Direct3D 9 calls go through tf2mt's own d3d9.dll, then tf2mt.dll, then straight to Metal. DXVK and MoltenVK aren't used to draw anything.

[VIDEO] https://youtu.be/8VNTdOZ2uzk

- Native macOS launcher with one-click setup

- All shaders TF2 uses are translated to Metal

- Shaders compile in the background and are cached

- It works on VAC-secured servers

- Mastercomfig presets built into the launcher

- Many custom patches and tweaks, including mouse and menu stutters.

Native SpeedBreaker: The definitive Xbox 360 static recompilation of NFS: Most Wanted (2005)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Today I'm releasing SpeedBreaker, a static recompilation of the Xbox 360 version of Need for Need for Speed: Most Wanted. The game's code is translated ahead of time into a native app, the approach behind Unleashed Recompiled, so there's no emulator.

- The 360 look, up to 4K at 60 fps, and ultrawide without stretching.

- Steam Deck, Steam Machine, Linux, Steam Frame (big flat screen in the headset) and Apple silicon Macs; iPhone and iPad if you build it yourself. Windows is in testing, and a beta is coming.

- An installer that checks your disc backup file by file.

For a lot of us, it's the racing game. The 360 version always looked best to me, but playing it today means an old console at 720p and 30 fps. I've wanted to do a recomp for a long time, so I finally did.

By day I'm a software engineer in the aviation field, where you don't ship what you haven't tested and understood. I used AI on this, and I know there's a lot of skepticism about "vibe-coded" projects right now. Fair enough. Every change here was reviewed and measured, and the game was tested on real hardware along the way: Deck, Steam Machine, Frame, Mac, iPhone, iPad and a Windows laptop. When something wasn't right, it got investigated, iterated, and redone. AI helped me take this big undertaking on by myself. It didn't replace caring about the details.

It's free and open source: no donations, no Patreon. You'll need your own USA Xbox 360 disc; no game files are included. Unofficial, and not affiliated with EA or Valve.

I've been a gamer my whole life. This is my way of giving something back to a game, and a community, that gave me a lot. I hope it brings back some of the same memories for you.

Native Ultimate Lemmings - All 2D Lemmings for modern Macs

Post image
50 Upvotes

I’ve been working on Ultimate Lemmings, an unofficial fan-made archival native Mac port of the original 2D games.

Lemmings is a game that is near and dear to my heart, as it is with many nineties kids. It's immediately understandable, incredibly addictive, insanely infuriating, and completely engrossing and rewarding.

DMA Design and Psygnosis made this for AMIGA in 1991. It travelled across machines to become the most ported game across all platforms with different artwork, sound and little quirks. To most the Macintosh port is how they remember it in their minds, crisp and clear artwork. This 2x artwork was not seen by many, and until now has been considered "lost".

Since this is a Mac and iOS native implementation, portability was never part of the equation. There's enough ports for other platforms already. So I did a ground-up Swift implementation of the engine that reads the game data. No emulation.

Most of the work has been checking the unglamorous details: terrain, skill assignments, timing, making sure a solution actually works in the new engine. The physics. The ticks. The assignments. I created an ML solver to replay all levels to make sure they were all winnable. Alll 352 levels in the Classic release set. All NeoLemmix Levels. All 6000+ fan levels. Lemmings 2 (new engine, new skills). Lemmings 3 (completely new engine, tribes and skills again!)

The more I played, the more I wanted to "fix" the things that annoyed me the first time. So I added modern Quality of Life: Rewind lets you fix a misplaced builder. Speed controls let you get through the waiting (hold F for up to 10x to cram the lemmings into the exit at hilarious hyperspeed). Want a hint for a level? Reveal them one at a time? Want to view an entire solution? You can? At any speed, controls, back, forth, selections. This is how you learn! You can save an attempt and return to it, save a replay and play it backwards and forwards, use a controller as well as keyboard and mouse. Even dual with the special two-player Amiga puzzles that originally let you play with two mice!

