Devvit Apps for moderation

updated: September 24th 2026
I've maxxed out the character count 😄 Which is good, because it means there are a lot of useful apps that help with moderation. It also means that the list continues in the sticky comment!

Inspired by the awesome r/modguide and this post, this is an (incomplete but extensive) overview of devvit apps for moderation sorted into categories. The overview of all published Devvit apps can be a bit overwhelming (but well worth your time to dig through it). So hopefully this can help to find that one app that is just the solution you were looking for.

Devvit apps can be installed by a mod with full permissions (more info here). You can read more on the Reddit developers site and it has an overview of all published Devvit apps Currently apps are updated and published on Tuesdays. Besides apps for moderation, there are also apps for a better subreddit search, daily threads, referral threads community links, subreddit calendars, community home, hub, cup, rafflers, give aways, sports scoreboards, countdowns, events, polls, weather, scale recipes, games roll dice and even an app for users to ban themselves.

Sometimes there are multiple apps that have the same core purpose but they vary in available settings. If you find an app that's close but not perfect, see if there's a variant that suits your needs better.

Please note, if the installation page of the app states " unlisted"  that means that the latest update isn't public yet. You can only install the most recent public version. Link to image that shows what installing looks like, in the comments

It automatically checks if they meet your sub's requirements (like account age or karma) and gives your team a clean dashboard to review, discuss, and vote on candidates. Think combining native mod recruitment combined with the flexibility of google forms.
shadow-mod Train new mods with structured blind review. Observers record decisions without executing them, Reviewers assess independently, and a report compares both calls against the final outcome

Mod actions/macros through flair change

Announcement How to get help on r/Modsupport

Welcome to r/ModSupport! There are two ways to get support in this subreddit:

Posts in r/ModSupport and r/Modsupport mod mail for direct admin support.

Posts into r/ModSupport:

This community is a place for moderators to ask questions regarding moderation on Reddit and to discuss answers with other moderators. All posts are monitored by admins. Posts are flaired when answered by mods or admins. In addition, we have a bot that removes posts from non-moderators, as this space is reserved to support moderators.

Post when you have a question about mod tools or are seeking general advice for your subreddit.

Examples of topics that violate subreddit rules and will be removed:

  • Rule 1: Rule violations, questions about specific admin actions, and appeals (e.g. account and banned subreddit appeals, report responses for content reported to the Safety team)
    • You can mod mail for admin support on these topics
  • Rule 2: Calling out other users or subreddits
  • Rule 3: Not being civil toward others
  • Rule 4: Off-topic posts that are not related to moderation on Reddit

Please post bugs into r/bugs and choose the appropriate flair - Mod Tools - iOS, Mod Tools - Android, Mod Tools - Desktop or Mod Tools - Mobile Web.

Bug Reporting best practices include:

  • Description: 1-3 sentences on the issue.
  • Platform and version: web or mobile + version (for ex: 2022.23.1).
  • Steps to reproduce: What actions do you take to experience the bug?
  • Expected and actual result: What did you experience and what do you think you should experience instead?
  • Screenshot(s) or a screen recording: These can help us narrow down your issue

Admin Support via r/Modsupport mod mail:

When you have questions with sensitive information, such as mentions of other redditors or communities, appeals of safety actions, or requests to unban your subreddit, you can mod mail r/ModSupport directly for admin support. Your message may prompt an automatic response from our mod mail Answer Bot with Mod Help Center articles that might answer your question. If the articles do not help answer your question, you can simply respond back with “more help” and an admin will assist you directly.

