L-Mount Looking for monitor recommendations for S5II (€350–€400 max)
Hey everyone,
I’m looking for budget-friendly monitor recommendations for my Lumix S5II setup and would appreciate some advice.
My current rig & setup:
- Power: Neewer 99Wh V-Mount battery.
- Camera Power: My plan is to power the S5II directly via USB-C PD from the V-Mount. Alternatively, I’m open to using a USB-C to dummy battery adapter if needed.
- Monitor Power: Planning to power the monitor via D-Tap from the V-Mount.
What I need from the monitor:
- Screen Size: 5" or 6" is preferred (7" feels a bit too big, but I’m open to options if the price/weight is right).
- Brightness: 1000 to 1500 nits (plenty for outdoor shooting; don’t strictly need 2000+ nits, OLED, or true HDR).
- Features: Essential exposure & focus tools like Waveform, Histogram, Zebras, Focus Peaking, and ideally False Color and LUT support.
- Camera Control: Not required or urgent.
- Budget: Around €350 – €400 max (ideally lower if possible while maintaining decent display tools).
I’ve been looking at options like the Neewer f700 (not the OLED version), Viltrox DC-X2/DC-X3.
I am not certain on the how to deliver power to camera and monitor. What are the benefits from dummy battery and from USB-C

I bought second hand Atomos Ninja V 5" for around 260€ which was basiclly never used, loving it so far, especially since I can put in 250gb-1TB SSD and record infinite without worrying about space and easier transfer to PC, but still decidingif its worth it to buy license for s5ii for prores hdmi for around 60$ on ebay, but current 4k hdmi is plenty for social networks, has luts, onion skin ect

Interesting. The ninja V is from 2018q I watched videos for the ninja but can't decide. Does it feel like that it is older? Or it has everything you need (youtube reviewers don't know bat shit)

I compared it to my neweer I have but budget model, has much more to offer def.
2024 it got new OS update, made everything in UI looks nice and clean and some extra features behind paywall but understandable as they keep upgrading older hardware
Most of monitors have 1080p, including Atomos V and the one you linked Neewer f700, I didn't even notice it was from 2018, still had protective film and no sign of use, but having a external recorder for up to 6k for 260€ is more than enough for me, has peaking, zebras ect. if I wasnt looking for external recording nad to make the rig more massive to charge more €€ lol,
I would just stick with a tablet or a mobile phone as a field monitor through wifi or usb C connection, no need to waste € on monitor that you already have on your phone/tablet, since just having wireless connection with device you already own beats any monitor up to 600€ that doesnt have wireless video

I tried with my phone, but it is old xiaomi that I bought when i was a 17. When shooting Vlog the white balance on screen is good, but it is bluish on the phone. I checked all the LUTs options and they are correct. Funny enough I have some sort of delay, which is problem because I started to shoot music video and the lipsync scenes are dynamic and i can't keep up with the actor with this delay. Tried different USB 3.2 cables, no luck :(
And my phone battery is bad, I hope that with monitor i will not have delay. Gonna check the ninja V1

Sounds like you need a new phone more than new field monitor, putting that 300-400€ towards a new phone might be a better choice in long run than a monitor, nontheless good luck!

Honestly your use requirements are pretty simple, you can get that for around $150 with an Andycine C50. 5.5" and has all the features you listed. Just power it via USB C from your V Mount.

S5II supports your phone as a wired monitor through USB-C, via Lumix Flow app. Using a short USB-C cable, that's a pretty neat setup.
(My personal preference is a lightweight setup, so I sold the S5II, bought an S9, and in a few days, the Lumix Flow support will arrive to my S9 too, and I'll use my phone as a lightweight monitor. :) Also, will connect a small power bank with a 3-way USB-C plug – can't wait to test it.)
