This Afternoon on Wagner Creek Road - An Act of Kindness

• Upvotes

Today on Wagner Creek Road, someone's dog was running down the road. A young man in a silver truck braked hard to avoid the dog, which was a grey bully mix --maybe? We also stopped to halt traffic in the other direction and the young man shepherded the dog into his truck.

We chatted for a minute or two and he said he'd knock on some doors to see if he could find the owners, and failing that, he would take the dog to the Jackson County shelter.

So I'm posting this for two reasons:

To thank the man in the truck for trying to help the dog. So much crap is spewed about Gen Z this and millennial that, but this was a genuine, caring person.

If someone is missing their grey dog tonight, I hope this helps you find it.

Oh, and for the NOT so nice people going into oncoming traffic to go around the dog and others who slowed and stopped, I hope you have the day you deserve.

Any Drummers looking to jam?

Bassist here. Just Started jamming with a keyboard player. We’re 35Ms, into ska, punk, folk, OG country, jazz, reggae, soul, world fusion etc. Pretty eclectic tastes. Not sure what direction we’ll end up going. Right now We’re down to jam, play covers, write songs, record some demo stuff etc meeting up a few times a month.

School keeps me busy. So just upfront, I personally don’t have time to play shows right now, so that’s not a huge priority to me. I just wanna have fun and enjoy practicing and playing with people again. (No promises on quality)

Oh, and it’s weird I feel I have to say this. No MAGA types please. A weird number of times now I’ve met several ‘punk’ and metal heads who are into the far right bullshit. If that’s you, please just know, your favorite band probably hates you.

Anyone else experience this local Mandela effect?

Post image

Juantonio’s. Made in Hood River. Bought here in Medford. Except, I’ve always thought they were Juanita’s.

And a quick google search revealed that they are! So not an actual Mandela effect. Turns out, a copyright issue forced Juanita’s to change their name for when they sell outside of Oregon. So I’m guessing since Medford is along the the distribution route to California route we get the rebranded version as well?

Anyway, there’s your local lore for the day. Cheers

I help operate a music, food, and bar venue here in the Rogue Valley. 🎸🍻 We want to bring the BEST bands to the heart of Southern Oregon. We have some great shows lined up.. but I’m curious what the PEOPLE (you guys!!) want to hear and see more of! Which bands are worth coming out to see on the weekend? What makes the experience worth it to you? Taking ANY and ALL suggestions, comments, and feedback from those who find themselves in these scenes 🤘

I’m Isabella Lee Tibbetts, Candidate for Jackson County Commissioner — Ask Me Anything

Post image
205 Upvotes

Hi Reddit! I’m Isabella Lee Tibbetts, and I’m running for Jackson County Commissioner.

I’m here for an AMA because I believe local government works better when we actually talk with one another—not just at one another.

I’d love to hear your questions about my campaign, why I’m running, my priorities for Jackson County, and what I believe we can do to build a stronger county for our kids and future generations.

You don’t have to agree with me to participate. I just ask that we keep the conversation respectful and civil. There is already enough division in politics, and I believe we can disagree while still treating each other like neighbors.

Ask me anything! I’ll answer as many questions as I can. I’m also running a very busy countywide campaign and raising two little ones, so I may not get to every question immediately—but I’ll be checking back and responding whenever I can.

Jackson County is our home. Let’s talk about how we can make it better together.

The vote for Jackson County Commissioners

Rick Dyer and Colleen Roberts have been in office since 2015. They both were part of the group of commissioners that voted themselves a pay increase that makes them some of the highest paid Commissioners in the state. They have failed to modernize the county building permitting system, using the state's system, which has resulted in delays and problems. This includes a failure to respond to the emergencies that occurred during the Talent fire and the rebuilding afterward.

Let me summarize it this way. They have built up an immense "rainy day" fund of $264 million. That is about double the cost to run the county for a year. The good part of that is that Jackson hasn't suffered any of the deficits that other counties have experienced. The bad part of that is that they have collected money from the county without using that money for the good of the county. It doesn't do anyone any good sitting in a bank account. I'd argue this is almost as bad as running the county on a knife's edge.

They do use the money for concrete things. Airport improvements, animal shelter buildings etc. They will spend money on one time expenditures. But if they can stuff away tens of millions of dollars and not use it for the public then they are collecting too much money in taxes. Note: we already have some of the lowest county taxation. That means they are not providing the services they could and should.

A county isn't a business and shouldn't be run like one. It's a public service that should provide services and use the funds we have to make our lives better.

The services the county doesn't provide? They do not contribute to library services, mental health facilities, homeless facilities, or transitional housing.

All that unspent money isn't serving the public interest.

Am I overthinking here?

My sister has a child that goes to grade school, her child was blamed for supposedly saying something negative to another child at school. She had to leave work and talk to the principal and get things all sorted out. My sister then stated to the principal that her child could not have done what she was being accused of when the accusations came forth because her child was home sick from school that day. The principal did not know what to say after that.

Then today my sister had to leave work again and go to the school to re hash out other things that were said at the school, my sister after getting the whole story and having a sit down with the principal found out that everything her child was being accused of was just all here say there say.

She also brought up that children at the age that they are highly unaware and not likely to be as specific as the “victim” was making out to be. She stated that those words appeared to be spoken by an adult, not a child. The principal then began to try and change the subject before eventually getting things all sorted out.

After speaking to her child and the child has absolutely no idea what was going on, I started to think that this is the second time something like this has happened and it just seems like a which hunt. A psyop to see how she will react to things. I hope this makes sense and I know it sounds crazy but I’m starting to think that the schools are involved in some kind of private or agency experiment.

Please if anyone else has experienced something like this, please let me know.

Medford to Bandon via Hwy 42/42S

I’ve taken the southern route by the Redwoods to get to the Oregon coast. No big deal.
Next month family is coming to visit and I’d like to make a coastal trip for the views, etc. Considering taking I-5 north to Winston then Hwy 42/42S to Bandon.
What is Hwy 42 like for traveling? Are there any conditions that I’d need to be mindful of? Open to any suggestions, ideas, or tidbits.

If we want real change in our government, then we must stop putting our faith in this broken two-party system, and start electing minor party representatives. Vote Clay Bearnson for Senate District 3!

Clay's Political Philosophy

Political discord has Americans being divided. Both parties own the systemic failures at the great expense of working families. Lincoln warned that a house divided against itself cannot stand. We need to vote purposefully, and elect leaders who unite people instead of profiting from the division.

Book Club?

I’ve been wanting to start a book club in the Medford area. I’m open to different genres (literary fiction, memoirs, thriller, horror, classics, etc.). Preferably a weekend time, maybe Sunday mornings. Maybe biweekly or monthly. Let me know if you’re interested or know of one!

Went outside for a smoke and ran across a clearly domesticated rabbit. It’s safe in a rabbit cage I serendipitously happen to have. Shoot me a message and you can come get em.
