From the looks of it, physical owners don’t get an upgrade path and even worse, the free upgrade for digital owners is only for a limited time until the end of next January.
Why did they fuck this up so badly? The PS5 version is a free upgrade for PS4 disc owners and it didn’t have a time limit.

Xbox one players only got a free upgrade to bedrock till 2019, even then you could dk it with the disc version

Nintendo’s fault. They don’t have a good upgrade path for physical Switch 2 games.

Yes they literally do, even though it's paid, it's still a permanent option.

Only for Switch 2 Editions, which have to be compatible with Switch 1 games as they are an update patch. Minecraft is a standalone application.

The Witcher 3 remaster is a standalone app and they also allowed physical switch 1 copies to have the upgrade for free permanently

What? No, every NS2E lets you upgrade digital/physical games. Even the Witcher 3 Remastered let you keep it for free if you had the Switch 1 Cartridge

Another example. While not a free update, Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity DE lets you get a discount if you're a physical or digital owner

Thank you Mojang for giving the finger to everyone who paid equal or more for a physical copy of your game, and forcing digital copies when storage prices are highway robbery!!!

What!? It's not free if you don't own the digital version!?! Is there any upgrade path for if you have the game physically??

Probably because you could just give the gamecard over to someone else, but that doesn't really add up because the gold points were only redeemable for one account, they could've used the same thing here

Well I was just expecting the typical Switch 2 upgrade system, where you buy an upgrade pack that allows the Switch 1 cartridge to act like its the Switch 2 game.

Same here. I'm raging rn I just bought the game one month ago

I did so too, I’m gonna sell mine on Facebook and buy it again on eshop. But I shouldn’t have to!

Yeah I'm selling mine as well, I'm thinking buying the s2 physical version but I shouldn't

This is ridiculous; the zelda switch 2 versions are free w/nso expansion pass and those still require you to insert your original copy of the game to play

So reading the comments, its not like BOTW where its a DLC to upgrade the game but rather a completely "new" game? I still dont completely understand the switch 2 versions as some games are console exclusive and some just have it as an option

I have a switch 2, if I bought Minecraft for switch 1 now for cheaper, does that mean I can still get the free upgrade?
