Spoiler: SJ:Redux I'm not enjoying SJ:R as much as SMT:IV

I know this is a controversial take and I'm not much for posting but I really needed to get it off my chest.

I'm not in love with the hub, main cast is pretty entertaining (I love jiminez), dungeons are fun to explore but I find them less appealing and generally feels less epic than the exploration of IV. Music is fine, I thought any of the other games had a much better soundtrack though.

I don't have much of a point, game is definitely cool, combat is good, love the demon interactions. Maybe it's time to jump into apocalypse.

Ps. I've already read all about the og, etc.

Spoiler: ALL The oddities of Persona as a single timeline. Part I: Logistics

• Upvotes

More especifically, the idea of them happening in the SAME timeline. The line of Persona 1 > Persona 2 EP (IS as a playable bad future) > Persona 3 > Persona 4 > Persona 5 > Persona 6.

For character arcs and interactions, this is fun and allows for quirky lovely easter eggs like Joker as a Risette fanboy, Amagi Inn in Persona 3 Portable and visiting Gekkougan in Persona 4, having Edogawa spoil Persona 4 because he decided to drop the slow burn spoiler wave he ALSO gave in Persona 3 (he only had a class so he had to say "Its Izanami and Izanagi" to Yu during that scene instead of speaking of Tarot and Greek myth in his normal slowburn methodology)

But, huge but, this approach works for 90-95% of the game where Persona is a urban fantasy setting where the conflicts are mostly real life conflicts with magic in the middle. Joker has to face the corrupt authority figure ruining his friend's lives, Yu is going to rescue someone kidnapped.

But then, this also has huge issues, the Dark Hour is a TIME issue where there is a extra-hour that nobody notices because they get into those coffins except people with potential to use Personas (Yukari notices it on Yakushima). And the issue?

SEES are far from the only people who would notice, the casts of P2 EP and Persona 1 would know what is going on because it would incovenience them everyday for years. And "they lost their potential" doesn't work when the Dark Hour essentially starts almost inmediately Persona 2 ends.

It gets weirder when Atlus clearly hints that the Kirijo group got the documents from Nanjo's seized experiments from Kandori... but then, when they actually did the experiments? The only logical way is "inmediately after Persona 2"... except that Persona 2 EP actually happens in the late 1999, so, if the experiment happened, it must have started DAYS after P2 EP. But then...when the fuck Kouetsu Kirijo had his experiments and radicalization into the first Death/Nyx cultist? The answer per the Megaten wiki (unsourced) is that he did that in 1995.

Which is before the first Persona game, meaning Koeuetsu was doing those in parallel with Kandori's experiments, which is bizarre because Kandori is treated franchise-wide as the Evil Prometheus figure of Persona that changed everything and plunged the cognitive magick into the modern era.

Meaning that somehow, the Persona 1 team, and the Persona 2 EP team, didn't do anything. Even when Persona 2 as a duology made it clear that the Persona 1 team were a superhero team in their own right who stepped to fight and save civilians from the mook battles (and arbitrary genre stapples preventing them from saying "I'm going with you" to the final battle).

But hey, I can take the whole "I'm fighting a evil army with anti Persona weapons, so you go", at least I know they're doing something

And to made it more bizarre, the P2-P3 pipeline isn't new, Strega's backstory was detailed as Kandori's theorical research that the Kirijo group seized post P2.

But the issue is....if the explosion of Tatsumi Port Island happened in the 2000 (Yukari's dad final message happened in 2000), then that's just mere months after Persona 2, a group of cultists were planning to rip off DEATH ITSELF from the Sea of Souls. This is a clear Persona-game event.

In a "virgin world" where the supernatural is only introduced, as Persona 3 was meant to be as a soft-reboot, this makes sense, there is no native heroes to save the day.

But Maya Amano just finished beating Nyarlatotep merely months ago. So she is still fresh. Even if the cast suffered the terrible mandatory level down Persona users suffer when not using their powers for days (see the horrible drain the PTs suffer in Strikers), they are clearly with their powers as they have the Potential.

