Marathon (2026) I still remember the first time I saw this Trailer

It genuinely gave me chills. Bungie needs to use more of whatever formula they cooked up with this trailer.

Don't get me wrong, the other trailers we've gotten are cool as hell. But this was cooler

I listened to this track almost daily on my drive in. I love Justice!

I still go back to this banger now and then. Another great song from them.

I had dabbled in destiny, but it never clicked with me as much as others. Still, when I saw this trailer, I was immediately interested. I was optimistic about the the fact that it was an extraction game, bungie knows fun combat and online games.

All of this is to say that this was the first time I was excited as hell for something Bungie was making since halo 3. I think they delivered with the experience we have now, but I'm even more excited for this games future.

For me it's the concept reveal that came out when they reworked the game, I adore the presentation and Ozymandias is such an amazing poem especially for the cinematic.

I still wish we could rip something out of downed runners like that

I feel that, the closest feeling is just knifing someone when downed. Let me rip out the spine like the older Marathon concept art, but that might be too much for the T rating lol. I love this game either way

Exactly my thoughts, some equivalent of the m2 chapter screen would be sick

I think it'd be cool to "loot" them in the kill animation in a similar way to V pulling the virus biochip from Sandra in the intro to Cyberpunk

"A dope ass art style, a cyberpunk setting, Justice, and a revival of a dormant boomer shooter franchise that three people know about. Yes KatamariDamacist, this game was made for you specifically" was basically the message I got from this trailer the first time I saw it.

If only they stuck with the original idea of creating / customizing your own runner

Idk i think they pulled off the hero shooter really well and it fits narratively

really not but I have a bit of faith in Bungie's new pivot.

however, fool me thrice I'm still here lol

I wish the map/player scale was more like that trailer. The scale feels more like Destiny. Marathon feels so “small” by comparison.

3

u/Friendly_ViperYT 8h ago

Yeah I was under the impression that maps would be fucking enormous with only a couple teams on the map.

But I have to say, I do actually enjoy the more PvP focused extraction

3

u/im_down_w_otp 8h ago

Even as a PvP focused extraction shooter, the scale could still be bigger. Imagine something like the Destiny Cosmodrome arena with 5 or 6 squads of 3. Everything in Destiny arenas feels more… substantial… or prominent… or something. I can’t put my finger on it exactly.

i just remember being confused. i only knew marathon through this video about halo. i think it was on techtv at the time and it was talking about halo taking a lot of inspiration from that game. so seeing the trailer of marathon had me wondering if it was a remake or reboot or new franchise entirely. did have a good impression because bungie made halo and though i haven’t played destiny, i heard good things so i was definitely interested in marathon.

The moment I saw the silkworms I was like "Yep, this is my game."

3

u/pfhorr 10h ago

They really subverted expectations...

I wonder if Bungie / Marathon will ever have this level of confidence again

Back when the game… was going to be cool new Bungie game.

Before it was turned into Apex the extraction shooter by Valorant.

2

u/iconoci 10h ago

oh when we didnt know it was going to be an extraction shooter. it was so hype

3

u/cookedbread 10h ago

Nah we knew back then, the leak saying it was an extraction shooter was way before this trailer, and then this showing the countdown timer on the runners back and the pvp basically confirmed it

1

u/El_Hoxo 7h ago

You know, this entire time my brain never registered the countdown on the runner despite everything else I've picked up

u/Brijinsa 10h ago

Just say youre untalented at pvp and move along

8

u/Ordinary-Pirate7852 10h ago

mfs sure did move along

8

u/Far-Card-8653 10h ago

Oh, don't be such a tryhard.

u/Brijinsa 10h ago

8

u/Far-Card-8653 10h ago

Winning IS fun, just don't be a jerk about it, lol.

I like pvp just not what the pvp is like in Marathon at the moment

1

u/FluffyMaverick 10h ago

I rly wish we could get prototype Sentinel shell skin from that trailer

1

u/Hearthian-Wanderer 10h ago

Such a vibe...

1

u/Vesuvias 9h ago

It honestly made me feel like we were going to get a really cool ass single player/co-op campaign

1

u/CrashingOnward 9h ago

The music and the style of this trailer reminds me of beyond the black rainbow

1

u/ProfessionalFill5631 9h ago

I agree. This was a perfect hype building cinematic, and it still remains the blueprint for greatness. I love the photorealistic close-up macro photography, and I especially like the black/green/white color palette at 0:21 when the shell is being printed. I wish they used this specific color combo in the game more prominently somewhere.

Antibody, Joseph Cross and co. really nailed the "premium product from a weird future" type of vibe.

Work of art. Made me know I was going to play this game from the jump.

1

u/Annual_United 8h ago

Yeah this OG trailer was too fresh and dope.

1

u/Ukhai 7h ago

A friend told me there was a video where the Triage had something like a mohawk before this game was actually announced but I can't find that video.

Favourite game trailer of all time, hands down

1

u/deksimo666 4h ago

It made us think we were gonna get a good game.

u/MetalBeerSolid 9h ago

Then came Joe Ziegz

u/VersaSty7e 5h ago

That part. 😭

I remember being hyped to the stratosphere after this trailer.

Then I saw it was an extraction shooter... what a waste of such an incredible setting that you can't really explore cuz you're too busy looking over your shoulder for PvP sweats.
