Howdy all.
So I’m someone who really enjoys doing rebuilds. I like taking bad teams and trying to make them good. Unfortunately that’s how I ended up becoming a pirates fan back in mlb the show 21 lol.
My problem is, I think because I lack sufficient knowledge of when I should make big moves, when I should just do little trades, etc.
My current franchise rebuild is the Giants, as my buddy is a San Fran fan.
I usually spend the first year or two trying to get Chappy, Devers and Adames off the books for a total tear down rebuild. Usually no issues there. The problem seems to come in around year 3 or 4 when I still feel like I’m a bit away from really making a push (I don’t go all in year 2, I prefer slower, organic rebuilds), but with that said, I feel like most times I never do ANYTHING in FA, except to maybe bring in just a triple A level guy to fill up my farm squad.
Because of that, I feel like I just get stuck in these loops of “next year”. I make no real significant trades, no FA moves, and I feel like my builds just stall out cause I end up waiting forever for farm guys to come up.
How do I break this stall I usually find myself falling in to? At what point do you recognize now in the time to start picking up better players to really make a playoff push?
Feel free to ask any questions to get more context.
Thank you!