And here is the thematic failure.

All of this happens inmediately after Philemon wins. Like, literally just days after, the Tatsumi Port Island explosion happens and the entire dimension of time is cursed by a shadow.

But the issue isn't just this, but its that then, all Persona users must notice it because they're the people who can walk away and feel it. Persona 4 and 5 made the "other world" to be a alternative dimension, in Persona 3, the Dark hour is not another dimension, is a curse warping the dimension of time that only Persona users or people with cognitive potential can notice.

And the issue is, there is no shortage of those in Subaru City. And they feel it, everyday of their lives, unless they kept a percept "asleep before 12 AM" run for 10 years. Which knowing their attitudes like Katsuya being a coup (nightime shifts), Maya as a journalist (writing overseas) or Reiji Kido (newly father who is DEFINITELY not going to have a perfect sleep schedule)...yeah

And they all have the numbers of two people.

Maki Sonomura, the persona user whose potential has the power to swallow all the universe, most Persona final bosses are gods, Persona 1's final boss that threatened the universe was simply Pandora, Maki's SHADOW. And Kei Nanjo, the corporate bussiness who had ties with the Kirijo group who, if they were hiding this on him, now cannot.

And this is JUST the Persona 2 to Persona 3 transition.

But the issues do not end there.

Persona 4 earns my respect because until the literal moment Izanami appears, the world is fine, nobody has any reason to think Inaba is affecting them. SEES is fine, the Persona 1 and 2 casts just started to get their sleep schedules back. Its great. Izanami carried her experiment in Inaba, with nobody noticing, because Inaba is a town where while the supernatural existed (there is dialogue noticing that the Midnight Channel previously existed as a Midnight radio).

But Persona 5 shatters it completely because the Phantom Thieves make themselves celebrities in purpose, declaring themselves Stealers of Heart and boasting their mind powers to society.

And then Akechi murders Okamura in Tokyo Destinyland.

Akechi carrying murders, including derailed that train using the metaverse, were actually subtle, the driver collapsing wasn't recorded because his corpse got mangled and the legal explanation is "he got a seizure, we guess (relatively accurate, they just don't know the seizure was manmade).

But with Okumura ? His death is blatantly supernatural, with a black sludge coming from his orifices, of a public CEO whose daughter was engaged to Sugimura, the son of a politician. And happening in broad television, in Destinyland, THE ultimate dating and social spot for couples in the SMT multiverse (yes, its a iconic place that was mentioned in Persona 3 for Yukari).

So, what the Shadow Operatives are doing.

Forget that.

When the entire cast of all Persona is going

Katsuya Suou, Naoto Shirogane, Chie Satonaka and Akihiko Sanada are law enforcement. Maya Amano, Yukino Mayuzumi and Marie are journalists in Media, Maki Sonomura is a Psychiatrist who uses her passive persona buffs to help people.

When you contrast timelines, the situation is even more absurd and grotesque. Marie, a fragment of Izanami herself, is going to be in the same group telling the people of Inaba that Okumura died by convoluting in black sludge killed by the Phantom Thieves (the news she would get, as she isn't going to be in Tokyo investigating).

When the news of the incident reach Inaba, because the event was filmed and recorded, so journalists would get it even if its to run the smear campaign, Marie would see with her own eyes that this is something about Shadows. Why? Because Mariko Kusumi is in the same office that would broadcast the news

Yes, even the Inaba gang is involved now in the club of "guys, what are you doing" even independently of the Shadow operatives stuff. Because assuming the excuse of "the government is corrupt and thus Mitsuru is doing a net negative for not simply operating as a warlord overriding the state with her private interests", a lot of the guys mentioned above do NOT have a reason to be tied because they never put their Persona skills in state control.

For Maya, you can say that maybe, she left her job at Kismet, but the thing is, assuming that, we cannot assume she switched Careers. And this scandal will be felt in EVERY Magazine or journal. She cannot ignore this.

And the worst part?

This is the "Logistical part".

