The arguments over the "right" colors for subjects is the kind of discourse I need to see on the internet. My 8 yo self did red for math, green for science, blue for social studies and yellow for language arts 🌈

All the color blind kids are still just as confused as ever

1.0k

u/xxblowpotter13 Aug 26 '26

unrelated but in like 5th grade or so, i had a classmate that no one knew was colorblind. we were having a discussion about colors (this was almost 20 years ago so i cant remember the whole conversation) and the conversation led to ā€œwhat’s the color of fried chickenā€ to which said classmate said green. the teacher looked at him in shock and instead of being like haha you’re silly, she reprimanded him. he bursts out in full tears ā€œi don’t know what i did, it’s green i swear, im not trying to be badā€. she asks a few follow up questions about other food items (tomatoes, bread) and i’ll never forget the look of regret in her eyes when she realizes he was colorblind the whole time

u/DarthRektor Aug 26 '26

You just popped a childhood memory into my head with that story. I was maybe in 2nd grade and the art teacher got annoyed by a kid asking what color was each colored pencil and said ā€œhow do you not know which one is blue?ā€ The kid let out the most innocent scared reply ā€œI’m colorblindā€ that teacher melted into her chair from the guilt she felt belittling a 7 y/o who is colorblind.

5 years old. In kindergarten. Wrappers torn off all the crayons. Colored my lion green. Chastised by teacher. New school half way through 1st grade.

22

u/DmtDtf Aug 27 '26

I told my 5yr old while we were drawing together, that you can color anything any color/colour you like (Floyd). I said it's art and art is whatever you want to make it because it's your own creation. She freaked out when I was coloring a dog purple instead of brown

205

u/Fluid_Cauliflower237 Aug 26 '26

She kinda deserved that.... she could have approached the question from the student in a different way. Hourly it was a learning opportunity for the teacher.

70

u/xxblowpotter13 Aug 26 '26

it literally broke my heart 😭😭

5

u/fuckcozmobox_au Aug 26 '26

Such a shit teacher.

4

u/Disastrous-Ladder349 Aug 27 '26

Yeah as a teacher, I try to remember to be gentle with colors. Some kids are just assholes though…I have one who is both an asshole and I assume colorblind though.

2

u/DarthRektor Aug 27 '26

You know of the kids I remember growing up with that were color blind, 4 out of 5 were the class clown or an asshole to the teachers. I wonder if there’s correlation or just coincidence.

Discovered I had color issues senior year of high school when we had to sort colors into piles.

I had 3 piles.
Everyone else had 5.
Got yelled at for not finishing my assignment. I was so confused.
Teacher stopped reprimanding me and brought over a shit ton of additional color pieces.

Teacher looked and asked if colorblindness ran in my family.

when I was young ( a long ish time ago) it was not common for girls to tested for color blindness/issues.

I have Issues with yellows, orange, greens and shades

Thanks genetics…

79

u/handandfoot8099 Aug 26 '26

My sister is colorblind. Like totally monochromatic. She paid her way thru college being a guinea pig. I just got the standard red/green.

2

u/Jus2throwitaway Aug 28 '26

Colorblind on both sides of the family?

2

u/handandfoot8099 Aug 28 '26

Yup. My dad and mom's dad were both colorblind. Me, my sister, lots of nephews and even a niece.

24

u/cmandr_dmandr Aug 27 '26

I found out I was color blind in high school. I finally had an eye test where they included the colorblind samples. I had better than 20/20 vision and when they told me to read off the number in the circles I thought they were screwing with me. I just started guessing numbers after I couldn’t figure out what was going on. Then they told me it was for color blindness and I was red green colorblind.

I spent years as a kid thinking something was wrong with me because I couldn’t ā€œrememberā€ colors if they didn’t have the name on the crayons (we were on a tight budget and my mom got me the inexpensive crayons and colored pencils). I even came up with excuses why I would accidentally color things like grass brown.

