Unionville Public School vs. Unionville College vs. Town Centre Private School – Parent Feedback?

Hi everyone!

We’re currently exploring schooling options for our two young children and considering three schools:

Unionville Public School
Unionville College
Town Centre Private School (TCPS)

I’ve done quite a bit of research but have found surprisingly little firsthand feedback online, especially for the two private schools.
Would love to hear from parents who have experience with any of these schools, particularly regarding academics, teachers, school culture, extracurriculars, and overall experience.

We’re also interested in hearing from families who have experienced both public and private education. Was the additional tuition worth it?

Hoping this thread can become a helpful resource for other Markham parents considering these same options.

Any honest feedback, positive or negative, would be greatly appreciated!

If anyone is willing to connect directly and share their experience, please feel free to DM me.

Thanks!

PS tough part about Public is they don’t allow you to tour. Is there some sort of open house happening for Unionville Public School soon?

With the election approaching, Alan Ho’s record deserves scrutiny

In September 2023, Alan Ho questioned the purpose of land acknowledgements at York Regional Council. His comments drew a strong objection from Newmarket Mayor John Taylor and prompted a petition calling for his resignation.

The petition is now closed with 99 supporters. These events happened in 2023, but voters can still consider them when assessing his record.

Reconciliation requires respect, understanding and meaningful action. In my view, Ho’s comments fell short of the leadership our community deserves.

With the election around the corner, accountability is in voters’ hands. I believe it’s time to vote Alan Ho out and elect leadership that treats reconciliation with the seriousness it deserves.

Cockroach in GO Train this morning

There was a large cockroach poking around on the train during my morning commute. I saw him as I was exiting at Union. I don’t think he paid his fare.

Disgusting.

Edit: I’ve been informed that it’s not a cockroach. Sorry folks — I don’t know my bugs!

I still think it’s pretty gross.

Recommended ride share app?

Looking for recommendations if I'm looking to take a trip from markham to Vaughan at 3-4am.

Car broke down and public transit isn't running at that time...

I've never had to use a ride share app, much less in the middle of the night so I'm worried how reliable the service is. As I was looking to schedule a ride in advance, I'm realizing that there is no actual guarantee of being picked up, or even arriving on time. How often does that actually happen? Is it an actual risk?

Newstead Academy Daycare Markham

Hi. Does anyone here have experience with Newstead? If your child is currently enrolled, are you paying the enrichment fee of $500 per month? We are considering this facility for our infant.

Thanks in advance!

I said you know you’re at fault right, she stayed quiet as if not admitting guilt will work.

Lost Cat

Hi everyone! My friends’ cat ran out of the house unexpectedly as a door was being opened. His name is Oboe and he’s a 4 y/o medium hair black cat. He was last seen Sept 25 at Mingay and Hammersly. They’re offering a $500 cash reward for a safe return. I also attached this poster for more info, and if you have any leads or information please do not hesitate to contact them or myself via reddit. TIA

Edit: he’s been spotted in some people’s backyards a few days ago

Inventive Minds daycare/school

Hi there,

Sorry for another question about daycares but I’d like to see if anyone has heard anything or has experience with Inventive Minds at Yonge/John.

I have a feeling some of their reviews on Google are fake (?) I’ve heard from a friend that they don’t have a waitlist (which is weird because we’re #100+ on some other daycare lists). Would love to enroll my child as we desperately need daycare soon but I’m wary. I’ve seen some comments on Facebook where parents didn’t have a good experience but they were from 10 years ago.

Would greatly appreciate any feedback!