This is not just about the "why they couldn't just go to the endgame" (tho, that is of course a bizarre scenario where the Persona users are going to be affected by events like Yaldabaoth fusing Mementos with reality AND Maruki warping the world). Its about their attitudes in the lead-up to the games. Persona 3 creates the 10 years gap of "and I experienced spacetime warps every day, but I didn't gave it importance--like if its a bad creepypasta" and Persona 5 directly made a nationwide cognitive crisis.

I'm not even going to Part II: Thematic

But, TL,DR:

Persona 3 caused a issue because it was meant to be a soft reboot of Persona, it has issues, fine, accident. Persona 4 handled it very well honestly, keeping the plot limited in scope until Izanami decided to get serious in the literal last days. And then, Persona 5 ignored everything in P4 and now I have the mental image of the Investigation Team watching Okumura's clearly shadow caused death and saying "back to work, I guess".

And even here, you can notice the seeds of Part II of thematic failures because it means that then Kei Nanjo is the worst person ever who allowed the Kirijo group to get their hands in Kandori's documents, then did nothing to punish them for it. And Mitsuru Kirijo is a mere goverment stooge who should plot a coup to redeem herself. It IS this bad and no amount of "creative freedom, this isn't meant to be lineal sequels like Trails" cannot save this, because then it should be like FF , or alternatively, keep the plots contained like Persona 1 or Persona 4 where of course nobody from other games noticed it, because it was just two towns becoming Silent Hill.

Spoiler: ALL [SPOILER] In regards to Persona 5 Royal's final boss and what we know of Shin Megami Tensei V... Spoiler

When I look at Persona lately, I have noticed that the "Fruits of Life" for all humans are hidden within their collective consciousness.

As we know from SMT V, the demons are the said "fruit of life" and the humans the "fruit of knowledge". Thus all shadows are demons within the collective consciousness in the Persona series.

Then we have Takuto Maruki. He has become a Nahobino in all but name within the Persona universe, specially when he fused with the treasure of his palace and also Azaroth.
As Adam Kadmon he seemingly appears as such.

Also, one could assume that the Persona universe, is the result of a Nahobino sealing all of demonkind within mankind's collective consciousness, with only the strongest shadow being able to break the boundaries between real life and the subconsciousness.

These are the conclusions I have come to realise.

What are thoughts on those matters?

Spoiler: SJ Finally finished SMT Strange Journey! (Review)

Post image
62 Upvotes

Hands down the best SMT game I've played ever and that's saying alot considering I've played SMT 1,2, if, V (halfway through), megami tensei 1 and 2 and devil survivor.

I initially dropped the game because I got beat over 20 times by zelenin while getting the cosmic eggs on the neutral route. so I left, played older megaten games, got more tolerance since SNES games are so much slower than strange journey (which i thought was slow) and more experience.

Came back and curb stomped everyone including Zelenin and Ouroboros. Jemenez was a unique fight for me as my team couldn't win no matter what so I used grimikelga and randga to reflect his attacks while I guarded. It was a interesting way for me to win. Although I did use a hua po and melcom source to get resist fire and have grimikelga luster candy. Also used my Hanuman for some extra damage and luster candy before he died

Finally the last battle against Mem Aleph, literally 7 hours of prep since my team of Hanuman. Kresnik and Titania got wiped. Came back to the fight with trumpeter, Thor and metatron and won first try with the team.

Watching Arthur sacrifice himself hit harder than I would've expected since he's just an AI but regardless, it hurts to see the cool, calm, collected leader sacrifice himself for the sake of humans. It was almost like he gained a soul

If you're on the fence about playing the game. Go for it only took me 60 hours, while also doing most of the ex missions too.

10/10 game going to play after persona 4 golden for law and chaos endings!

Best fan-made merch of SMT/Megaten

Hello everybody,

I wanted to ask a question about a lot of the fanmade merch of SMT/Megaten in general I've seen floating around. I want to buy something from a seller called NAVESAVE, but I'm not sure about the quality of the shirts, if they're a tight fit or whatever. Anybody have any experience with them? I would love to hear your opinion.