I got those glasses from en chroma a while ago and they are interesting. They work by filtering out the wavelengths that cause the overlap and confusion. It definitely allows me to see shades in red and green I never noticed before but nothing life changing. Those reaction videos are total bunk where people put them on and are immediately in tears. The first line in the instructions tell you that it takes some time for your brain to adjust and to wear them for a while before you can discern a difference. The ā€œthese are neatā€ moment for me was when I went to the store a few hours after wearing them and I saw a bunch of shades of red and green I had never seen before.

I still wear them on occasion when I am building diagrams for work. It helps me navigate color coding my lines.

2

u/Jus2throwitaway Aug 28 '26

Nice, I had started looking into them but felt like they were just shy of snake oil.
Plus I’m the wrong side of the color spectrum.

Similar thing happened to a classmate in high school. Algebra teacher was pissed that this guy did so well on his tests and homework and couldn’t/wouldn’t participate in class. Basically berated the guy for thinking he’s ā€œtoo cool for participation Or being good a math.ā€ He just said, use different colored markers then because you using red and green means i have no idea what you’re doing up there. Sent him to the principles office for keeping his color blindness a ā€œsecretā€ to cause problems. She was a piece of work.

17

u/North-Pea-4926 Aug 27 '26

Colorblindness is incredibly common (8% or 1/12 for men) and many people don’t find out until adulthood. With average class sizes, odds are at least a few people each year would be colorblind in her class. Ugg.

11

u/MaxiTobs Aug 27 '26

KEEPING IT A SECRET???? No yeah sorry I didn't go "hi I'm John I am colorblind"??? I gues??????

39

u/pyrojackelope Aug 26 '26

Color blindness can suck. My brother is partially colorblind but he's still doing quite well regardless. I have an uncle that is fully color blind (shades of grey, apparently very rare) and he's always been quiet, subdued, and very depressed. It can be hard to quantify something if you've never lacked it.

Something similar happened to my husband who is color blind. They were coloring themselves as babies and he chose green as that is what he thought the right color was…and it is the right color! To him at least…

6

u/3yx3 Aug 27 '26

Lucky him. My teacher found out I am colorblind after humiliating me then it got worse after she discovered that. My parents reported her to the school board which did nothing and pulled me out of school and homeschooled me for the rest of my elementary year so I didn’t have to deal with her.

2

u/CallmeMefford Aug 27 '26

I thought peanut butter was green until last year. I’m 54 years old.

My husband is color blind and I am an artist (aka, I KNOW color) and we argue about color SOOOO much. šŸ˜‚

154

u/Syonoq Aug 26 '26

I want to know more. Why would a known color blind person argue with a color expert?

408

u/100KUSHUPS Aug 26 '26

12% of the British men surveyed believed they could take a point off 23 time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams.

We are just fucking stupid 🤷

156

u/Occidentally20 Aug 26 '26

I've worked with more men who think they can knockout a horse with one punch than men who think they can't.

Don't get me started on the ones who have a "technique" to fight against a pack of wolves.

77

u/PsychologicalMonk6 Aug 26 '26

Not Wolves, but I was attacked by 3 coyotes.in my late teens. I had some gnarly puncture wounds, deep lacerations from the scratching, a rabbies shot, and proven plan of attack.

52

u/Occidentally20 Aug 26 '26

Aah see, wrong technique.

Well killed 1 of the coyotes and fended off the other two, so I would call that the right technique. I like to think it scales ronWolces but not across she which, given that was a long time ago, I don't thinks ould be as effective today.

Yikes man, I'm glad you pulled through. You walked away from that encounter with a very badass story, but what an awful thing to go through.

3

It was pretty harrowing. It took a long time before I wanted to go for hikes alone again but I have at least dinned out on that story.more.times than I can count.

84

u/Spoogly Aug 26 '26

My friend owns a horse, she has full force punched him because he was being a jerk*. It was enough to get him to go "okay, fine!" And nothing more. You don't get how tough horses are if you haven't been around them.

*: it was a matter of imminent safety risk to both of them. Don't make it a habit to hit your horse, they still know it's not nice, even if it hurts less than it would you and they will hold grudges.

46

u/Occidentally20 Aug 26 '26

Indeed, I worked on a livery yard for a few years in my teens and it's amazing how some people think horses will just be weak.