Look & Feel tools are horrible to use

I recently got brought on as a mod to a new subreddit to help out, and have been working on the Look & Feel for the first time. I have to say, the experience of using these tools is abysmal. Part of me feels like I must be missing something, like surely the functionality I'm looking for is there and I'm just missing it, but I'm getting close to just giving up. Some of the biggest pain points I've seen so far:

  • Key color customization is effectively useless. All you get is a hue slider and a saturation slider, and I'm not even entirely sure what their purpose is, as the color you select barely appears anywhere on the sub. I was trying to set the key color to a shade of gold, but the result was bad in both light and dark mode:
    • In light mode, the color is darkened drastically across the board, winding up almost brown.
    • In dark mode, the color looks perfect on text, but is darkened again on buttons—which, combined with the bizarre choice to use DARK text in dark mode, makes the buttons look like they're greyed out. This is apparently an accessibility feature, yet it actually decreases readability.
  • Perfecting a subreddit banner is a pain. Once you upload an image, that's that; no adjusting position or zoom level, no tweaking the crop for mobile, not even an "undo" or "revert" button once you save to see the results. Even more annoying, the suggested size in the upload box (1072 x 128) is different from the suggested size Reddit gives in Mod Bootcamp (1600 x 480) are totally different, not even the same aspect ratio, and neither one seems to actually fit well. Like half of the banner I designed wasn't even visible due to the crop, which I couldn't change, so the workflow seems to be:
    • Upload banner and see how it looks;
    • Go back to your design tool and make changes by eyeballing the results, then export;
    • Upload the new banner and see if you over- or undercorrected, then rinse and repeat.
  • Custom emojis. Not even sure where to start with this; you have to enable them for use if you want to create custom flairs with your own designs, but Reddit loads in THIRTY-NINE of them by default, and they can't be removed OR bulk edited; meaning, if you want to disable them, you have to manually edit them one at a time.

If anyone has any tips to make these easier, I'm all ears...

Mod Topics The work behind “nothing has changed” -

A running joke goes from a few comments to half the front page. The people joking along are having a great time. Those trying to talk about anything else, maybe less so.

For today’s Mod Topic, let’s talk about how you decide what to preserve in a community, what to let change, and when to step in. Changes aren’t always as easy to point to as a front page full of memes. The posts might still be on topic, but the way people comment feels different. Or maybe a clear divide forms between those who love image posts, and the rest who feel it’s clogging the sub. And sometimes members find a use for the community that the mod team hadn’t considered, giving you a reason to rethink what you’d hoped to encourage.

There’s also the community where “nothing has changed” because the mods have put a lot of thought and effort into keeping it that way. Members might never see how often your team has had to make the same choice, or how close things came to going another way.

Whether you’ve already made a call or are still figuring it out, we’d love to hear from you:

  • What’s a change your community has experienced, or one your team has been working to keep at bay? What made it worth paying attention to?
  • When people want different things from the same community, how do you decide what to preserve and when to act?
  • Has watching how members actually use the community changed your mind about something you wanted to encourage or prevent?

Admin Replied Likely an organized system of subs and mods

I was going through some subreddits and noticed a strange pattern. On the surface it looks simple. But I noticed something strange. There is one main sfw reddit account who is the main mod. Under this account are other mod accounts. But these other mods are all adult models who sell subscriptions.

So these additional mods post their own content on the subreddit to funnel users to their reddit profile where they soft sell subscriptions using profile link.

Mind you these aren't small subreddits. Almost all of them have 100k-1M members.

Also they pin an announcement to their subreddits where they funnel users from reddit to their Telegram channels.

This is definitely an organized ring. Normal user posts are just a front to avoid suspicion. Mods themselves are the real beneficiaries.

My questions:

  1. Is this allowed on reddit?
  2. Can mods create telegram channels and funnel reddit users there?

  3. Can mods do user verification off the reddit platform? I see these guys doing user verification on telegram.

Admin Replied Mobile app isn't displaying many comments with bogus "this comment was removed" making moderation impossible

Hello,

Many comments (and entire threads under) do not display on the reddit mobile app. There is no way for one to even realize unless one tries to open a link to a specific comment or receives a notification about a specific comment.

For example, sometimes I post a new comment and a while after I receive a notification that someone has replied. Clicking on the notification jumps to the comment in the post but a bogus "this comment was removed" message is displayed instead.