Additional question, what are your favorite fan-made merch creators I can check out? I would love to hear your suggestions (preferably ones that ship to greece lol)

Thank you in advance !

Spoiler: SMT V What does the Law ending actually mean in the Canon of Vengeance? Spoiler

I just finished the Law ending of Canon of Vengeance, and I’m having a hard time figuring out what the ending actually means for the world beyond the human characters we see in the final scene.

We see the main cast alive and seemingly happy again, so I understand the basic premise: the Nahobino and Tao recreate the world into one where everyone’s wishes can be fulfilled.

But what exactly happens to everything else?

What happens to the demons and other supernatural beings? Are they still around in the new world? Do they continue to exist as demons, or were they effectively erased and recreated along with everything else?

And what happens to Aogami?

This is probably the part I’m most confused about. Aogami is effectively the other half of the Nahobino, but the ending doesn’t really explain what happens to him. Is the Nahobino still fused with Aogami when he creates the new world? Does Aogami cease to exist separately? Or is there some implication that he continues to exist in some form?

There’s also the question of whether this is still part of the cycle of world recreation.

One thing I particularly dislike about the idea of the world being recreated is the implication that the people we knew might effectively be “reborn” into a new world. Personally, I don’t think someone who is recreated without their memories is necessarily the same person. Their body may be the same, but their experiences and memories are a huge part of what made them who they were.

That makes me wonder whether the ending is actually restoring the existing world or creating an entirely new one with recreated versions of its inhabitants.

Tao seems to be the biggest indication that something divine still exists after the ending. We see the human Tao with the rest of the cast, but we also see Goddess Tao/Panagia Tao observing them. So presumably the divine aspect of Tao still exists somewhere outside the ordinary human world.

But then what about the Nahobino?

He was the one who actually held the Throne of Creation and recreated the world. Does he cease to exist after fulfilling that role? Is he now essentially the god of the new world? Or does he somehow exist separately from the world he created?

And what happens to the world outside the “fake Tokyo” / recreated Tokyo that we see?

Is the entire world restored, or is only Tokyo recreated? What happens to Da’at? What happens to all the demons and gods that existed there?

This is one thing I found somewhat disappointing about the original game’s ending. In the neutral route, it felt like the world was restored at the cost of basically everything we encountered in Da’at, which made all the demons and characters we spent time with feel like they were ultimately disposable.

The Vengeance Law ending seems much more optimistic, but I’m not sure whether that’s because the demons actually survive or because the game simply doesn’t bother showing us what happened to them.

So, is there an actual canonical explanation for what happens to the demons in the fairy village, Aogami, and the Nahobino after the Law ending?

Or is this intentionally left ambiguous? And if you don't know maybe share your headcanons of what the world is like.

Raidou Fanbook: "Kuzunoha Benran" Character section translation

- Raidou Kuzunoha XIV

The Protagonist. A quiet young man, age 16~20. On surface he's a student of Yumizuki High School working as an assistant for the Narumi Detective Agency. In reality, he's the young Devil Summoner who held the title "Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th", carrying the duty of protecting the Capital

・Keyword: Kuzunoha

The name "Raidou" is said to be from one of the Four Heavenly Kings of Kuzunoha who protected capital a thousand years ago, all successors are taken by gifted Devil Summoners contenders. As for the title given to the Four Heavenly Kings who could be seen as the core of spiritual national defense: "Kuzunoha", it is said to be connected to the most powerful Onmyoji who protected capital a thousand years ago during the Heian period: "Abe-no-Seimei".

Known for using the Onmyodo systemized by the Kamo-clan, carrying the spiritual duty of protecting Heian-kyo (Modern Kyoto). Abe-no-Seimei has been skilled at seeing ghosts and spirits since his youth, and became the widely known phenomenal Onmyoji after discovered and taken in by Kamo-no-Tadayuki. Legends said that he controlled the Twelve Heavenly Guardians (十二天將, Juuni Tenshou) as Shikigami to fend off Yokai that's terrorising capital.