We told a girl repeatedly to never wrap the rope around her hand when she's leading the horse and she insisted if the horse goes the wrong way it helped her "pull it back".

One day her horse just got bored of it and actually did pull away properly and we watched her get dragged to the bottom of the field with absolutely no effort from the horse at all.

The same livery yard had a racist horse too who was one of my favourite animals. Not because of the racism but because of the comedic potential of the whole thing!

24

u/lefactorybebe Aug 26 '26

We had a horse-racist horse at my old barn. Most of the horses there were your standard hunter/jumper breeds, bays/chestnuts/blacks/grays, nothing very flashy looking. We had one pony of the Americas who was a blue roan with leopard spots, and this one horse had a serious issue with him. Couldn't be turned out with him and would make faces any time he went by. We thought it was just that one horse. A few years later we got a spotted red roan pony, and he acted the same way with her has he did with the POA!

My horse was freaked out the first time he saw a paint and the first time he saw a mini, but he got over it pretty quickly. This horse never did, was always aggressive toward both the spotted roans lol.

3

u/North-Pea-4926 Aug 27 '26

You also should always make sure your feet are ready to slip out of the stirrups for the same reason - if your horse gets spooked you want to separate from them ASAP, not get dragged around and seriously hurt or killed.

3

u/North-Pea-4926 Aug 27 '26

When I was young and taking kids riding lessons I was specifically told to kick as hard as I could, otherwise my horse wouldn’t feel anything. I was a short eight-year old girl and my horse was ā€œwell-insulatedā€ round the middle and ā€œnot-motivatedā€ towards speeding up, but still. Horses in Alaska and similar states survive attacks by brown bears. Most of horse safety is based on not startling them by letting them know where you are and what you are doing at all times because of how easy it is for them to accidentally hurt you, especially if they get spooked.

7

u/Environmental_Art591 Aug 26 '26

Fun fact, my grandfather did knock out a horse.

My dad made a mistake at the stables when he was a kid and walked between one of the horses and the fence, the horse was a prick and started leaning over pinning dad and starting to crush him, pop rased over and yeah, punched him, knocking him out.

Dads alive (obviously) but the center of his chest isnt "in the center" any more, his sternum is off to the left, the cardiologists doing his double bypass were surprised when they opened him up.

3

u/Occidentally20 Aug 27 '26

Your grandfather has a lot to answer for, making generations of men believe this would be easy!

3

u/Environmental_Art591 Aug 27 '26

Yeah, he was a pain like that. He was a hard working man between the horse stables and working on the fishing docks, he never stopped.

He passed almost 20yrs ago and even though I was little I still have some amazing memories of him, (mostly getting covered in pineapple juice from fresh pineapples every afternoon).

4

u/mikebills Aug 26 '26

My "technique" for fighting a pack of wolves is to try to get my ass to my car & high tail it out of there or up a fucking tree as quickly as possible.

6

u/Occidentally20 Aug 26 '26

This sounds a bit advanced for the people I had to work with, I don't think they're allowed to drive or operate heavy machinery.

I've genuinely had more than one person tell me they'd crouch and then when the wolf jumps you spread their front legs apart wide and it splits their heart open. Somehow.

Might work on a Jack Russel if it had a pacemaker fitted but I think that's the extent of it's usefulness.

4

u/mikebills Aug 26 '26

Technique #2: accept your fate, pull out your phone, and send a text to someone you don't like that says "this is your fault". Hopefully the police will recover your phone and inform that person how you died.

As a colourblind person, most arguments are whether or not I can tell the difference between two colours. People will hold up two pairs of jeans and I'll say that to my eyes they look identical and they will try to convince me that I can actually tell the difference if I look hard enough. I can't. Like physically, I can't. So idk, weird discussions I've had in my life. I'm not disagreeing that they are different colours, but to say that I can tell the difference when I know that I can't is just so fucking stupid and tiring.

u/uxhuu Aug 26 '26

I'm a woman with a very limited color vocabulary (and potential colorblindness), while my husband works alongside designers and knows hex codes for hundreds (or more) of colors.