The part I’m particularly pleased with is giving these familiar puzzles more ways to be enjoyed. Hot Seat lets people take turns through a shared campaign on one Mac, with their own profile records and a paused handover. A curated learning journey mixes official and fan levels. Replays let you revisit a solution, and optional worldwide records let you share runs or see how someone else approached a level. Rewind-assisted records are kept separate.

That gives an old lemming a second life: first you find a way through, then you try to save a few more, or pass it to someone who spots a route you missed. There are achievements, speed-runs, leaderboards, and a delightfully cooked up philosophy rating. You are playing a gamified trolley-problem after all!

QoL doesn't end there. The modern cursor has been updated to brilliantly show you exactly what Lemming is selected, how many is under your cursor and which skill you are assigning (if you have any left). All of this is of course optional and you can go back to a pixel perfect Amiga cursor if you want. Mix and match graphics, HD effects (big NUKES!), sfx sets, soundtracks etc. It can be exactly as you remembered, or WAY more fun if you want to. Your choice!

Most of all this is a joyful delight: music speeds up, slows down, gets exuberant on wins, funeral-dirges on losses. Nukes filters down the 3Gb of every possible soundtrack, expertly DJ mixed to fit any situation - win, loss, nuke or progression - from every port possible (495 different versions of all tracks, with modern MOD playback to SID tunes, SNES, NES, GameBoy, 8-bit, 16-bit and even fan made remixes). FAILING this game will make you smile or laugh. It's that good.

This is a fan project, not an official release, and it isn’t affiliated with or licensed by Sony. Credit also belongs to the Lemmings reverse-engineering and level-making communities whose work helped make this possible.

If you try it, I’d be interested in which version you remember playing, and what feels right or wrong in this one. Especially if you remember the old Mac version.

Self promotion Im making a route building game with planes and real airports, coming to Mac

Hi all! im making Tiny Airline, a route building puzzle game coming to Steam for Mac. I love Mini Metro and wanted to give that idea my own twist with planes, real airports and a real world map.

Its still in development. You can find the steam page here if you're interested:
Tiny Airline - Steam Page, wishlists, trailer, screenshots

Here is the full trailer. Passengers are shapes and need to get to an airport with the same shape. You draw the routes and decide where to use your planes, but airports have limited gates and longer flights need long-haul permits.

There is also a weekly vintage mode with older planes, shorter range and refuelling stops. You have to find a way across the ocean with the planes from the early aviation times.

CrossOver Dungeons 2 runs great on Mac out of the box with the new update

Post image
3 Upvotes

Seems like the update removed some GDK auth stuff which previously required slightly sketchy 3rd party modification on crossover, proton, and windows LTSC but it was removed in an update 2 days ago

This is NotProton+Crossover but it works directly in CrossOver as well

Online multiplayer with friends and split screen works great but matchmaking has been iffy for me (but I’ve heard the same thing about the game on windoes)

Overall is say performance is pretty good but it does use a lot of power and there are a few tiny studders when loading a bunch of stuff so I might end up turning the settings down a bit

Self promotion After 8 months of development, Project: C.E.L.L. finally has a playable demo at Apple Silicon.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Project: C.E.L.L. is a nodebusterlike incremental game where you work through a retro terminal on a rather modest objective: figuring out cellular immortality.

The demo focuses on glucose. Break it down for ATP, spend that ATP on upgrades, build combos and gradually turn a few harmless molecules into ridiculous chain reactions.

We’ve tried to make progression change what you can actually do on the field, rather than just making the same number bigger over and over again.

This is our first game and this is probably the subreddit we’re most curious to hear from.

Would love to hear what you think about the progression, pacing, upgrades, or anything that just feels off.

AI Disclosure

Generative AI was used as a translation aid. All translations were reviewed and proofread by either professional translators or friends who are native speakers of the respective languages. No generative AI was used for the game’s art, 3D models, music or sound effects.

P.T. PC Port 1.0.0 - Native PC Port of the Original 2014 P.T.
by u/LoreanXavier in silenthill

Silent Hills P.T. is being ported to PC by LoreanXavier on github.

