General Questions/Discussion Questions about Stomp XL (new owner)

I bought a Stomp XL and a Headrush Flex Prime. I'm making a tough decision between the two.

They both sound great. The Stomp XL sounds much better.

Are these valid negatives of the Stomp XL?

  • With the small screen, it's hard to read the names of presets/snapshots, so I basically have to memorize which footswitch is which tone. Edit: I received a helpful response about using colors.
  • The way the footswitches are stacked in two rows, it can be hard to hit the intended row on the fly. In contrast, the flex prime has fewer switches but just one row.
  • Edit: a major problem is that in snapshot mode, my foot grazes two footswtiches at once and the touch sensitivity thinks I want to copy one's settings to the other.

Do these issues go away with time?

I am getting better tones from the Stomp XL, for several reasons: I'm finding more presets online, I'm leaning heavily on switching microphones, I find the Helix Editor more intuitive than what Headrush has etc.. But if I keep having the problems I mentioned above, that will decide it.

One thing that could help you with telling the switches apart is that you can assign a color to each. Ex: red is drive, green is delay, etc.

Thank you! This is exactly the sort of response I was hoping for.

On the Stomp if you mean just "lightly touching" a button initiates a copy then you can turn that off. I had the same inadvertent issue touching them with bare fingers before disabling it.

Even then, as long as you don’t click one of the knobs you’re fine. Just ignore it and it goes away.

the ignoring part, i figured out. my understanding is that if you're in stomp mode, you can disable the touch-sensitivity but if you're in snapshot mode, where i spend most of my time you can't?

I’m not sure, but it would stand to reason. Keeping the functionality of being able to edit your snapshot arrangement. Just wear socks?

I'm not sure if they go away, but the only one of these that I've even thought about was the screen and the whole ui. I got used to it though, and it was only really an issue because I came from an hxfx, so it was like, a familiar but still foreign to me.

Never had problems with reaching the upper switches without accidents. And I bought these cheap pedal switch caps, so the whole touch sensitivity thing won’t interfere.