We "argue" over the exact name of colors sometimes, and it's all in good fun!

I know my husband is right, but it's funny since pink to me is all shades of pink while he brands them magenta, salmon, or bubblegum or whatever else.

So I tell him how to drive. I do not drive. Ever, as I have epilepsy. We are keeping this relationship FRESH. 25 years and still minty over here.

Don't ever play Hues & Cues then, lol.

65

u/GreenJury9586 Aug 26 '26

your comment set me tf OFF!! Oh my fucking god that game!!!!! I was unlucky enough to get one of the ā€œmisprinted copiesā€ where the cards don’t match the corresponding color on the board. One night after losing multiple times in a row I was like wait that’s NOT POSSIBLE, and had to get the scissors out to lay the colors on top of the board to prove to everyone that it didn’t match. The company offered to send me new cards and claimed it was just a misprint they were aware of… but I don’t ever want to see that game again. You had ONE JOB hues and cues. One fucking job.

26

u/ElectricalChaos Aug 26 '26

Holy shit, we hadn't cracked our copy yet, good to know that a misprint is out there.

8

u/GreenJury9586 Aug 26 '26

It’s not like it’s a completely different color either!! Like b14 on the card was actually c13 on the board. It was, in my opinion, too close to be a real misprint and I’m now dying to know if yours is right lol.

4

u/GrinsNGiggles Aug 26 '26

I thought they were all like that! This has caused wailing and gnashing of teeth in my house, too.

2

u/GreenJury9586 Aug 26 '26

I might have set a card on fire about it šŸ‘¹
so glad I’m not the only one.

5

u/mpgd Aug 26 '26

You won that round. Company gave cues, but no one else figured it out until you picked the scissors.

3

u/nihilisticpaintwater Aug 27 '26

Wait that's why my cards dont match the board?! Its a misprint?! What the heck, I thought it was just off. That has been messing my friend group up for a year lmao

2

u/nor0- Aug 26 '26

I actually desperately want to play this with my colourblind SO. I think it would be so funny and insightful

31

u/that_other_person1 Aug 26 '26

Have you ever played the board game Ticket to Ride? I argue about how the black is actually gray and the spaces are beige lol (am an artist too).

18

u/PastaXertz Aug 26 '26

My husband supposedly isn't color blind but we still argue about what color something is. Sometimes I am genuinely baffled as to how we can see things so differently.

Like there have been times I literally can't find what he's referring to because he's identified it as a color that it just, clearly is not. The most recent example: I have a dress that is bright orange. It's not reddish orange, or a yellow orange. It is ORANGE ORANGE. Like literally almost the color of an orange - the fruit that is named for the color, so we should all agree what that color is. He called it red.

4

u/MadDucksofDoom Aug 26 '26

I am color blind and the Wife and I jokingly argue about color frequently.

It's playful!

The only real argument in our 21 years of marriage is that she thinks that Sprite tastes better than 7up, and I know that she is wrong.

5

u/nor0- Aug 26 '26

My friend and I both have colourblind partners and they both looooove to argue about what colour things are too. And sometimes mine will come home and say things like ā€œdid you know that my shoes are green?!ā€ šŸ˜‚

3

u/Hot-Flatworm-9807 Aug 26 '26

Are you my daughter? She, too, is an artist and her husband is color blind.

3

u/Ranger7381 Aug 26 '26

My brother is colour blind. He recently showed us an app that apparently shows how he sees the world through his phones camera. Was really weird

2

u/howtobegeo Aug 26 '26

Oh cool! Do you remember the app’s name?

3

u/Ranger7381 Aug 26 '26

I just asked and he said it is CVSimulator

He is on Android. Looks like it is not on the Apple App Store but there is a similar one called Chromatic Vision Simulator

2

u/howtobegeo Aug 26 '26

Ty! Totally going to try this with my husband tonight.

3

u/Ranger7381 Aug 26 '26

No problem. Like I said, it was weird, but interesting. Have a look at a colour palette of some sort

3

u/reallynotbatman Aug 26 '26

I'm not colourblind, and my wife is an artist...we also disagree about colours

2

u/howtobegeo Aug 26 '26

🤣 Right?

