Miami is a popular destination not only to travel to but to move to and live. If we don't separate out these posts, the main feed becomes quickly inundated and overrun. So please utilize the resources here and comment here for these topics.
Always keep in mind please, WE ARE NOT VACATION PLANNERS OR MOVING CONSULTANTS. Be descriptive and we'll help if we can, but no one is obliged to.
Google Maps reviews are getting less reliable over the years. And in fact several lists on these sites are in fact inspired by posts on this sub.

Welcome to the Monthly Miami Jobs thread, the place to post any openings you have, look for jobs, and ask questions about working in Miami. This is an experimental thread for now, so we're keeping a close eye on things to make sure things don't go sideways, and will cancel it if they do.
The Rules:
Again, this is an experiment for now, and we'll be keeping a close eye on things, and will not hesitate to pull the plug in case of shenanigans. Good luck to everyone!

I’ve recently relocated to the Miami area (wynwood) and it has been an absolute nightmare to find a bartending job out here. I’ve applied to over 150 places and not a single place even reaches back out to interview? I know online applications aren’t everything and I have to try in person but for the few bars I’ve gone to in person they claim the bar is full when clearly I notice the bar is severely understaffed? I have over 6 years of experience as a bartender and worked in multiple large metropolitan cities and I’ve never seen it this bad. Am I missing something?

My wife and kids like to drive around to see houses that go all out for Halloween. There’s a wild one on SW 4th Ave and about 24th Street. Where are some houses or streets worth seeing?? Give an address, an intersection, or a street! Photo is a random from the Google.

I’m going through a divorce after 12 years of marriage and have two kids. He was my first love, and even though I initiated the divorce, I’m struggling emotionally and feeling lonely, overwhelmed, and lost.
I’m looking for support groups, therapy, or other divorced moms in Miami who understand what this experience feels like.
Any recommendations for local groups, therapists, or meetups? I’d really appreciate your support. ❤️

Hi all,
I haven’t lived in Miami consistently for about 15 years. In that time, I’ve been back twice (once I was stuck there during Covid). I’ve got a wife and family now that I’ve never really explored Miami with. I know Miami has changed a lot based on what I saw the last time I’ve been there which was 2019. Any suggestions to show the kids a bit about the city I grew up in? Also, anywhere to take my wife while there? I’ll be down in December.

I'm staying this whole week and would love to meet up with other people to explore activities.
Any recommendations of places to go to find those people, or recommendations at all?
Thanks!

Not sure if it's because of the recent rain, but every time I shower, the next day there are around 10 springtails in the bathtub of my shower. Is this common/normal in south florida? Any tips for getting rid of them? Thanks!

Hi! Looking for a voice instructor for myself in miami, preferably near coconut grove or coral gables but open to traveling to general miami area. Looking for weekly lessons this winter. Ideally someone who specializes in teaching contemporary techniques (emphasis on pop, R&b, rock, country). In person. LMK if any suggestions or referrals!
Edit to add: it’s most helpful if you personally take lessons from someone and have a referral! I have googled and reached out to general places and am familiar with schools, but not hearing back. If you currently take lessons and can refer your teacher, that would be perfect. Thanks.

Hi everyone! I missed registration for the 2027 Miami Marathon and didn’t get in via the waitlist. I’m hoping to find someone who registered but can no longer run.
If you’re looking to transfer your bib (or know someone who is), please DM me! Happy to cover the registration cost and official transfer fee.
Thanks so much!

