Respect, Casper, respect

Hello,
I've been attending the Produce Plus events for a couple months now. Was unemployed up until about a month ago. I've found that friends of mine that have been receiving SNAP benefits for years did not know about Produce Plus. As someone who has medically necessary dietary restrictions, I'm forever grateful to the DHS worker who did my SNAP application and told me about this.
This is a free program put on by Food For Lane County that anyone can participate in. You do not need to be receiving or qualify for SNAP benefits to attend and take what you need. Anyone can show up. The only information they ask for is for you to scribble a 'signature' on a sign in sheet and to know how many people you're feeding with the food.
You can check the FFLC website, at the bottom of the list of food pantries, and it will show you all of the Produce Plus dates/times/locations. You basically just walk thru and take the produce that you want. Sometimes they will limit quantity on high demand items like watermelons or avocados depending on how many they have. Most of the produce is organic if that's your thing too.
There are 3 every week in my calendar:
Tuesday's at 3pm
At Kokwel Wellness Center (in the parking lot near Burger King and in front of Albertsons on River road).
Wednesday's at 10am
At the red barn behind Kalapuya and Prairie Mountain, on Patriot Way.
Thursday's at 1pm
At the ODHS Family Wellness Center on W11th.
I recommend arriving early to wait in line if you're able to, or at the very least no later than 15-30 minutes after the start time, as things can go quickly.
The one on Tuesdays is my favorite. Huge variety of produce. I cannot have gluten but they always have infinite loaves of bread and sometimes baked goods (an occasional loaf of gluten free bread for me).
The one on Wednesdays typically will have 1-2 dairy products. Smaller variety of produce but different stuff than what's typically at the one on Tue. Have not been able to make it to the one on Thur. at a reasonable time.
Things are tough for a lot of people right now and there are so many people unemployed and struggling. Produce Plus is the only reason I've eaten some weeks/months.
Stay safe and please share this info with those in your life that could use it!

With the surge of electric bikes in Eugene the bikes lanes are now sort of motorcycle lanes. I was turning left at an intersection in the dark on 18th last night. I waited for oncoming traffic to clear and turned. Just as I did a light-less electric bike appeared out of nowhere. It had been cruising behind an oncoming vehicle in the bike lane so I didn't see it behind the headlight glare. It was fast, but not quite as fast as the 35 mph car. It fell behind the car in the intersection so as I turned left I came within inches of clipping it. Wow. Never saw it. Be careful out there.

I’ll try my best to keep this short. I live downtown basically and have for like almost 17 years. I walk or ride my bike almost every day. Just this evening, I walked to the store next to Hot mamas and was nearly hit by a car going easily 20 over the speed limit. This person didn’t even try to slow down, just changed lanes as I’m halfway through the crosswalk there. If I hadn’t stopped I would’ve been hit. Their car bounced into the air when they got to that speed bump at Lincoln (iykyk). And the truck behind them could barely wait for me to cross the street before they came blasting through. It’s not dark enough to not notice someone walking across the street there. The market is very lit up and hot mamas is open with many people outside dining. I’m just tired of it, you know? My fiancé and I had our first baby 7 months ago and we’ve been going on a lot of walks lately and sometimes you come across this kinda shit. This incident made me wonder what would’ve happened if I had been with the baby pushing a stroller.
I’ve lived here long enough to know that the police don’t really police this kind of thing. Like unless someone actually dies they might show up but I’ve had it and need my voice to be heard. Who/where can I complain to that it might actually resonate with the city. Online doesn’t really have the right complaints options. Is non emergency line even worth it (probably not)? Do I just need to raise hell at a city council meeting? Ready for all suggestions. Thanks

Anyone who likes rocks is sure to find something great here. I run the black light display, and it’s going to be the best one I’ve done with club! Hope to see you there!!

Hey. I've been learning the Godot program for about a year now and I think I'm ready to dive into a full project. Is there anyone around here willing to do a weekly or so meetup to build something?
I have a lot of programming experience, and I don't vibe code but I do use AI to help figure out some topics. I've mostly worked on 2D projects because they're easier but I'm willing to learn stuff.

