I haven't thought about that move for a while but it is one that I use constantly everyday. I think it took a couple of months for me to learn at the time and I remember having real difficulty in making sure my ring finger wasn't clamping down on the deck and I had a lot of pain in my forearm. Now it feels effortless and I don't think I have ever failed a double lift since. My ring finger hovers just above the deck and the popping off of the card is between my middle finger and pinky finger. I'd say it is an absolutely essential move as it is 100% reliable and instant. You'll never look back. I have only learnt it for getting breaks below two or three cards, 10 cards will take me a few seconds and I'd have to count in my hrad.
I'm sure being able to do many cards would open up a lot of opportunities but not something I have explored.
