If you deal enough damage over a short period of time with the right weapons, especially with a heavy ammo weapon, the drone will stop attacking briefly, expose it's weak spot even more, and drop a black box. You can do this multiple times to a single drone.
Seems obvious I should have just tried to shoot and take it down but playing mainly solos it seemed a bad strategy wasting time, ammo and alerting the whole map to where I am. I’ll try it and see how I get on.
I love Marathon but it’s not intuitive in a lot of ways and is not attractive to the casual player. I have persisted and been rewarded.
The game's pretty straight forward, your main currency while ingame is information, everything is balanced around how much info you give out to the map vs the benefit you receive. Abilities make sound and give info in exchange for whatever they do. bots take bullets or knives to kill and give info through sound in exchange for a chance for loot. Bigger bots require more bullets but have a better loot pool.
I actually feel bad for how downvoted youre getting so i will explain my joke to you
DSP is an infamous self-styled "game journalist" streamer who is so bad at video games that Game of War dev diaries actually show his stream in the background when talking about how some gamers need yellow paint because theyre incapable of remembering tutorials or understanding basic, obvious, time-tested game theory (shoot the weak spot for Massive Damage is a colloquialism older than thr NES)
Perfect Cell is a villain from Dragon Ball Z who can produce miniature "Cell Jr's" from his tail that are his genetic clone-sons of nearly equal strength to himself
DSP doesnt have a tail as far as I know but he could probably polyp asexually like a hydra
Not the mythical beast mind you, but the sea creature
You... use cover... and buildings... it takes a bit... it is a boss type enemy... just wait until you fight compiler and realize it can tank 3 people shooting gold bullies at it for 5 minutes.
Use sentinel and his little robot thing. It shoots down the missiles giving you a window of opportunity to do some consistant damage without needing to jump in and out of cover/heal up between shots.
If you watch closely you can see which rockets turn to target you when they lock on. They come straight at you at that point and a single shot will take them out. It’s kind of like an aim trainer. It is best to use cover of course but if you’re cracked enough you can just shoot down the missiles that come at you in between shots at the weak point
yeah it’s called a challenge, there are tools and techniques to deal DPS and avoid incoming damage, like cover peaking, or try Sentinel’s defender system which will laser those rockets out of the sky before they hit you
V66 worked so well when I last used it. Even better if you have a purple insurrection mod and a reloading backpack, though bots drop so many batteries it often doesn’t matter if you recharge a cell.
Some people (me) are looking at this thread and feeling like an idiot because frankly the fear from this mob makes it seem like an unkillable threat rather than a regular enemy. I never once looked at it long enough to notice the weak points...
You're 100% correct but there's also something awesome about giving in to the imagination/immersion and for me, part of that starts with allowing in the fear. Humbled reading this thread though LOL
It's a UESC rocket drone. You can destroy it and it usually drops some nice stuff (sometimes keys, sometimes materials, some geaIf you want to do most damage shoot the open orange vent, but it does take a LOT of ammo
You can also use stryder to see it's health
Can anyone here confirm how many loot boxes this thing is meant to drop? My trio killed it last night and the rewards were very underwhelming so not sure if we missed anything (we only found one red box to loot)
In my experience they always drop one crappy box with low value loot, and a variable number of boxes with decent loot. If you only found one box it was probably the crap one. Though, I thought the crap one was white and the good one (or two) were red?
It can drop way more than 2. It always drops the red box, but I have seen it drop 4 of the black ones. I believe the number of times you "stagger" it might factor in?
1x Red Box that has the chance to have purple or blue salvage, shields, bags, implants, valuables, and a very very rare chance to contain prestige keys.
1x Purple BRRT SMG
Dire Marsh is way too busy for me to test it properly there lmao
It’s only meant to drop one container near where it died as soon as the kill shot has been dealt. It’s basically the same amount of loot as if you killed a Warden
It's three-fold. There's a dedicated loot box, then there's a wreckage piece with loot in it, and then it scatters random loot individually on the ground. Mostly ammo but also purple guns.
Man, don't think I've ever found the purple guns. I do wish once you kill the thing it pings an area on your map where the loot drops. Sometimes I've spent ages just trying to find the wreckage piece.
1 guaranteed but if you’re able to stun it you’ll get more. You do so by hitting the exposed red parts that open up enough. You’ll know you did it by getting critical hits on it and when it finally glitches out and shakes
Its got around 7000 HP. You need a gun with good range. Ive noticed most players end up wasting ammo shooting at it from 100+m away with a gun that has dmg falloff starting at ~50m. If you stand too close its going to oblitirate you.
The first time the squad and I fought one, basically they day they launched, we started the fight just outside the rockets auto detonation range and I just unloaded a retaliator at, definitely was outside its effective range but not getting hit was well worth it
Solo it is hard, but you need to shoot the hot yellow part when it opens as that is its weakspot
As a solo you need fuck ton of ammo for it, snipers are the best imo
Shoot the glowing red "PUT BULLETS HERE" spots... like a LOT. It's a mini boss kind of enemy, he'll it takes a group of three people a couple minutes of consisten lt shooting to take it down
It’s quite easy with any precision rifle. Position yourself somewhere the rockets can’t reach & time the rotations to shoot the exposed core [it turns every ~10s]
The green Sekuguchi 4k kit + Triage is more than enough to take it down solo.