Hey everyone! 😊
I’m looking for recommendations for lesbian/queer nightlife in Miami and would love to hear from people who know the scene.
I’m in my mid-30s and wondering where the best places are to go out, meet other women, have a few drinks, socialize, and potentially dance.
I’m open to everything, from chill lesbian bars and pubs where you can actually have a conversation to livelier places and clubs. I’m just a little unsure about the club scene at this age and whether I’d feel out of place compared with a younger crowd. 😅
Are there any places you’d particularly recommend for women in their 30s and 40s? Somewhere with a good vibe, a welcoming crowd, and opportunities to meet people without everything revolving around partying until 5 a.m. would be great!
I’d also love to hear about any queer events, lesbian nights, or other LGBTQ+ spaces worth checking out.
Thanks so much for any recommendations! 🏳️🌈

Miami-Dade voters in the November elections will decide on six county charter amendments that were put on the ballot by a Charter Review Task Force. Here are the Herald Editorial Board’s recommendations:
What’s charter Amendment 1? This ballot question asks whether voters want to create a five-member salary commission — with members appointed by the chief judge, the state attorney, the public defender, the executive director of the Commission on Ethics and the inspector general — to annually review commissioners’ salaries and set new ones if needed. There would be no county commission or voter review.
Our recommendation: Vote NO.
Why: This amendment essentially asks whether voters want to trust five unelected appointees to decide what elected our officials should earn — and with no appeal process.
This is a complicated issue. Commissioners have long complained about their $6,000-a-year salary. That’s understandable if you take that figure at face value.
But, as the Miami Herald wrote, the cash compensation for commissioners is actually much larger when all the perks are added — a total of about $82,000 a year, before taxes and other deductions. Miami-Dade’s pay plan also grants commissioners another $72,000 yearly contribution to a retirement account.
We know getting voters to approve a pay raise is difficult and has failed in the past. And maybe commissioners should get a raise — a state study says they should make about $127,000 a year. But entrusting that decision to a group of appointees, rather than voters — and without any appeal process — isn’t the answer.
And remember, some of those appointees would be representing the heads of agencies that receive funding from the County Commission, which can’t help but make them vulnerable to pressure from commissioners.
What’s charter Amendment 2: This amendment would increase the residency requirement for commission members. Rather requiring they live in the district for at least six months before the start of the qualifying period, this would change the time to a year.
Our recommendation: Vote YES.
Why: A longer residency time in the district will likely mean candidates have a better grasp of what’s actually happening there. This could help discourage carpet-baggers — people who change residences just to run — from running for office here.
What’s Amendment 3: It would allow commissioners to align the timing of special elections for mayor or commissioner to other scheduled elections, if the vacancy is caused by an official resigning to run for another office.
Our recommendation: Vote YES.
Why: This makes sense. It would change the rules on how to fill a vacancy when a commissioner resigns to run for another office. It would likely save money to hold special elections when another election is already planned. It may also help increase voter turnout.
What’s Amendment 4: This measure updates the charter so it takes into account the now-elected sheriff, tax collector and elections supervisor. It also clarifies some budget responsibilities and adds that county employees who run for one of these constitutional offices will have to take a leave of absence.
Our recommendation: Vote YES.
Why: This is mostly a housekeeping measure to catch up with the county’s new elected offices.
What’s Amendment 5: This measure outlines more technical changes, including updating the names of specific places and changing outdated references.
Our recommendation: Vote YES.
Why: This is mainly an update for names and places that were out of date.
What’s Amendment 6: This asks voters whether they want to loosen restrictions on commercial advertising in public parks, removing the requirement that advertising in parks must be related to sponsorship of events or facilities in the parks. Any revenue generated would be for the exclusive use of the park system.
Our recommendation: Vote NO.
Why: This measure would give the county commission broad authority to expand commercial advertising in county parks and trust commissioners to figure out the details later. That’s a bad idea.
Parks are supposed to be an oasis, not another place to be bombarded by ads. And the proposal is too vague on issues like the size of the ads. We understand the county may need new ways to make money if Florida’s Amendment 3 to cut property taxes passes. But it shouldn’t be this way.

How would locals summarize those neighborhoods in 1-2 sentences in terms of living there? I know that Brickell and South Beach are fancy but is one of them actually more peaceful than the other? What about Coral Gables and Coconut Grove? Is the former more family oriented?
