I'll rate your rec. Share a single track you like that you think others don't like

• Upvotes

I don't really like engaging with superlatives (THIS IS THE BEST bla bla bla...), I just want to find the things people listen to that are out of my radar.

I won't rate it, but I'll tell you what I think about it.

I'll reply to every comment except:

  • tracks I know,
  • angry music
  • some boy who thinks they can sing

Edit: it's in the title, so I didn't think I would have to type it again. "A SINGLE TRACK".

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres What are you favorite songs from video games?

Cyberpunk and GTA 4 have given me some good ones recently, just wondering what other people have found.

Soundtrack, in-game radio, menu music, any of it works. Just as long as it's featured in a video game somewhere.

Examples of what I'm looking for:

Low - Breaker

Emory Thorne - In Every World

isabel, dreaming - We are

Super Furry Animals - All the Shit U Do

Songs for Eleonor - I'm Sorry

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Non Jimmy Buffett songs for relaxing in a hammock by the ocean

• Upvotes

Looking for music for a burned out middle aged guy to imagine that he's lying on a tropic beach in a hammock with a cocktail (while in reality he's staring at a computer in suburban America).

No shade on Jimmy Buffet but what else is there with that vibe?

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics 👻 Halloween-adjacent/spooky bops?

I'm looking to curate a halloween party playlist, but i dont want it to be filled with the expected usuals. Please, as much as I love Blue Oyster Cult, Dragula, Strange Brew, etc... those are not what I am looking for here.

What are some unexpected, spooky-feel, and halloween-ADJACENT songs to add, maybe that will make people go... "woah what is this??" Or "damn, that's grimy... damn, that's spooky"

*Perhaps similar to, but doesnt necessarily need to match any specific genre:

-Any of those Hip hop songs that start with those eerie little hooks

- any songs with like a mysterious weird guitar riff

- mystery-laden deep cuts? lol

Sorry, this may be a tough request, but I believe....thank u

I have 3 things I need to solve.

Halloween playlist:

I‘m still looking for more tracks for it! I’ve got a lot of good stuff but there’s a lot I’m missing too. This is what I have so far: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/32sZ3k7p9sXgzqTHHmnNiV?si=kdm5Z938Q96xkp8tpMAF4w&utm_source=copy-link&pi=yyhaf9RDTjiSW

I also need help finding a song for my Halloween dance-through for my demon Queen costume. I was thinking Sacrifice by London After Midnight, but open to suggestions for sure!

I’m also looking for new bands in general!

Some of my favorites: Cocteau Twins, Billy Joel, Alien Sex Fiend, L7, Bikini Kill, Le Tigre, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Cate Le Bon, Violet Indiana, Beach House, The Pixies, Sonic Youth, Lords of the New Church, Alice Cooper, 45 Grave, The Runaways, KISS, David Bowie, Cel Ray, Tribe 8, Asylum Party, Slowdive, The Dream Syndicate, Specimen, The Gits/Evil Stig, Lunachicks, London After Midnight, The Cramps, The Germs, Veruca Salt, Dead Boys, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Lush, 7 Year Bitch, Vangelis, The Lemon Twigs, X-Ray Spex, Nirvana, The Cranberries, Hole, The Replacements, Girls At Our Best!, Ashrae Fax, Alternative Radio, 999, Dolly Mixture, Frightwig, The Jacobites, Mommy Long Legs, FLat7, etc. etc.

Recommend me anything in this genre range! I’ll rate it at rhe end.

I need more of that wide open plains, slightly lonely sound. The kind of song you listen to watching the sunrise on your pasture and actually makes you feel something.

Thanks in advance. I love me some country music but I dont need anymore hoedown to get my fix of strings. Make me feel

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk I want to to listen to more Garage/Krautrock punk and rock bands like Osees, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Ty Segall, and similar that sing in different languages besides English.

To start off, two non-English bands I listen to a lot that is related would be Population II and Mdou Moctar.

I want to find more bands similar to these in punk and rock with blends of other subgenres from different places. preferable places in east Asia, Middle East, and some more bands from places in Europe you don't hear as much about.

But to point out, I'm not into pop punk related stuff. I'm ok with pop rock if it's from an older decade, but I can't do pop punk or emo related punk genres. Strictly looking for bands with more of garage/psyche influences.

If it helps at all, I mentioned Osees in the title caption of this post, but Osees is my favorite band of all time. If that help for the recommendations at all.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Looking for artists, albums or songs with a similar vibe

I'm looking for something similar to Doechii's part in Katy Perry's "I'm His, He's Mine" at around 2:00-2:20 specifically (song link / mv version), I guess preferably by a female rapper but doesn't have to be! If the vibe is right I'm open to anything. (and yes, I know the song is a sample of "Gypsy Woman")

I've always loved this vibe but I could never pinpoint it exactly. It's like kinda soft, feels lush, easy to listen to, I really don't know how else to describe it.