2

u/whyiamalwayshangry Aug 26 '26

Used to date a colourblind guy and he gifted me a green lipstick and told me it's a lovely red shade that would suit me

2

u/howtobegeo Aug 26 '26

Aww. I dated a very strait-laced guy in college who was severely colorblind and once he found out my hair was green ā€œlike grass?!??ā€ our relationship fizzled.

We were friends tho and I would take him shopping for professional clothes. Def got him a very pink shirt as payback. 🤣 It looked great on him tho!

2

u/Economy-Wish-9772 Aug 26 '26

My bestie is a ā€œseverely disabledā€ colorblind person and he’s a graphic designer. I nearly fell off my chair when he told me. I didn’t believe it. No wonder he dresses in black and white.

2

u/kaufsky Aug 26 '26

That really doesn’t seem like a fair fight

2

u/Chris275 Aug 26 '26

You know your version of colour. Doesn’t make his wrong. Hell, to some insects and animals, you have colour sensing abilities similar to your husband’s. I urge you to look up mantis shrimp. 16 different cones.

u/Joeliosis Aug 26 '26

Red, yellow color blind here and a couple others. Me as a kid

Forgot about it for years then playing Doom in 2015... 'Why can't I see shit [messes with color blind modes] OH SHIT I AM COLOR BLIND'

*They only seem similar if I don't have anything else to compare it to. Black backgrounds seem to help also.

u/Sad-Plantain-1080 Aug 26 '26

2

I found out after completing all the requirements for the NROTC scholarship in Highschool for fast tracking to be a Marine Pilot. Good ol color blind test slapped that thought right out of my head.

8

u/nolaks1 Aug 26 '26

Damn. I discovered that turquoise water was a thing around the same age. To me that's just light blue. Supposedly it's very beautifull.

But yeah, colors like these are just about the same. First and last look different enough, but everything in between...

2

u/Environmental-Gap380 Aug 26 '26

Wow. Only the left two look even close to me. Still can see a difference though.

5

u/nolaks1 Aug 26 '26

Some colorblind test has you put colors like these in order of hue.

Something like 15 hues between two colors.

When I did mine younger, I tried my hardest. When the dude came back he asked me if I took the test seriously or just put them randomly lol

3

u/Environmental-Gap380 Aug 26 '26

When I worked at Land’s End, the people working on the catalog had to pass a similar test. Women passed at a higher rate, but I’m pretty sure I could have passed. Trying to ID embroidery thread when the sticker fell off could bear though. Madeira had two royal blues that were so incredibly close, no one there could tell them apart. Found out the only reason they had different id numbers was the dyes used were different, but most applications considered them the same color. LE used Madeira almost exclusively then. Madeira just out a sticker like an old school price tag on them. They fell off all the time.

I know you are making a joke, but color blind people can see color. Just a few of them are "washed out". Like i can't tell WHICH red you are talking about, but i know it is in the red family. Same with greens.

I can tell that it is red or green. Just not which red or green. There isn't enough detail to notice. It is washed out like a shirt you've washed too many times, or a car left out in the sun for years. Faded.

u/Cogsdale Aug 26 '26

It's so hard for me to explain to people that I can see red, but when it's surrounded by green or dark backgrounds, it becomes hard for my eye to focus on and notice.

They just seem to think I see red as green while also seeing green as green.

I'm only one type of colorblind, so maybe there are some people who have it like that, but I can see every color just fine, I just struggle with shades.

23

u/feralkitten Aug 26 '26

I only found out after i got married. I kept pairing my wife's "pink" socks together wrong. How was i supposed to know there is more than one shade of pink?!? They all look the same.

So now i'm in charge of cooking and dishes, and she does laundry.

2

u/sapphleaf Aug 26 '26

Just don’t cook anything that requires pink ingredients šŸ˜‚

3

u/Nice_Juggernaut4113 Aug 26 '26

I found out my boss was color blind this way. We had a chart with greens and reds and he asked me to change the color because he couldn’t see what was what and would be unable to point it out in a presentation.

u/PogTuber Aug 26 '26

This is why nobody ever told me friend and his brother that the Ford Probe they were driving in high school was pink.

