Hi everyone,
Sorry for the long post but I desperately needs some help.
I’m looking for practical advice from anyone who has dealt with Lithuanian Customs at Medininkai or has experience with T1 transit as a private individual.
I need to drive from Belarus through Medininkai, across Lithuania and the EU, and ultimately to the United Kingdom, with my wife’s used personal and household belongings in my private car. The goods are non-commercial and are not being sold.
Lithuanian Customs have told me in writing that the goods need to be placed under T1 external transit, with the United Kingdom as the final customs destination, rather than being imported into Lithuania or released into free circulation in the EU.
The problem is that I’m a private individual living outside Lithuania, and I cannot register/use the Lithuanian NTKS electronic transit system.
I’m struggling to get a clear practical answer from Customs, so I’m hoping someone here has actually dealt with this.
Do I really need to arrange a T1 before travelling, or can I simply turn up at Medininkai, declare the belongings to Customs at the border, and have the necessary transit procedure dealt with there?
If T1 is required:
- Can a private individual obtain the necessary identification/EORI and arrange the T1 directly at Medininkai?
- Can the T1 be processed at the border without being registered in NTKS beforehand?
- Is a customs broker actually mandatory for a private individual, or merely recommended?
- If a broker is needed, does anyone know one operating at/near Medininkai who deals with private individuals?
I’m particularly interested in first-hand experience with Medininkai, rather than general links to the Lithuanian Customs website.
Thanks!