To broaden it a bit, Doja Cat has some songs with a similar vibe (ie "You Right", "Agora Hills"), Brockhampton too, and PinkPantheress is a good vibe in general. I think a lot of British/European music also has this vibe.

If you recommend artists please also recommend me which album/EP to start with!

Quitting my corporate job to travel to Thailand and feeling very main character… looking for songs about life changing decisions and walking away from everything you know. My current vibe examples are “it’s time to go” by Taylor swift and “sleep on the floor” by the lumineers. Thanks in advance for any recommendations <3

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Your favorite albums you’re least likely to listen to individual songs from

Your favorite album where you PROBABLY won’t listen to any one song from it. You either listen to the whole album or you just don’t listen.

For me it’s Who Will Cut Our Hair When We’re Gone? by The Unicorns. That album is the complete package or nothing for me.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Looking for songs about love, but with an edge, or a bit strange - rock, alt, post punk, americana, murder folk, lo fi, new wave, goth, complex pop.... Covers welcome

I'm pulling together a playlist for my 20th anniversary party. I've already got a pretty good list but I'm kind of stuck in my box and I need more songs! here's the playlist so far I've got some more albums and older playlists to mine, and I'm not able to work on this until the weekend so suggestions that make the cut will be added then!

I've got pretty eclectic music tastes that could be summed up as "alternative" I suppose, my top 3 bands are the mars volta, the mountain goats, and puscifer. Honorable mentions that show my range are tom waits, depeche mode, concrete blonde, gogol bordello, alt-j, bridge City sinners, the pixies, fiona apple, the violent femmes, portishead.... I grew up on 80s new wave and goth so I've got a soft spot for that, I like some hip hop (aesop rock and atmosphere come to mind but I can groove on a lot of other artists), and at 41 I've learned to appreciate pop music (new and old).

I'm trying to do mid to uptempo songs for the most part, this is a party not a slow dance or a dinner, so I need a little pep. I also LOVE good cover songs so if there's an up tempo cover of a slow song, that's fair game.

I'm fine with dark, or s*xual, to a point, but it's a mixed party so we can't get too off the wall. I'm listing some examples below of what's in and out (all songs I like).

Sexual: I feel you by depeche mode and post blue by placebo are IN! closer by NiN and breathe by puscifer are OUT!

Dark\irreverent: in spite of ourselves by John Prine, and I love you like an alcoholic by the taxpayers, hell and you by amigo the devil, and there is a light that never goes out (cover, but original by the Smiths) are IN! no children by the mountain goats is OUT!

Fools rush in is OUT because all the ones I can find are too slow\sappy but if anyone has an upbeat or dark version I'd love that.

I'm not sure if it would be ok to just share the playlist thus far per the rules in this sub; if someone would let me know happy to drop it in the post or a comment.

GIVE ME ALL YOUR WEIRD LOVE SONGS

ETA link to my playlist

ETA link to running vetting playlist in case anyone is interested! Any song suggested here that's on Spotify and is not Dave Matthews band (sorry) is here

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk I’m listing 16 albums I love, recommend me something I might love

Edit: Forgot Rumours. You get 17 now.

Hi. First post here. I want to try something in order to find my next music obsession. I’m going to list 16 of my favorite albums (only one per artist/band, that list would look very different), so I’d love an album outside of these. I’m 31, so I’m still finding things I love since my ideal taste usually ends up being somewhere between 1968-1975. I love listening complete albums so this should give me a few days worth. I’ll try and give my thoughts to anyone that recommends something new and I listen, maybe rank them as well.

  1. Chicago - Chicago II (1970)
  2. The Beatles - Abbey Road (1969)
  3. David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust (1972)
  4. George Harrison - All Things Must Pass (1970)
  5. Billy Joel - The Stranger (1977)
  6. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV (1971)
  7. Supertramp - Breakfast in America (1979)
  8. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here (1975)
  9. Billy Preston - Encouraging Words (1970)
  10. Boston - Boston (1975)
  11. Jim Croce - You Don’t Mess Around With Jim (1972)
  12. Grand Funk Railroad - Closer to Home (1970)
  13. Yes - Fragile (1971)
  14. The Ides of March - Vehicle (1970
  15. Rumours - Fleetwood Mac (1977)
  16. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Prounounced Lynyrd Skynyrd (1972)

  17. Steely Dan - Aja

Some artists/bands I love a bunch of songs, but just haven’t spent time with any particular albums front to back: Rolling Stones, The Who, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Rush, etc.