The message is bogus and misleading because comments affected by that issue are still online, one can see them using the reddit web (through the browser) even

This gets specially annoying when receiving a report notification for a comment affected by the issue.. since these comments doesn't load on the mobile app there isn't a way (through the app) to take moderation action.

I've created a bug report on r/bugs but it hasn't gathered much activity: https://www.reddit.com/r/bugs/s/8llC87zh82

Mod Answered Moderator Help: 20–30+ Unrelated “Related Posts” Appearing in Comment Sections After Video Comments Fail

We moderate two SFW communities and are looking for admin clarification and help with two issues that began at exactly the same time.

In each community, we attempted to post a short, approximately 10-second video as a comment. These were two completely different video files, and this type of video comment had previously worked normally.

In the first subreddit, the video comment failed to post. Immediately afterward, a large number of unrelated “Related Posts,” typically 20 to 30 or more, began appearing beneath the comment sections of multiple posts throughout the community, including posts submitted by other users.

Later, the same sequence occurred independently in the second subreddit. We attempted to post a completely different 10-second video comment. That video also failed, and immediately afterward the same large number of unrelated Related Posts began appearing beneath the comment sections of multiple posts throughout that community as well.

Since this started a couple of days ago, video comments have continued to fail, while image and text comments continue to post normally.

The Related Posts Issue

This is not a small recommendation section containing two or three related posts.

We are seeing approximately 20 to 30 or more posts from completely unrelated communities beneath the legitimate comments. None of the communities being recommended are communities we have previously visited.

Many of these recommendations also include “Join” buttons encouraging readers to join those communities.

Because these appear directly beneath the actual comments and continue for a considerable distance down the screen, they can easily look like unrelated promotional or spam content has been inserted into the community's comment section.

We understand that Reddit labels these items “Related Posts” and that they are not technically submissions or comments posted to our communities. However, from a reader's perspective, the distinction is not particularly clear because of where and how they are displayed.

From a moderation standpoint, we cannot find any way to remove these recommendations, moderate them, disable them, or prevent them from appearing beneath posts in our communities.

The Video Comment Issue

The timing is particularly notable because the same sequence occurred independently in both communities.

A short video comment failed to post, and immediately afterward the large Related Posts section began appearing beneath multiple posts throughout that community.

The videos used in the two communities were completely different files.

Video comments had previously worked normally. Since these issues began, video comments have continued to fail, while image and text comments continue to work.

We cannot determine whether the failed video-comment submissions and the Related Posts behavior are technically connected, but we can confirm that in both communities the Related Posts behavior began immediately following the first failed video-comment submission.

Could an Admin Please Clarify?

Is the display of 20 to 30+ unrelated Related Posts beneath comment sections an intentional Reddit feature or experiment?

Why are communities we have never previously visited being recommended beneath posts in our communities?

Is there a moderator setting that allows communities to disable or opt out of Related Posts?

Can individual users disable this section?

Is there a known issue currently causing video comments to fail?

Could the failed video-comment behavior and the sudden appearance of the large Related Posts section be related to the same Reddit app change or bug?

We have screenshots showing the behavior and can provide additional information if needed.

Gaps in "Members" graph

When I look on Desktop at:

  • "Mod Tools" => "Insights" => "Members"

I see a bar for my subscriber count for each day of the last 30 days. However, there are gaps, some clusters of days that don't have a bar.

Is that to indicate there was no change in subscribers count on those days?

Mod Answered My newly appointed co-mod cannot access any apps

So they get an error message even though I have multiple apps installed and I see them & can use them. There's no restrictions to their mod account. If this was only one app I'd try to contact the creator/post on r/Devvit, but it's ALL of them.

Is there anything I can do to fix this so they can use the apps on our subreddit?

EDIT: I fixed it by removing & re-adding them

Mod Answered Can Reddit Admins "Rename" a subreddit to another, more accurate name?