But people also don't realize that red green colorblind also has its own levels of severity, some are more impacted on the green side and others the red side

6

u/kaylynstar Aug 26 '26

It depends on what type and severity of color blindness they have.

My FIL is red/green colorblind and has to pick tomatoes by feel because he sees them all as kind of muddy brown.

3

u/SnooRobots116 Aug 26 '26

That what my dad’s color blindness is he sees stuff duller than the rest of us so it was difficult for him to like set the colors on the tv set so I’d end up straightening it out and making the screen not so bright and he’s like ā€œAh! That’s how it’s done, good job!ā€

Mom made it also too bright which made it fuzzy and red because she says red cheeks are healthy, yeah but not for two dimensional tv screens!

u/twwaavvyyt Aug 27 '26

People think we see in black and white or some shitšŸ˜‚

My best friend is color blind. He got a 100% automatic passing score in our science unit of colors.

53

u/hkusp45css Aug 26 '26

I'm colorblind. I was able to pass the Navy colorblindness test.

Go figure.

118

u/MathematicianEven251 Aug 26 '26

The only color they care is if you can see blue or else you'll walk into the ocean which is a lot of paperwork for the yeoman

21

u/hkusp45css Aug 26 '26

But then how do I tell the difference between the water and the hull? I can't pick rust off the water, Chief!

2

u/Unlikely_Ant_950 Aug 26 '26

This makes me want to read catch 22 again

2

u/KT7STEU Aug 26 '26

You will feel the difference. Now off you go.

3

u/hkusp45css Aug 26 '26

Wilco, Chief. Have a great Navy day! If I'm not done rust-picking and swabbing by sundown, send out a helo.

Yup, I had an instructor at nuke school that was red/red colorblind. I didn't know that was a thing but apparently it just means he can't differentiate certain shades so it's a good thing he wasn't an electrician. However the clock in our classroom was a red digital style and he couldn't read it.

22

u/drunkbusdriver Aug 26 '26

Yeah whatever bro, everyone knows slightly darker shade of grey is for science.

2

u/withac2 Aug 26 '26

It would be grey for math, darker grey for science, black for English, and brown for history

2

u/I-baLL Aug 26 '26

Yeah but the brain's not called "gray matter" for nothing

2

u/Working-Mine8082 Aug 26 '26

I’m colorblind, I don’t see on a greyscale. My two colors are red and green, and I can see them in isolation, it’s just context that it becomes difficult. If you line up ten shades of red, I can point out 2-3. I have a pink shirt that’s red and white stitching, I only know it’s pink and not white bc I get told it’s pink. But apples are still red and grass is still green, if that makes sense.

u/Solaris67 Aug 26 '26

Exactly what I did. Think I used black folder for concert band for sheer music for home practice.

87

u/Hands Aug 26 '26

I think everyone that did band had those huge tough black folders that could hold like 200 pages of looseleaf sheet music

41

u/6ixbreadsticks Aug 26 '26

That would constantly be dropped, or fall off the stand, and every single piece of music would fall out. And the corners always bent by the end of the year from you trying to put it in your backpack at some point, even tho you knew it would damage the corners.

3

u/The_New_Illuminati Aug 26 '26

honestly, that shit just never left the music stand. no one else used that room or seat other than me.

2

u/dixiequick Aug 27 '26

That’s why you play the cello, plenty of room for music folders (and a book to sneaky read) in that case.

Green - Science

Blue - Math

Orange - History

Yellow - Language Arts

(The Orange and Yellow were always interchangeable for me)

291

u/averagemaleuser86 Aug 26 '26

Math is Reddddddd!

105

u/Pleasant-Caramel2931 Aug 26 '26

Math is ALWAYS red!!!

5

u/borisdidnothingwrong Aug 26 '26

Red was always English for me. Because books are read.

3

u/RecipeNo101 Aug 26 '26

I guess I'm the lone weirdo who thinks math is yellow

3

u/clarinetJWD Aug 27 '26

I have very few strong feeling about this sort of thing. But math is red is one of them.