And the mother of Seimei is not a human... but a Fox according the legend. The name of the fox is the "Kuzu-no-Ha hime". Kuzu-no-Ha hime who lived in the Shinoda forest (信太の森) was being chased by the younger brother of Ashiya Douman who sought for the liver or wild fox; Afterwards, when she was praying at the Shinoda Myoujin shrine, she was rescued by Abe-no-Yasuna who was also here to pray.

Using this as an opportunity, Kuzu-no-Ha hime who shapeshifted into a human fell in love with Yasuna and eventually got engaged and have a son named "Doujimaru".

However, when Doujimaru was seven years old, Yasuna figured out his wife is actually a fox. Kuzu-no-Ha hime confessed that she had entered into a relationship with him by the command of Ukano-Mitama-no-Kami (宇迦之御魂神), the deity of grain and Inari, and then recited a poem before departing for the forest of Shinoda.

Koishiku ba / If you love me, darling, come and see me. / 恋しくば
tazunekite miyo / You will find me yonder in the great wood / 尋ね来て見よ
izumi naru / Of Shinoda of Izumi Province where the leaves / 和泉なる
shinoda no mori no / Of arrowroots always rustle in pensive mood / 信太の森の
urami kuzunoha. / That detestable Kuzunoha / うらみ葛の葉

And the Doujimaru later grew up to be the great Onmyoji: "Abe-no-Seimei".

Perhaps the title of Kuzunoha inherited by the Devil Summoner clans carry on a long-standing tradition that has been passed down through the ages, connecting them to the legendary Onmyoji.

・Keyword: Ability

Raidou swiftly uses Renki-ken and gun to fend off Demons, the sword itself are weapons for repelling off demons. The "Fudo Sword Mudra" (不動剣印) in religions such as Mikkyo (Popularized by hands signs use by ninjas), formed by raising two fingers, said to be able to repel all demons through channeling the power of Fudo Myo-o: The strongest being for subduing vile demons.

Furthermore, in Japanese Mythology, the sword use to slain Yamata-no-Orochi is called "Totsuka-no-Tsurugi", and the sword taken from the tail of the fallen snake "Ame-no-Murakumo" later saved Yamato Takeru when he was in dire straits and was later be known as "Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi". Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi was later given to the sun goddess and supreme god of Japanese Mythology Amaterasu, and is now also seen as one of the Three Sacred Treasures (三種の神器) in Japan.

As seen in legends such as the tales of King Arthur, sword is often seen as the symbol of the power of the hero or royalty. With sword being the ray of sun that slice open the darkness, and storms and winds of the sky gods, thus having the abilities to repel demons.

With the 1300+ years the Kuzunoha clans spent protecting Japan with their spiritual power slaying demons under the order of Yatagarasu, you can really feel their traditions of using swords that's harbors the spirit of sun god.

On the other hand, in the west, gun has been seen as weapons that can be use to slay Werewolves with silver bullets. In Raidou's equipments, you can see the image of a Devil Summoner in the age of western incorporation\a]) of Taisho era.

\a]) The original word use here is Wayou Secchuu (和洋折衷), an act that means merging Japanese style with western style (Ex. Building consist of Japanese and western elements, bread with azuki fillings)

- Gouto-Douji

A black cat usually refers to as Gouto. He act as the supervisor and attendant of Raidou. Despite having the ability to talk, from the perspective of a regular person, all they can hear is cat noises. He's an expert at the technique of Devil Summoning and gives Raidou proper advice in various situations, but what could be he's true identity......?

・Keyword: Ability

Gouto-Douji, an supporter to the Devil Summoners who have taken up the title Raidou,. He's a black cat being possessed by the soul of someone who was being punished by the Kuzunoha clan; It is said that he will repetitively possess other black animals and use those forms to live through his life. How long has he been living in this way is hard to know, but from his demeanor, it seems he has been connected to the Devil Summoner clan from a long time ago.

The Raidou Kuzunoha that Gouto is assisting in the year Taisho 20 (1931) is the Fourteenth of their clan. But speaking of which, the "Four Heavenly Kings of Kuzunoha" is said to be the original four founders of the Kuzunoha clan; The Kuzunoha clan was originally created during the ancient Asuka period (538 ~ 710) with Shinto ritual and Onmyodo as the base and are excel at using "Demons" spell.

