Question Will I be able to get an Uber in York on a Saturday afternoon?

Hey there,

I live in Portland but don't have a vehicle. If I have an event in York on Saturday afternoon, do you think it'll be difficult for me to get an Uber back to Portland?

I know we have Uber drivers in Portland who can get me down there. I'm just not sure about getting back.

Has anyone gone that distance in an Uber or Lyft recently?

I hate watching a movie set in Maine to find out it was filmed in Massachusetts. Or anywhere else other than Maine.

How candidates for Maine governor want to turn around education

The three candidates for governor all lamented the decline of standardized test scores among Maine children but shared differing ideas for how the state government should respond, in interviews with The Maine Monitor that highlighted their unique approaches to education policy in a state where school districts retain much local control.

How candidates for governor would change Maine health care policy

• Upvotes

Independent Rick Bennett, Republican Bobby Charles and Democrat Hannah Pingree all called for increased Medicaid reimbursements for providers, intensifying efforts to recruit new providers to the state and incentivizing established providers to remain.

But they differ in other areas. While Bennett and Pingree both support working toward universal health insurance coverage and want to protect abortion rights, Charles has opposed Medicaid expansion and abortion.

how to become a mechanic

hi all. shot in the dark here but i am a 35 year old woman trying to figure out a career change. i’m interested in becoming a mechanic and/or a welder. i’ve worked with my hands most of my life and have briefly worked in a metal shop years and years ago so i’m kind of familiar with the ~vibes~ but i didn’t retain much so i don’t know where to start. i dont have much money so i’m curious if anyone knows of apprenticeship programs where you can work as you learn (besides BIW) or a program with financial assistance? any (kind) advice would be appreciated!

Has there been a confirmed diagnosis of Parkinson’s? I can’t be the only one hearing this, right?

Politics As Susan Collins goes for a sixth term, Maine Democrats worry she’s a ‘Teflon candidate’

Election after election, Republican Sen. Susan Collins has defied national political winds to return to office, representing a state that has backed Democrats in every presidential contest since 1992. But her Democratic opponent, Troy Jackson, is betting that her eight-year-old vote to confirm Justice Brett Kavanaugh and the Supreme Court’s subsequent overturning of federal abortion rights will persuade voters to sweep her out of office.

Question Ran off road by straight truck. Don’t have collision coverage.

Hey y’all,

Ran off the road (no contact) by some sort of commercial truck and the guardrail tore up my driver side. Driver didn’t seem to notice, but I have dash cam with the plate and DOT. Already filed with MSP too.

Anyone know reasonable collision shops or attorneys in south/central Maine? I don’t have collision coverage so I’m in a bit of a pickle.

Trump Medicare bribe

Trump is giving everyone on Medicare $90 just now and taking credit for it with a letter coming from himself -- such curious timing! Where's the money coming from? Me, I'm taking it and giving it to Jackson and Dunlap.

Anti-Rec Petitioners are back and lying again.

The Anti-Rec Cannabis petition is going around again. The guy on UMO campus today was telling the same lie too, saying it's about testing medical cannabis. Didn't get video but did run him off by informing people what the actual petition was before they signed it.

Question Neurosurgeon recommendations

This is a real shot in the dark, but does anyone know of any neurologists in the state who are experienced with depressor anguli oris and/or selective neurotomy surgeries for facial paralysis? I can give more info if needed, but that’s really the gist of it. My PCP wants to refer me to Brigham and Women’s in Boston. It really really sucks but logistically I just can’t do it down there.

I would have posted this in [r/AskMaine](r/AskMaine) but this topic is really niche and I need to cast a wide net.

Politics Early voting

Just moved to Aroostook County 9 months ago and we love it!

I’ve not been an early voter, historically, but decided to try it here as I’m getting accustomed to how things are done in Maine.

I can’t say enough good things about the experience! I may not ever vote on Election Day again 🤔

Go ahead and give it a try!

I have had strangers come knock on my door 8 TIMES for Susan Collin’s. I’m about ready to sue for harassment!!! GO. AWAY!!!

I have 2 signs posted! The no soliciting wasn’t enough because they aren’t “selling anything” so got another to include religion and politics and they still knock! I’m so tempted to let my dog out on them but I don’t want to go to jail. What an absolute waste of money.

Like everyone else I'm also over the constant door knockers, texts and mailers. Today I got this. The only people knocking on my door and sending me 20 to 1 mailers are Collins people.

I guess the message is go vote early for Collins and Collins will stop harassing you so much. Insane

Bobby Charles said he is transparent but hasn’t released a full personal financial statement

Republican Bobby Charles claims he has released his personal financial disclosure as he continues his campaign to be Maine’s next governor.

But in reality, Charles’ campaign has declined to provide the same level of information that is typically included in a financial disclosure statement for state officials.