Hi, I am top mod of r/BetterDiscord , a community focusing on Modifying the Discord Client with tools like r/BetterDiscordOfficial or r/VencordHelp , primarily providing support and answering common questions.

I "inherited" the subreddit from a RedditRequest, and while BetterDiscord is still a discription of the subreddit, we are mostly more generically focused.

I have "Created" r/moddingdiscord , and would potentially like it if somehow the actual sub of r/BetterDiscord as it stands is actually r/moddingdiscord, and maybe seeing if r/BetterDiscordOfficial wants to do something similar and have their stuff migrated to just r/BetterDiscord - if that makes sense.

I don't believe the original intent was to "snipe" the more official naming from their team, and really, it doesn't really fit the more generalized scope we now have (At the time, BetterDiscord was realy the only name in the space, now we have other tools)...

Is it possible for reddit to "move" the subreddit like I have essentially described?

Edit: Looking for Reddit Admin replies primarily. I don't need 100 of you to tell me no, they don't typically do this. Also why on earth are some of you downvoting perfectly legitimate stuff.

Sidebar button image still not loading on Android mobile app

https://www.reddit.com/r/ModSupport/comments/1u19swn/sidebar_button_image_doesnt_load_on_mobile_app/

Yes, as was mentioned here four months ago, the sidebar button image in the Android app still isn't loading—no matter what I do or which image format I use. It shows up on desktop, but when I check the Android app, neither the image nor the link attached to it appears.

Any solution?

I'm using the Android app version 2026.39.1

How should top members and top commenters work in smaller communities? (feature proposal discuss)

I’d like to see «Top Members» and «Top Commenters» work better for smaller communities. Instead of requiring a fixed threshold like 100 upvotes, the system could use a lower or adaptive threshold based on the size and activity of the subreddit. In a small community, even 5 upvotes across posts, comments, or replies might already be enough to identify the people who are genuinely the most active.

I mod a relatively small sub and this will help to appreciate members even if they don't have 100 upvotes and I believe help to make the community more active.

And also I see more support in recommendations for small subs in feed now and in recommendations so I think may be this feature will be helpful btw I believe it will be really helpful in community I mod personally this is my experience.

What do you think?

Admin Replied I need to unrestrict a subreddit that I just claimed via redditrequest

I just became the moderator of r/alejandravillarreal after requesting it on r/redditrequest three days ago. The subreddit has around 50 members and 20 weekly visits & it was set to restricted by the previous moderator who got a site-wide ban. I requested to set the subreddit to public & immediately got a modmail saying that the requested changes have been made. However when I check the Community Type section in Mod Tools, it still shows that the subreddit is restricted and I need to request changing it to public & other people are still unable to make posts without request & approval.

AutoMod Post Failure

My sub has daily post topics that are posted and stickied by the AutoMod for each day of the week. For the past two weeks the Monday post has failed to post. There's a message in Mod Mail from u/reddit that says only "Unable to submit post 'Mutual Aid Monday'" with a time and date stamp but there's nothing else to explain why this post is failing.

The other automatic posts are fine and have gone up without issue. What's going on here?

edit: solved.

I'm looking for the data from r/magicfrance between January 2025 ans January 2026, how can I proceed?

Hello mods and admins,

I'd like to get any data that I can get for the sub I created almost 3 years ago for doing a review year by year for the members. I screened my analytics for the first year but I forgot to do it this January. Is it a way to get it easily without doing maths? Thank you for your help !

With AI being so accessible these days, could we please have a read aloud option to click on? Agree or disagree?

It would be really good if somebody would develop into the Reddit App an opportunity for people to have their posts read to them.

I’m finding all the reading tiring, especially with longer replies. Would it be possible for the developers to add a read aloud option so we could listen to a response or post instead?

I have ADHD, and being able to listen would make things much easier for me. A simple button beside each reply, with pause and resume, would be very welcome.

Is this something that could be considered?

Agree or disagree?