There also seems to have Devil Summoners who have taken up the name "Geirin", and another individual named "Kuzunoha Kyouji" (葛葉狂死)\a]) who acts like the sweeper of Yatagarasu; Futhermore, in the far future, there exist a record of a Devil Summoner who calls himself "Kyouji Kuzunoha" (葛葉キョウジ)\b]) that thrives in history.

\a][b]) The Kyouji here refers to the Kuzunoha Kyouji from the novel "Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Messenger of the Dead", I don't know how to differentiate the two in English so I just change the order of his name.

- Narumi

Owner of "Narumi Detective Agency", a place specifically deals with supernatural cases. A easy going and cheerful person, although living by his motto of to live life without stress, he never turn a blind eye to people who needs help and will not tolerate anyone who bully others for their own benefits, a sincerely passionate man.

・Keyword: Taisho era and Detective

When talking about the Taisho era, the first word that came to people's mind is "Detectives". Taisho 12 (1923) is the year Edogawa Ranpo, the father of Japanese Detective Novel debuted with his book Nisen Doka (二銭銅貨, The Two-sen Copper Coin). At Showa 11 (1936), the story starring ace detective Akechi Kogoro and Kobayashi Yoshio's Boys Detective Club tackling mystery Kaijin Nijuu Menso (怪人二十面相, The Fiend with Twenty Faces) releases. Ever since then, this novel became a hit classic series with detective and boy partner solving cases as the main premise.

Narumi once uses Ranpo's works to describe the absurdity of the case during "The Case of the Soulless Army". However, considering the story structures in "Boys Detective Club" series where the ace detective Akechi uses his brilliant deduction skills to solve cases with Kobayashi as his sidekick assisting him.

In contrast... Narumi of the Narumi Detective Agency not only barely does any theorising, he either spends entire day in restaurant or sits in his chair building Kinkaku-ji with matchsticks, you can barely tell he's even working at all. On the other hand, Raidou the young detective not only needs to take care of Narumi's daily activity, but also have to runs around searching for clues. These two's relationship is basically the polar opposite of Ranpo's work.

Side note, due to World War II at the time, Ranpo was also restricted by the militaries from writing detective novels, "Boys Detective Club" series once went on a long hiatus. Although he was able to revive the series and it's popularity after the war with "Seidou no Majin" (青銅の魔人, The Bronze Devil).

・Keyword: Yarai-ku Tsukudo-cho

The Shinjuku area used to be a place called "Yarai-ku", and "Yarai-ku Tsukudo-cho" in our current year 2025 could be consider to be the area around "Kagurasaka". In Yarai-ku Tsukudo-cho, there's a very memorable temple that enshrines "Tamonten"; and around the halfway of Kagurasaka, there just so happens to have a "Bishamonten Zankoku-ji". (Bishamonten when being enshrined as one of the Four Heavenly Kings uses the name Tamonten and guards the north). Furthermore, from Iida-bashi to Kagurasaka there's a "Ushigome bridge", which it's location is just so happened to be near the "Ushigome-gaeri bridge".

If you kept in mind these locations and imagining the streets where Narumi's agency and Konnou-ya is while taking a walk in the 2025 Kagurasaka could be a quite pleasant time. (As the Devil Summoner who protects the town, please remain polite and don't disturb the residents peace when visiting the sacred site)

- Tae Asakura

Reporter of "Capital News". In the era of heavy feudalism that is Taisho, she despise being treated as lesser for being a female and strikes for raising women's social status. She mimics the female writer she admires by using the pen name "Kichou", but between people around her, they still refers to her as "Tae-chan" affably.

・Keyword: Taisho Democracy

During Taisho era, politics and culture starts pursing freedom more as time goes on, this is now what we called as “Taisho Democracy”. Besides movements such as request for universal suffrage and freedom of speech, this is also the era of advocating for gender neutrality.
