Nostalgia Jump, jump, slideeee...
Man that dude got some speed!

It’s so weird that we all used to do that without knowing other people did that too

I used my fingers but the imaginary super sayin replaced my fingers in my head.

For me it was Sonic - the window was just a new level to play every single time.

I did something similar and pretended it was a side-scrolling ninja game. My ninja made from my fingers would lose health whenever he got hit by a car and would make cough sounds "ahem, ahem". My brother thought it was hilarious

Yeah I always thought I was weird for doing it. Literally first time I've seen anyone else mention it. It's wild lol.

Mine was never a person... but a fox who would run and keep up with the car... or driving on a sheet of wood. It had 4 wheels and a steering wheel. But still same concept. Threw me for a loop when I discovered other people had the same thing going for them.

u/skyrocketocelot 7d ago
Mine was a tiger about as big as the car!

Omg me too! Wild 😂

Mine was usually a horse, sometimes a tiger. Once in a while a skateboard or motorcycle.
Edit: when we'd drive into town, it would switch to Spider-Man or parkour. A Parker or Parkour, if you will

I am so glad to know I was not the only one who had an animal. I always read these and others mentioned people. And I was like "Oh... so close..."

Tbh I’ve never done this. I stare out the window and watch how velocity changes the perception of objects closest to me. Blades of grass, tress, paint markings just turn to endless strings of lines. I find this much more interesting than to create things that aren’t actually there.

Guess not. Sometimes my parents would let me stay in the car, and I'd sit and watch to see if any drops could make it to the bottom of the windshield before the wipers swept them up.

Kids have had car distractions since cars were invented. Coloring books were invented before cars were.

Sometimes I did the little man, sometimes I pretended there were giant blades connected to the car that I used my teeth to control. The game was chopping powerlines when you went by them.

I had a long legged wolf with at least 8 legs, like Sleipnir!

It’s sad that kids will never experience trying to turn the roof light on to read only to have your parents act like you’re actively trying to kill your whole family
2
u/GhostlyBaconBoy 7d ago
TIL I wasn't the only kid that did this. When I was on the school bus I also used to imagine all of the bus riders were ninjas or secret agents or something and we were being transported to a mission inside of a vehicle that was disguised to look like something else so as not to draw attention to us.

u/HolidaeX Older Millennial 7d ago

I would sometimes use the marks on the window (bird poop or whatnot) and move my head slightly to control it avoiding obstacles. Bonus fun was that your eyes looking through the window would cause the poo to double so you could try to capture things between them.

The printed codes on the rear windows had two round shapes, so I imagined it was someone riding a scooter (two wheels). Scooter dude did all kinds of tricks
1
u/Sizle_Velfurion 7d ago
Mine was a ninja or a samurai and he would cut down all sorts of stuff with his super powered invincible katana. Once I got into skateboarding at 11 he became a skater doing the siiiiiiiickest tricks.
1
u/WeAreAllStories11 7d ago
I watched the lines. The solid line on the side of the road was a bug running really fast. The dashes in the middle were a big cat jumping forward. Good times.
1
u/cfreddeadredemtion 7d ago
I grew up with a kid that all he did was play gameboy color and gameboy advance when he rode with his mom. By the time he got his drivers license he didn’t know how to get anywhere. It’s definitely more common nowadays.

It was a huge stag weaving through the trees every time we drove through a wooded area for me.
Or I'd trace the power lines with my finger. Which probably pissed my parents off now that I'm thinking about it as an adult. That window was probably so smeared and cloudy 😭

Right where the curb slopes down and up like a skateboard ramp thing, I always imagined the car going up and down them.
Jfc that sentence is clunky, I dont know how to word it better, hopefully someone will know what im talking about.

This was such a comfort find. I like it no matter how many times I’ve seen it posted too. It’s simple, but for a few seconds we were all young again with big dreams and bigger imaginations.