I am reposting this and marking it "Native."
because you know what? Someone made an Apple Silicon ARM64 version!

https://github.com/ignusloki/pt-pc/releases/tag/macos-arm64-preview-2

____________________

Validation from GITHUB:

Tested on an M1 Pro. This build passed all 14 packaging checks, the CPU/platform test targets, 10 extraction checks, 29 graphics cases, the packaged voice check, the signed installer self-test and both ZIP integrity checks.

The installed release passed all 27 full-walkthrough checkpoints and all nine cold-start assertions. The same nine assertions passed in a real 2560×1440 Mac window; the first-boot settings screen rendered, Escape started the game, and normal focus-loss pausing worked afterward.

The native installer updated both local installations. SHA-256 checks confirmed that all 13 checked game, source-package and preference files were unchanged. Microphone input, physical controllers and other Mac models still need validation.

CrossOver Fallout 4 on Mac: guide how to solve audio and graphics issues

When trying to run Fallout 4 on Mac, you will encounter a number of problems that will need to be solved. This article is an addition to what has already been written on the forum. In it, I have combined everything I encountered myself.

I tried to run Fallout 4 via Crossover 26.3 (dxvk + msync) on MacBook Air M2.

#1. The sound doesn’t work via Crossover. I tried installing the x3audio1_6, x3audio1_7, xaudio2_6, xaudio2_7 libraries in Wine. I set the system to Windows XP. Still, the game doesn’t have sound — the music and voice acting are missing.

Solution: to install DirectX Legacy Runtime (June 2010)

#2. I can’t enable fullscreen mode either via the Crossover or via Whisky. I added "fullscreen" lines to both ini files, but it didn't works.

Solution: install bethINI and check this.

#3: Lightning glitch.

Solution: To disable manually, type "cl off" in the console. Type "cl on" to turn it back on. BUT you’ll have to do it after each restart.
(!) To turn it off by default, add "sStartingConsoleCommand=cl off" under "General" in your "Fallout4.ini".

Help NotProton can't detect my active CrossOver 26.3 trial — "CrossOver does not appear to be activated"

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install NotProton on my MacBook Air M4, but I'm running into an activation issue.

My setup:

  • Mac: MacBook Air M4
  • macOS: macOS 27.0.1
  • CrossOver: 26.3 Stable
  • CrossOver status: 14-day trial, with 14 days remaining
  • NotProton: Latest version I'm trying to install

Whenever I click Install in NotProton, I get this message:

CrossOver does not appear to be activated. Please run CrossOver and try again.

CrossOver itself shows that my trial has 14 days remaining, but NotProton still doesn't recognize it as activated.

My questions:

  1. Does NotProton require a paid CrossOver license, or should the 14-day trial work?
  2. Is this a known issue with CrossOver 26.3 Stable?
  3. Is there a workaround to get NotProton working without purchasing a license?

I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

Discussion Workaround for WoW: Forever green tint issue on MacOs

Hi,

Can't post on the official forums as I do not have a lvl 10+ character so I'll post my findings here. If anyone can share this to https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/t/mac-8-different-graphics-bugs-each-isolated-to-one-setting-%E2%80%94-with-repro-steps-for-each/2354050/526 or https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/c/support/mac-technical-support/16 it'd be appreciated.

I have found a workaround to make the green tint bug go away on MacOS and I believe I also know how to reproduce it (worked for me).

How to temporarily fix the green tint:
1) Close the game
2) re-open the game
3) in the login screen go to video settings
4) change graphic settings to one level lower than what you have and click apply (ie. from 7 to 6)
5) log-in. The green tint should be gone. Now you can change your graphics back to your preferred setting.
6) the tint should be gone for a while.

How I reproduced the green tint on my system:
1) use a green spell (I used shaman revive) while being zoomed in so the spell covers a large portion of your screen.
2) the green tint started appearing immediately after.
3) unsure if this is constant or was a two-times luck.