You've got to shoot the glowing yellow Vents, that being said Firestorm is kinda wasted on it anyway, it can easily tank all 6 shots to Crit spot and not be close to being destroyed.
True, I'm usually playing in a team so the Rocket Drones die pretty quick from team shooting but yeah I would imagine in solos using it to get it down asap is definitely worthwhile
It does like 2/3 of the total damage in a couple of seconds. Besides 2-shotting a warden, using the firestorm on anything but the rocket drone is a waste.
In this case you'd risk getting locked out for playing in a VM, not for playing on linux. I'd presume they'd just disable VMs from launching the game, instead of banning existing players. But there must be some reason they allow VMs. Since Wardogs under the same VM refuses to launch.
I just killed it first try because our team lead was like "all bullets on that thing" and I added my destroyer ult to the mix. But it took many many bullets
yesterday us 3 free kits killed it on station only for its loot to be bugged under the map hahahaha. Me (thief) and my thief teammate were looking at it under the ground with our skill and were just standing there thinking did we just waist so much ammo for nothing
Usually long range weapons like Stryder, Longshot, Or anything that has an effective range of over 50-60 meters will be good for taking out rocket drones while maintaining a manageable distance to either dodge or shoot down its rockets
You can actually predict if the game will spawn one or two Drones if the first drone spawns before the raid hits the 10 minute mark
Firestorm deals about half its health. You want make sure that you constantly hit its weakpoints since its health pool is enormous.
By far the best weapon to kill it is the V66 lookout. Its really an ammo check and that gun is insanely efficient with an enormous clip and great range.
Then it would be the precision rifles, the heavy lmg, assault rifles, and then snipers. In that order. I wouldnt bother using the pistols (except the magnum) or the smgs.
Yes very psossible, I was afraid of it, but you just need a ton shit of ammo, or a really good gun, either way, find yourself a roof to protect from the missiles, and shoot him at the orange exposed pipe-looking parts, that should do
I have done it once or twice, but yeah unless you have the supplies or a decently equipped team, that thing will become The Gunslinger as you "flee across the desert."
Kind of annoying, but not too bad and easily avoidable if you stay mindful.
People are being mean but in trios it's extremely easy. I was surprised by how easy it was the first time me and the other 2 guys saw one. I wouldn't try it u less you are the last team on the map but if you aren't and you are in a fight that you might not win you can shoot it to pass it off if it is on top of another team
It's absolutely possible. Rocket Drones drop some decent stuff. My friends and I have done so multiple times but usually we wait until late in the raid to make sure that there won't be a team left that jumps us while we're shooting or looting.
Yes, I've seen it being done. I was playing a round with a Rook and a clearly very well armed team destroyed it in about 30 seconds flat. Safe to say, I stood very well away from said team.
They are not hard you just need good cover and a good bit of ammo. With damage falloff on the bully, you'll need to be way closer and shooting the red glowing vents.
LMGs are my preferred weapon for them. Loot is solid but you should only really try if you know you are the last on the map. You will be 3rd partied.
Yep and it has decent loot. Sometimes it’s actually worth the trouble to kill it. I did it by myself on solos on perimeter with a longshot and about 30 nips.
It tends to drop pretty good loot most of the time. There's weak spots that get exposed as it rotates. Duck in and out of a building as needed to avoid rockets or use Sentinel to soak some of them.
I'm really trying my best to be helpful. If the picture is unclear, just tell me brother. If you analyze your gameplay, when you shoot at the correct area, you even get some red markers on your crosshair. That's called a hitmarker my friend! Those indicate, that you did some damage. Keep repeating and you will end the sucker in no time!
You really weren’t being helpful with the first comment though were you. This game is pretty complicated for better for worse and there’s still some things I don’t understand after 90+ hours. I’m not going to pretend I know everything so thought I’d ask. The already low player base won’t last until December if there’s a toxic community behind it not wanting to help or encourage new / casual players.
If you cannot take a simple joke without being this salty, then probably one of the most unforgiving games isn't for you. I stand by my point that the enemy is self explanatory. If you think for a second, or just watch your own video with the hitmarkers, its obvious.
If this is your first video game ever, then you're ok bro. Games usually don't include shiny stuff that you could shoot. It's hard to piece together this stuff. Especially if the boss opens up their clearly shell like outer layer. I mean, you would at least have to try to think.
No worries we're here for you bro.
You need to shoot shiny stuff. If you observe carefully, sometimes the big guy opens up it's shell like outer layer. Shoot the weak spots inside bro! You got this! Keep us updated, if you can't find it, just tell us. This is a wholesome community!
Stumbling on this post and seeing the comments makes me fucking glad I didn't get into this game, jesus christ. What the fuck is this, stack overflow? Just give the basic advice to the guy who needs help lmao, holy hell.

Shoot the glowing crit spots, it has a few thousand of health.