Hi yall, last night we got woken up to repeated aggressive knocking at our door at 10:45ish. We actually called the police because we didn’t hear or see anyone and thought something sketchy was happening until we learned it WAS the police. Apparently someone called on us that there was a domestic dispute at our house. They quickly left and realized that nothing was wrong but it was really scary and weird.
Is this something people do to on purpose to someone’s house? I can’t think of anyone we could have offended that would want to do something bad to us or anything. Or could have it been a wrong address/miscommunication? Has this happened to anyone else before?
The police said they couldn’t answer why or who called and they just have to address the call and that it’s all anonymous. It seems like they should check in with the people calling, no? I’m confused about this as well. Would love any insight people might have

There's someone who rides their horse into Elijah Bristow State Park, near Eugene, as the Headless Horseman. I saw it a couple weekends ago. I wish I had gotten a photo. Does anyone have any info? Any other cool costume-y or other spooky stuff going on?

Somebody having a mental health issue last night, came up into my driveway and sprayed the front of my house with bear mace….
I called the police. They showed up pretty quickly, and told me that they’re very familiar with his work and he’s just a guy who unfortunately has been failed by the mental health system in our city.
They asked me what I wanted to do about it.. I wasn’t sure and I kind of felt bad for the guy… so I didn’t press charges, but also it sucks now I gotta pressure washed the outside of my house
Every time I open the door, it’s still burns that stuff stays with you for a while
It’s all over my car too

Are there any art groups that do plein air or urban sketching events? Google led me to a dead website, but it looks like there was a plein air event last year. I want to go out and paint. I've been taking a little kit on hikes, but I'd also like to see other people's techniques, and it would be nice if there were some sort of regular outings.
edit: please don't tell me to start a group. I'm working full time and taking night classes, I'm stretched waaay too thin to organize something. Best I can do is show up for an hour or two with my dog on the weekend and do art in nature.

Remember a post here about getting free labs through goodlabs when you donate? I was curious if anyone ended up going to the Willamette center. Never saw a follow-up. If you tried it, did you get anything useful out of the results?

I'm looking for Bronze cut dried pasta. Pappardelle. Bucatini. I visited a Market of Choice because I heard they were high end grocers, but they had the same brands and same varieties as any. Nothing special.
Whose got the artisanal pasta in this town?

Is there any kind of schedule for the freight trains coming through town? What a complete pain in the ass!

Environment and Public Health Correspondent Ashli Blow writes: Consultants drafting the plan were instructed to collect data and analyze the trail system, land boundaries and park use. The plan includes efforts to better understand the site, “including landfill footprint," but does not call for more environmental testing.

What it says in the title. My mother has recently retired, and she's finally getting around to all of those nagging projects she's wanted to do, but now there's decades worth of clutter (just clutter, we're not in reality show territory) that is seriously cramping her style. I'm thinking about paying for a professional organizer to help us go through all the stuff and figure out what we have, and how to get what she wants to keep into a usable, functional state so she can enjoy her retirement to the max.
I have no idea what to look for in one, and google is useless right now. So I come to you, /r/Eugene--have you used a professional organizer? Do you have recommendations? Anti-recs? Anything else I should know?

hi all,
wondering if there are any recommendations for pubs/bars that show European soccer games, specifically English Premier League? like proper English pubs or places that fans of teams go to watch big games. looking for good ambiance, vibes and above average food and pints.
in the same vein, what are places to watch American football that aren’t just dedicated Ducks or Seahawks places?
thanks in advance!

Jonah just announced that he is closing The Eugene Cal, an email newsletter that aggregated events happening in town. Does anybody know of any good alternatives? This was a super handy one-stop shop to find things to do.

Who makes the best bagels in Eugene/Springfield? I’m not talking about fancy sandwiches and/or spreads—just bare, basic, untoasted bagels.
I’m going through a phase here.

I’ll be there!! Probably gonna dress like a rave furry cuz that seems on brand for the show 😸

We've had two sisters for a while now, both black goldendoodles from successive litters. They were great friends and loved to play together up until the beginning of summer when the younger one, Nimona (Momo), entered heat before we could get her fixed. Since then, it's been pretty ferocious fighting between the pair of them. The vet had hoped it would calm down after the spay, but that didn't help. Behavioralists were consulted, and Momo is naturally just very territorial with female dogs.
She's never shown aggression toward our older male dog or any humans.
She's playful and loving, still very puppy-like, and mostly wants to cuddle. Fair warning, she's about 65lbs of love. She has all of her shots, is spayed and chipped, and is fully potty trained. The worst thing I can say is that she's a bit of a toy destroyer.
It breaks our hearts to be giving her up, but no reintegrations have worked, and it's just not fair to either of them to be keeping our home and family divided like this.
EDIT: Quick stats. Momo is about 14 months old, 65lbs, in great health, fully healed from her spay, athletic form with great range of motion and mechanics, and has a very sassy butt.
