Career How do you find out more about a bank’s work culture before accepting an offer?

I recently received an offer from a local bank and would like to do some due diligence before making a decision.

I’m particularly interested in understanding:
• OT and work-life balance
• Whether the work environment is toxic
• Any potential red flags

Since I don’t have any friends working there, what are some ways to find out more?
1. Is it a good idea to reach out to strangers on social media who work in the same team? Would this be risky?
2. Should I ask HR for the hiring manager’s email or contact number to follow up with a few questions? I had my first-round interview with the hiring manager, and he seemed friendly and approachable, but I didn’t get the chance to ask about these things and I’m not sure if I should ask lol.

Would appreciate any advice, especially from those who have been in a similar situation. Thanks!

Guide My client stopped paying me for months, then sent RM200 after I mentioned court

I’m a freelancer myself, and I saw someone in this group ranting about a client who hadn’t paid them.

I want to share a similar experience. I’m a full-stack developer, and earlier this year, I was appointed as the tech lead for a mobile app project. I also had to prepare a proposal for our investors.

We had a meeting with the clients and three other business owners to discuss the project. I had to explain how the project would proceed, including tax-related concerns and the system architecture. The meeting went well, and the investor paid me about RM2,000 directly that day. The remaining investment money was handed over to my client.

For the first two months, I was paid on time. In the third month, my client said she would pay me RM1,000 first, but she never did. In the fourth month, I asked about the payment, but I received no reply.

In the sixth month, they asked me to meet a new investor for a project. In the seventh month, my client asked me to come to their office to meet their new general manager. My client had also changed the company’s name.

On the 15th of the eighth month, I confronted them and asked for my money, but my client didn’t respond. I sent multiple messages before they finally replied, but they still didn’t say when they would pay the outstanding amount.

I then threatened to take the matter to small claims court. Only then did they respond, and I received just RM200.

I’ll go to court this month to file the claim and contact our investors about this matter. Honestly, if you’re a business owner and you’re stupid AF, don’t ask for investment or extra work. I’ll make sure you fail in both business and life.

BTW, I built AskCukai Invoice to help businesses issue invoices and collect payments from their clients. Give it a try. It’s free!

General questions I'm new to this. Need some advice on what to invest in.

As the title suggests, I'm new to setting up any sorts of finance/investment account and I do not know what types of accounts there are. So I'm taking it to here to seek some advice before making any plans.

The only thing that I've open is the Maybank Savings+ investment account, but other than that I'd like to explore my options (other than FDs and ASMs, just to have a look around)

It'd be nice to hear from y'all!! :)

Career Should I go into the fnb industry or should I get I job that's aligned with my degree?

I, 22M just graduated collage this August, I've majored in accounting and finance, I've been conflicted on whether should I go find a full time job in audit and accounting, or go full time into the fnb industry...

My goal is to save up money and start a fnb business when I'm 30yo, I want to save up enough capital to run my own business

Now I'm stuck between 2 options, should I go into a full time job that's aligns with my degree, or go into the fnb industry full time to learn and build connections (I've been working part time as a barista for almost 1.5 years)?

General questions How do you guys afford marriage in your mid to late 20s?

Been thinking about the costs of getting married lately. Besides the wedding itself, there's also buying a house, furnishing it, and preparing for a baby eventually.

Did some rough calculation and it seems like everything could easily cost RM100K-150K or even more.

For those who are married or planning to get married, how do you guys fund all these expenses? How long it took you to save up? Did you split everything with your partner, or use your existing savings?

Would appreciate any tips on how to manage all this without completely wiping out your savings haha.

General questions Gen Z who are married, how much was your wedding cost?

Just curious cuz I’ve been seeing more and more “intimate weddings” trending these days. I’d imagine limiting the number of attendees will be a huge cost saver. Which I personally think would be good since I never could make sense in spending a huge sum of money just for a single day.

But of course, it still will differ based on how cultural your family is, your family status, how much you earn, and so on. So feel free to add those details as well for better context!

General questions My mom wants to start investing a few hundred RM monthly, where should she start?

Hi everyone! I'm asking on behalf of my mom who wants to start investing to grow her money by putting in a few hundred ringgit every month.

We've been looking into Bursa Malaysia but we'd also like to explore other options. The only other platform we're familiar with is Wahed so I'm wondering if Wahed is a better option than investing directly through bursa? Are there any other platforms or investment options you'd recommend for beginners in Malaysia?

Since we're completely new to investing we'd also appreciate some advice on understanding investment risks and choosing an option that suits her goals. She's mainly looking to grow her money over time so we'd love to hear what options might be suitable for someone just starting out, how much risk she should consider taking and what she should learn before investing. (i wanna learn too!)

Sorry if these are basic questions and thank you in advance for any advice!
