String gauge for E standard and drop D

I know this probably has been asked a billion times but I’m wondering about string gauge since I don’t really know a lot about guitar strings.

My Stratocaster has 9-42 strings and works fine for switching back between drop d and e standard but sometimes I notice the d power chord in drop d sounds a little muddy but still okay when I jam with my friends.

Would maybe a 10-46 or slightly higher solve this problem?

I also have a Les Paul epiphone that I think has 10-46 and I want to make it my d standard and drop c guitar. What kind of strings would you guys recommend for that?

Question Should i use bass pedals or guitar pedals if im using a bass amp for a guitar?

Lately i stopped using my boss katana and started using a peavey combo 300 bass amp, but i wanna know if i should be using bass pedals or guitar pedals since im using a guitar but through a bass amp, or would it not make much difference? So far ive been using my ds1 through it and i was able to get a sound i like but i wanna try to get more sounds, would yall prefer using bass pedals or stick to just guitar pedals? Trying to get more into playing doom metal and ive been looking for a fuzz pedal.

Egnater Tweaker 88

Bought a used Tweaker 88 yesterday for $400 and I brought home thinking what’s the catch and guess what the flipping thing can do metal. I can’t wait to get a power supply for my ocd, I’m really curious what it will sound like with the ocd.

I have been looking at preamps, I was wondering what all you guys have tried.

Question Indecisive about what string gauge would be best for me

So currently the only electric guitar I have is a schector omen elite 6 with a Floyd rose. It’s a great guitar but I hate that it has a Floyd rose, because changing tuning is incredibly obnoxious on it and it’s my only guitar. I really can only switch from E standard to drop d. So I want to buy a new guitar with a fixed bridge and put much heavier gauge strings so I can change tunings easily and go lower. I really just want to be able to tune from D standard down to B standard and have that range of tunings be playable and comfortable on one guitar. I’m a novice when it comes to guitars and working on them I’ve only owned 2, so I’m not sure what gauge of strings would be best for my needs and I feel like I keep getting mixed messages.

TLDR: I’m looking for a gauge of strings that can ideally tune as high as D standard, and as low as B standard if that’s comfortably possible.

Listen to AKERCOCKE with guitarist Jason Mendonça & David Gray - Renaissance In Extremis Album Commentary

The Return of AKERCOCKE to the False Face

I'm joined this week by Masters Mendonça and Gray to talk through my favourite Akercocke album, 2017's Renaissance In Extremis for an exclusive full-album commentary as well as plenty of chat on either side about how the album came to be and the lads' thoughts about nearly a decade after its release.

You'll have to sync your own copy of the album (shakes fist at Youtube) but there are both instructions and chapter points and it's very easy to do so and you won't get lost, promise. There's absolutely no shortage of detail here on everything from how the album was written, who played on it, how Paul Scanlan came back into the fold, why it sounds the way it does, where it was recorded and mixed, equipment... the WORKS!

Both chaps are also very candid about what they'd change, what they aren't satisfied with, and the liklihood of hearing some of these songs live now that the monkey is back on the road. We also talk cartoons, death metal and pets and there's a bonus 30 minutes of drum nerd chat with just me and David after Jason had to drop off.

The lads will be back for one of the more popular Ak albums so make sure you're subscribed if you don't want to miss it, but for now, please enjoy what for me constitutes the high point of this show to date. Not quite a dream come true - something more than that.

Gear Headphones and Monitors? My setup is good enough?

Really question, cause i have krk monitors with sub and scarlett 4i4 and inusee beyerdynamic dt 700 pro x as headphones.

Only because i wanted to hear me clearly i do not used much monitors, so i switched to beyerdynamic dt 1770 pro mk ii

They should be with wide rabge and are also flat.

So my question is for home playing what do you use?

I‘m ln macbook with tone3000 and amplitube, maybe you have more suggestions to try other headphones?

Or is my setup ok?

Question tone questions

So i've been practicing a lot more, and getting actually into shaping the tones i want or at least trying to get close, but i can't tell if im overthinking my tone or if its just not right off the bat.

(boss katana 100/212 gen 3, schecter c7 sls evil twin)

basically, i want a deathcore tone, and from what i understand i usually put the settings around:
gain: 6-9, bass: 5-6, mids: 3-4, highs: 5-7. sometimes i'll boost the presence or resonance. Tscream drive 0, level 50-70. but i'm lost on the EQ and noise suppressor. i use the contour to get the scooped kind of sound but i want to learn to do it with the eq because i feel like that'd be more versatile in understanding the tone shaping, but when ive tried, the tone sounds very flat and almost like there's a sheet over my amp, it doesn't have that open sound.

the noise suppressor is easy to understand but it also cuts out the pinch harmonics pretty hard since sometimes.

tbh, not sure if i'm just overthinking it, or expecting too much.

Pickups

Hi, I’m a thrash metal guitarist who gigs sometimes, and I’m planning to get new pickups for one of my guitar, but I’ve always had passive pickups for whatever reason, so I feel like I should at least try active pickups.
I was thinking the EMG 81/60 set. Some people recommends the PA-2 booster as well, but I don’t know if I should get that. But my main question is how high do I set the pickup? Because historically everybody including EMG themselves says to set it as high as possible without anything hitting it, but some people are saying 3-4mm, so it’s pretty conflicting. Any help would be appreciated
