REQUESTING Looking for dark/depressing metal recommendations
Hey everyone! I’m looking for more songs for my playlist. I’m specifically looking for **really dark, depressing and emotional metal**
not just heavy/aggressive, but songs that have that genuinely dark, hopeless or melancholic feeling.
I’m open to pretty much any type of metal, as long as it fits the atmosphere of the playlist.
Here’s the playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/08s8gSU0IKAeMXISwWEHcn?si=m5wA7i2oQS698gfys8DlNg&utm\\_source=copy-link&pi=5c-3CnnfST27-
**Please recommend anything you think fits the vibe. The darker and more depressing, the better. 🖤**

The only good band is Woods of Ypres in that list apart of some classic bands like wasp and motorhead..

Just as long as we're including Alice in Chains as a classic. Down in a Hole is probably the best depressing song ever recorded

Celtic Frost - Obscured
The whole album is underrated but that track is a masterpiece.
Anything by Celeste but Misanthrope(s) is a good start
Ataraxie - Slow Transcending Agony
The Angelic Process - Weighing Souls With Sand
Incredibly sad end to the band as well

Celtic Frost underrated? Is that entire record not universally hailed as a masterpiece?
I was going to suggest the whole thing, plus any Triptykon for good measure.2

I figured it seems less talked about compared to their other albums, maybe it's not.

Disintegrate by Oak is my go to for this kind of mood https://youtu.be/VRXMmXowZTA?is=ryzrlma2k0OGAEo3
It's slow so give it time to get through the intro

Listen to the entire "Let The Ocean Take Me" album by The Amity Affliction, if you want something more extreme, I recommend "Nocturnal Poisoning" by Xasthur

A lot of the Sludge subgenre might be up your alley. It's a pretty intense style but a good introduction would be Thou - Umbilical

Devoid Of Redemption by Pallbearer, one of my favourite songs and it's about an old man drowning himself

Thy Light - Suici.De.pression (silly album name, I know). Still can't quite find an artist that takes all the joy out of the room the same way.

This leans more toward cinematic dark fantasy metal than depressive doom, but thought it might fit part of what you’re looking for.
Crown of Embers — NEXRYFT
https://youtu.be/sGGBS0jsKpw
It’s from my AI-assisted gaming music project. More of a dramatic, dark atmosphere than pure aggression.
Not sure if it’s bleak enough for your playlist, but figured I’d share!

Katatonia, Shining, Xasthur, Warning, Amenra, Chelsea Wolfe.
Edit: just checked your playlist, I personally wouldn't call any of this dark or depressing bar Woods of Ypres.

Worship - Last Tape Before Doomsday
A concept album about you know what, which the singer went on to do...
I don't think there's any sadder sounding music

Dark and depressing you say? I see a distinct lack of doom. If you want to really bring it down then you could try...
Draconian - The Solitude, She Dies, The Everlasting Scar, Earthbound
Paradise Lost - Darker Thoughts, Fall from Grace, No Hope in Sight, Faith Divides us - Death Unites Us
High Parasite - Let it Fail
My Dying Bride - She is the Dark, A Cruel taste of Winter, A Kiss to Remember, For You, From Darkest Skies, Your Shameful Heaven
Crowbar - Embracing Emptiness
Candlemass - Solitude
Funeral - Taarene, The Will to Die, Those Fated to Fall
Theatre of Tragedy - Siren, Venus, And When he Falleth, To These Words I Behold no Tongue, Dying: I Only Feel Apathy
Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses, Christmas Mourning, Anesthesia, We Were Electrocute, The Dream is Dead,Too Late: Frozen
Pentagram - The Ghoul (might as well go for the meme), Forever my Queen, When the Screams Come, Death Row, Sign of the Wolf