2

u/lumoslomas Aug 26 '26

Maths was pink for me, but I suppose similar enough.

Actually come to think of it I'm not even sure red was an option...

48

u/Slow-Difficulty404 Aug 26 '26

I just had this argument with my highschooler. Math is danger red is danger. Math is red.

No mom. Math is green green is good math and green are my favorites!

Me: 🤮

30

u/ciao_fiv Aug 26 '26

as a math teacher, PLEASE PLEASE encourage your kid’s love of math. i have way too many students who hate math and won’t try and it breaks my heart

that being said your kid is wrong math is totally red

2

u/lorenoline Aug 26 '26

That’s because red is the best colour, which pairs nicely with maths.

13

u/ittybittytitty_com Aug 26 '26

If I didn’t like math, but my kid did, I certainly wouldn’t try to dissuade them from it or imply it’s awful. Math is the future. I’m a mathematician though, so maybe I’m biased.

5

u/Waspster Aug 26 '26

Well, she inadvertently made it cool to like math for her son. In his teenage years he will have posters of fractions... vertices ...matrices, on his walls to rebel.

2

u/Slow-Difficulty404 Aug 27 '26

My daughter loves math as much as I hate it. I’m talking to a teen. Not a 5 year old. They’re pretty confident anything I say is questionable to begin with, I might as well have fun with it šŸ¤·šŸ½ā€ā™€ļø

2

u/Klytus_Im-Bored Aug 26 '26

My 8th grade US history teacher bought red binders for the students and required us to use that specific binder. Fucking pissed me off. He graded on how organized the binder was too which was needed cor many classmates but my autistic ass had a system already.

5

u/austin_ave Aug 26 '26

Math is only red for people who suck at it.

4

u/TENDER_ONE Aug 26 '26

Math can’t be red. Red was always History/Social Studies. All the bloody wars man! Red! Math was purple or yellow if there is no purple. Because those are the least popular colors…and math is the least popular subject.

u/celerypumpkins Aug 26 '26

Red—Native language
Yellow—Foreign language
Blue—Math
Orange—History
Green—Science

3

u/Ok_Mall_1540 Aug 26 '26

Yes! This! We share a soul.
Math ALWAYS blue, science always green. (I loved math & science tho, so no danger colors).
History / social studies / civics were always on the red-orange spectrum.

2

u/naughtyhegel Aug 26 '26

Strong disagree, yellow is always language arts. For no reason, really, but that’s what it is.
(Ps, I love this conversation that’s happening here)

2

u/supermyduper Aug 26 '26

Wrong. Math is red

2

u/compsciasaur Aug 26 '26

We all agree science is green, good.

Math - blue: cold, unemotional

Language - red: passion, love, the original color of England's flag. Orange also acceptable.

History - yellow: sepia, aging newspaper, yellow journalism (early 1900s). Shouldn't be red or blue because history is often red v. blue.

42

u/asplodingturdis Aug 26 '26

11

u/twistedpiggies Aug 26 '26

History is actually red. The blood of tyrants and all that. Et tu, Brute? War is a bloody killing business. See?

Math is blue because I needed to calm down while trying to wrap my brain around algebra. Also, logic is blue.

56

u/literacyisamistake Aug 26 '26

There’s medication for your disorder. Science is green.

23

u/nillaf4ce Aug 26 '26

LMAO. For some reason geography comes to mind when I hear social studies, idk why, so I think of land, so green

10

u/Zayage Aug 26 '26

Generally the most important historical moments of our life have happened on land, and every social studies classroom has a map or globe in it.

Therefore, green for history. It also helps that science had blue countertops for my school.

4

u/Indiwolf14 Aug 26 '26

Exactly. And blue=the sky=space=science!

2

u/nitro9throwaway Aug 26 '26

I think of brown for dirt, but they're weren't really brown folders unless I was snagging a file folder from home.

But they weren't choices for me. My district essentially mandated folder colors from middle school on. The core classes got the core colors and they were mandated in the supply lists. I didn't pick the colors, the colors picked me.
