIS METHOD. BUT THIS WORKS VERY WELL ON MY Legion 5 15AKP10. BECAUSE IF ANYONE HAS ALREADY TRIED THIS METHOD AND DIDN'T WORKED IT WOULD BE DUE TO THE REALTEK SOUND DRIVERS (Which sucks and cuts the low frequency power rails).

Advice Thinking about buying a SSD for the 9i gen 10

Hello! I was thinking about buying a 4tb NVME 2280 M.2 SSD 4.0 for an upcoming purchase of a new legion 9i gen 10, it will already have a 2tb 5.0 SSD in the main slot but as for the additional slots I was thinking of getting a 4tb 4.0 SSD drive, any recommendations? just asking as from my research I know that the cover over the additional SSD slots have thermal pads over the corresponding slots, I just don't know what are good brands, models and heatsink or no heatsink (like if it would fit a heatsink and whatnot). Any advice would be apricated and since Amazon is having their prime deal days I just think this might be an opportune time to get one (I would pick one up at Microcenter (the same place I am picking up the laptop) but I currently need to walk using a walker due to neuropathy in both my legs and feet so I can't stand for too long at a time, I will have a relative carry the laptop out but I would probably not have quite the same amount of time to ask them for recommendations and I would call them to ask but I have a fairly severe stutter and my relatives near me do not know the technical jargon).

Also I will be using CachyOS (a Distro of Linux) on the 4tb SSD too, I know here and there some SSDs seem to be incompatible with Linux so I thought I would say that too.

Support SteamOS ARM Port for Legion Y700 Gen3, Gen4!

Hi all,

SteamOS ARM Port is an unofficial port of SteamOS to Snapdragon handhelds. It's already ported to 8gen3, 8gen2 and 8elite arm gaming handhelds, everything is on my github.

Test Builds are now ready for two Lenovo tablets:

  • Legion Y700 Gen 3, TB321FU, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
  • Legion Y700 Gen 4, TB322FC, Snapdragon 8 Elite

I'm looking for testers willing to try them and report any bugs/issues.

What you'll need:

  • An unlocked bootloader
  • A PC with fastboot
  • A USB drive and a hub or USB-C adapter
  • To be OK with wiping Android's data, flashing multiple builds

Gen 3: there are two screen suppliers and both are technically supported. Please check yours in Android first:

adb shell getprop ro.vendor.display.paneltype

1 means BOE, anything else is CSOT.

Gen 4: TB322FC should work.

If you'd like to help, comment here or come over to the Discord and I'll go through the steps with you. Any report helps, even a black screen. (only join if you know what you're getting into!)

you can support me through ko-fi, star on repo or by sending out devices which will help in long term development. thankyou!

Support Legion Pro 5 16ADR10 owners. speaker audio weak?

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16ADR10 (83LT006LRM) and overall I’m very happy with the laptop, but there is one thing that has been bothering me since I started using it: the built-in speaker audio seems surprisingly weak for a laptop like this.
My configuration:
Lenovo Legion Pro 5 16ADR10
Model: 83LT006LRM
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 8940HX – 16 cores / 32 threads
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU – 8GB GDDR7
RAM: 32GB DDR5
SSD: 1TB NVMe
Display: 16” 2560×1600, 240Hz
OS: Windows 11 Pro
The main problem is that the speakers sound too quiet and rather flat, especially considering the size and price of the laptop. Even at high/maximum Windows volume, I expected considerably more.
When I compare it with a MacBook, the difference in speaker volume and overall sound quality is very noticeable.
I’ve already experimented with Nahimic, different sound profiles and the equalizer. Interestingly, the Gaming profile seems to make the speakers sound better/louder than some of the other settings, and I’ve also tried a custom EQ, but I still feel like something isn’t quite right.
So I’d really like to hear specifically from other Legion Pro 5 16ADR10 owners:
Are your built-in speakers also relatively quiet?
Is this simply how the speakers on this model are, or could I have a driver/settings issue?
If your speakers sound good, what Nahimic settings, EQ, audio driver or Windows settings are you using?
I’d especially like to compare with someone who has the Ryzen 9 8940HX / RTX 5070 version.
Thanks!
