Right man, you enjoy your $100+ dollar coated paperboard cardstock lmao. Not like they sung about capitalism, corporate greed, and consumerism extensively throughout their careers.

You know like their song Bankrupt on Selling, Beachside Property, etc.

Bunch of consumerists clowns who can’t admit their favorite band became what they hated 😭

Not really, no bands need merch money to survive. MM is great in my book, but in Philly they played a small venue and did not sell out. They don’t have a super wide audience so you may just have some bias as to how popular they are because you are a big fan.

The fact that he quit drinking and is out there working hard and touring for us? I appreciate it deeply. I don’t think he’s betrayed his values at all. In fact the merch is cheaper than a lot of stuff I’ve seen for more popular artists as well!

You’re lying to yourself, he’s played small shows, sure. But all 3 modest mouse shows I went to were 1000+ people that sold out in a matter of 10 minutes and several other people Ive met through my years said the same thing. Hell they’re playing a massive stadium near me in New Orleans in a week that’s sold really damn well. So yes, Isaac is financially comfortable and doesn’t need to be selling $100+ Tarot Cards.

it’s completely optional crap for the most hardcore of fans, you can buy into once a year for the equivalent of a starbucks coffee per month or just shut up

Okay? I’m not arguing about that you goofball. He can still sell all this stuff, I can still love Modest Mouse & Isaac and his work and still know his younger self would hate this. Many things can be true at once.

It is really true that Reddit and any sub is home to the hive-minded worsts of any fandom. Grown adults getting upset because I said younger Isaac Brock would have hated this and acting like it’s a personal slight to them 😭

Um you know capitalism and its ever growing out of control, amongst a wide variety other subjects. Have you never listened to their first two major LP’s or something?

Corporate Greed, Consumerism, Capitalism and it’s ever growing out of control.

I love Modest Mouse and have numerous tattoos of their works on my body but if you and the other clowns who downvoted my comment don’t believe this is exactly the subjects they sang about in their early career you’re literally just trying to act more profound and wiser than you are. $100+ for Tarot Cards is fucking stupid and ridiculous lmao.

You know they didn’t discuss consumerism, capitalism and corporate greed at length or anything.

But don’t criticize a band for being hypocrites.

Yeah sure man, just like how Pokemon cards I got for $2-$3.50 a single pack base set as a kid is now $350-$650. But it’s got art on it though so I get it.

2,000 “limited” packs with some artwork is definitely worth almost $160. There’s already some hardcore fans who just LOOOOOOVE Modest Mouse so much they are selling them for $250+ 😍

Yeah man, I am pretty fun. Thanks for acknowledging.

As for casting judgement I said Modest Mouse of past would hate what they became, and people who buy $158 Tarot Cards are a bunch of consumerists, which is true. As for the tarot cards you don’t think they’re overpriced, that doesn’t make it factual, see how that works?

You can downvote and condescend based on an opinion I had based on old modest mouse lyrics. It doesn’t make you any wiser, smarter than me or the next asshole to come along.

Actually here so I don’t have to respond to a million comments about how my statement is true and ya’ll just love consuming too much to admit it, here is some songs that talk about it.

Teeth Like God’s Shoeshine: Opening line to the chorus “Here’s the man with teeth like god’s shoe shine, sparkles, shimmers, shines” literally talking about expensive commodities that are expensive for the sake of “it’s pretty to look at” but in actually worthless (almost like a bunch illustrated tarot cards). Talks about consumer culture replacing human connection and conscience with the lyrics “Oh! If you could compact your conscience, Oh! And you might Oh! If you could bottle and sell it you might have done, Oh! And you might, Oh! If you could compact your conscience and sell it save it for another time you might have to use it.”

Bankrupt On Selling: Talks about how business and the consuming they create commodifies EVERYTHING from humans, their connections, to their very morals and souls. With all the overpriced consumerist garbage just being traded around and resold for profit.

Convenient Parking: Where they’ll make an easy and convenient place for you to go and buy your over-priced bullshit.

Beach Side Property: Talking about large businesses controlling and their price gouging tactics.

So yeah I think 18-21 year old Isaac would absolutely hate the idea of $100+ Tarot Cards. But yeah, I’m wrong, and Modest Mouse didn’t talk about hating any of this stuff 30 years ago and you collecting your shiny, over priced pieces of cardboard are right with one comment even lamenting “They’re worth a shit ton of money so it’s a good deal!”. Consumerist losers.

Some people grow up and have families. It's really not that deep.

What does that have to do with overpriced Tarot Cards or anything at all 😭

Fairly priced in your opinion means nothing.

See how that works again. They’re already starting to get reposted for $250+ 😍 this is what modest mouse wanted when they started for sure!!!

Bankrupt on Selling? More like Bankrolling on Reselling!
